Agree. It is pretty much my favorite game on the NES. I remember when my friend rented it back '88 when he first got his Nintendo. Always loved the music as well. I have beaten Rygar more times than I can remember and it never gets old. My record is a little over 3 hours from start to finish beating it. I love Rygar: Legendary Adventure on the PS2. I have yet to beat that one. lol
Agreed, i borrow it from my friend because he cant beat it. One Day i Just learned how to use graple and it change everything. Complete it so many times.
I loved this one as a kid on NES. Don’t think I ever beat it but always enjoyed playing it. The music is probably one of the most nostalgic scores for me. Brings me right back to lazy summer afternoons in grade school with nothing else to do or worry about. Good stuff. Haha 🍻
If anyone sees those random replies about hacking i stagram...It's a spam that advertises a resource that promises to let you hack anyone. But of course it hacks you instead and uses your account to continue to spam. (And not only spam but also scam etc).
Just have to say of all the UA-camrs I've seen you are the most pleasant to watch. You aren't loud and obnoxious. You don't have crap all over your screen or loud noises obstructing the gameplay. You're very skilled and knowledgeable about the games you play. You have a great attitude and come across as a genuinely nice guy. Someday if I ever get myself together you'll be the first I donate to. As for now all I can do is subscribe and support you that way. I would love to see you branch off into SNES games if you have the interest. Have a good one :)
I just started watching your Batman runs on twitch. I found your videos of ninja gaiden on youtube and I was hooked. Very relaxing and enjoyable. I'm looking forward to your Mario runs. Keep doing what you do.
Ah, Rygar. When I reached the final boss I always died. Was a kid back then, but finally after several tries I finally got him down. Was so happy with joy so I smacked my controller to the ground, well controller however survived, and 20 years plus after this event, it still works like a charm.
My buddy and I played this as a kid. Watching it now we could have never made it to the end. Thanks to you I saw the end of a game that tormented our youth. Next up would be Karnov...
Man, Rygar brings back such nice memories. One of the greatest adventure games on the NES and so many people don't even seem to know about it. And that MUSIC.
@@Peanutfiendsblog I recorded a bunch of NES music on my boombox i had way back in the 80s. Then (much) later on when i got internet, i recorded a bunch of game music from files, XM music and such. Huge lists of games, don't know if they're still up. I still have the cassettes i recorded the early stuff on, but the music has been recorded over. Still have all the other cassettes chock full of game tunes from the internet!
You whistled the tune the same time I started whistling lol! Man, Rygar. Lots of thrown controller sessions when I was a kiddo playing this game but I kept coming back. Great gameplay!
Well played Arcus. I like your style, when your show usually starts with resetting game and starting in the beginning, showing that if you want to become good player, you have to practice a lot.
Sometimes I got angry when I bought a NES game named after an arcade game and it wasn't the arcade game. But times like this, you get so much more than a simple side scrolling game like Rygar was.
@@matthewstowers1906 that last part in the floating castle with the main boss I would always die and then have to redo that whole floating castle part super frustrating but was able to finally finish it a couple times
This game takes me back. As a kid me and a friend stayed up all night trying to beat the first boss. Mashing the attackbutton having no clue what a strategy was to a point we got blisters. We managed to beat the boss with the only sense of accomplisment a pair of 11 year old could have.....screaming at the top of our lungs..
Beat it - definitely one of the hardest NES games to complete. Especially since using the pulley on the overhead map was so touchy, I always killed myself on accident it was beyond frustrating
He's like he-man but straight. Those crawling arm monsters I didnt see before, but the later levels seem more like they didnt try as much like the first few.
One of the first games I owned ❤. It was this kung fu, Mario, castlevainia 2 and tmnt arcade. There were a couple more nes games I owned but those were my faves We also rented a bunch like ghosts and goblins, jackal, rush n attack, Friday the 13th, jaws and much more
I remember there was a trick with the first boss where if you continue to bounce on top of its head and move him towards the far right corner, eventually he will start to turn, left and right continuously then get stuck. Then jump off and just attack till de dies.
I would start getting good at these games and them boom, had to take them back to the rental store.Dang being poor. Now at 47 I am old enough to afford to buy them,my hand/eye aint so great.
It's difficult too find chill streamers. All the Adderall children only about that HYPE. All yelling and going nuts when they get a PB or WR, or worse the rage when they fail. So far darbians my favorite runner but subbed for sure.
Use to switch 'R' in Rygar to 'D' and call the game Dryg'ar. 'Dryg' is a Swedish word most use to describe something ore someone who is boring and takes ages to get to the point.
This game highlights an underrated component to game...the soundtrack. I like letting these speedruns play in the background while I work. A title like Link is unbearable....not the uploaders fault. It's an hour of sound that just isn't crisp, and that's a speedrun. Rygar is a half hour game that you wish had been slow played.
this is the most underrated game on the NES imo. I rented it multiple times as a kid

It's definitely one of my favorite NES games!! And up until recently, I could never beat it without a game genie

One of favorites as a kid, this and wizards and apwarriors were underrated
Yes!!
Agreed!
This was a hidden gem on the NES. Game was a super fun cross between an action game and RPG.
Loved the music in this game
Totally agree. I used to record Rygar music on cassette when i was a kid and listen to it on my walkman when i mowed the grass.

Got this for my birthday in 1988. LOVED IT!! I can play it deathless now. But my god can you smash this sucker fast!! GREAT VIDEO!
Arcus there's a movie called "True Stories". The main character is David Burne. Great film!
Made my night...great upload and run!
Love your speed runs Arcus.

Just started watching these speed runs. Very entertaining. Love the mustache
I love the comments, taking the words right out of my mouth. The music!
7:33, My nightmare for a no death game.
usually had my issues figuring out where i had to go next lol
good game man
I got this game when I was a wee lad. Never understood the game as a kid.
This was one of the few NES games I actually put time aside as a child to beat. Pretty tough but nowhere near as bad as Legend of Zelda.
@@Uriseph TMNT and Rygar were my white whales.
This is a hard one to beat in general, let alone for a speed run. Kudos to you. Awesome game btw! Love the music!
That was a good huuahh!!
Yep. I like huuah too. 😂 😂 😂 😂
You're a good huah
In the Army it's spelled Hooah
this was my dad's favorite game he taught me lots ov swear words in english and Yiddish because ov it :)

While I rarely ever timed myself playing NES games, this was the first ever game I beat, and I did it at 8 years old, back in the same year.
Man that song... one of the most iconic in video games, ever!.... Dun-dun-dun da-da-da-da-da-dun da-da-dun da-da-da-dun!

The fact u only have 15 tho subs is mind boggling... U rule my man, Klunk!
I regret not playing this back in the day looks like a better zelda 2
I loved this game back in the day
Great work. Music in this game is great.
Was really wondering if you had done this game. Was always a favorite as a kid. Didn’t beat it until I was 17 lol. 🕯
I am the 10.000th subscriber. Congratulations Arcus!
Great game, underrated. My buddy had it, we could never beat it. I borrowed it one weekend and beat it. He was so pissed!
When people talk about metroidvanias people don't talk about NES Rygar often enough.

Blaster master?
Awesome game!
So refreshing to see the high framerate.
Enemies look so weird in this game.
I think that was the appeal as a kid for me. The enemies were really creepy. Especially that flying lizards thing that drops the egg-things.
About "hours to find it", when I was little, I spend days and failed to find it.
wow that was close at the end!
omg that first boss takes some time.
That game broke many controllers
Non speedruns will grind for a while to build up strength before fighting him.
I came here for the clunk..

Watch the time markers on the left- a clunk is when he finishes the current leg and starts the timer on the next leg.
Ugh! This flippin game. No saves or passwords. Left my Nintendo a burnin' back in '90 when i was 10.

Wow you had a little trouble in rygar but in ninja gaiden you breezed thru 😳 but still awesome gameplay!
Sometimes ya see stuff

The music from this one to something like Contra, Megaman 2, or even Batman is quite staggering...in a bad way.
