Dude, I just love having these grinds on in the background. Even if my eyes aren't on it, I hear good game tunes and "mash mash mash", "clunk". It's perfect.
The castlevania series had some of the best 8bit soundtracks lol especially after growing up with an Atari 2600. Going from beeps and boops to this was mind blowing in the mid 80’s.
Wasn't it? The NES music fucking rocked, and still does. Even my mother remembers a bunch of these songs, like Zelda and Dr. Mario, and she never played.
Although it may not be popular to say, this is one of my all-time favorite "Castlevania" games, and while I don't intend on speedrunning the game anytime soon, I'll definitely be putting some of these strategies to good use courtesy of learning them from the Bob Ross of video games.
Why does it have such a bad reputation? Expanding from CV1's linear castle crawl to an open-world RPG for the sequel was genius, especially with the day/night cycle making enemies harder, and the story of Simon breaking his curse. I was actually disappointed when the series went BACK to linear castle crawling after this. Is it just because of the bad translations making clues hard to decipher? It's not like using a guide to beat a game was uncommon at the time.
@@mxx720 I think it mainly just became popular to crap on the game due to other people crapping on it, similar to Zelda 2. It does have a lot of issues, no denying that, but I still enjoy it to this day. Albeit while using a guide.
I loved this game and it was the one that got me into Castlevania. It was more like an action RPG than an arcade game such as the first Castlevania. I loved that aspect of it and it made Symphony of the Night so nice i still play it to this day many years later.
"It's a lot easier when you know where to go." You can say that again, sir! The days of having no guidance outside of MAYBE a Nintendo Power and friend's notes are long gone!
One of the first games I bought myself for me. This was exactly what I wanted at the time - a waste world of unknown, that didn't even have a map, or clues. This was before RPGs became common.
This is my favorite game for NES I can recount endless game overs and password screens, figuring out to kneel with the red crystal etc took weeks of dedication. To see this game bested in 40 minutes is f*cking mind blowing. My hats off to you Arcus!
I know of a secret to one of the Castlevania games from when I was a kid, I do NOT remember which game specifically it was, but if I remember correctly; in 1 of the games there is a secret path to the final boss of the game. Not sure if this is something the community knows about or not, but I have NEVER heard or read ANYWHERE else about this. Maybe this is well known, maybe it isn't, maybe it will change speedruns in the game (once it is found to be which game it is). Now, at the very start of the game, if you just go left or right (you much go the same direction the entire time without going the opposite direction) so many times, it will take you directly to the final boss of the game. I am almost positive this was a secret path to the final boss of 1 of the games. And I feel I remember it being 7 times (going 7 screens over in the same direction without going back the opposite direction). There is a slight chance it could have been for another game I played, but I am almost positive it is for Castlevania. Correct me if I am wrong. Thanks all.
Here for the music! This game gave me hell when I was a kid. But the memories of me & my older brother playing this game every night to beat it are awesome!
We already know that Arcus is the best Ninja Gaiden speedrunner, but I think that he also wants to go down as the greatest all around NES speedrunner of all time!
This game has the BEST music on the NES. If they had better translations (useful hints) and some sort of map system, this game would be considered one of the all time greats
Ridiculous number of enemies. I only ever played the first Castlevania game, and although that was a long time ago, I don’t think it was that littered.
lol if arcus takes 40 mins to beat this game it would prolly take me 10 hours to beat it if i could at all never played any castlevanias games on NES as a kid and as an adult its on my top 10 for need to buy asap lol love the video!
Gary Hall I haven’t played Castlevania since 1988 and that was the original, I thought for sure those were replenishing health back then! Wow! Wall Meat is so rare, that’s crazy!
Hi brother. I love NES games. Love watching you play. I have some questions on speed running I would like to start playing around with it. So some questions. But one is how do I get that same timer you have while your playing. And if there is somewhere better to message you let me know
Damn it, the NES game selection the occasional bam clunk da sleepy cat ... alright I'll subscribe geez. You're being too easy to put on my computer in the background.

@Christine Felice ....wtf are you talking about?
I do the same thing. It's relaxing.
I put on arcus clips to fall asleep, so relaxing
That was a good clunk!

agreed!
Yeah. This series and Mega Man for sure.
@@wheresatari668 Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Legend of Zelda, Megan Man and Final Fantasy had great soundtracks.
Absolutely brother best music, until metal of honor came out

You speed run with a cat blissfully napping in your lap? respect++
When you said dont forget the stake, all I could think of was, "that'd be a huge missed-stake."
Lmao
You know what Dracula hides pork chops in his castle?
Because he's afraid of steaks (stakes)
@@dickmarx1298 haha. Very nice.
They stakes were high right there.

Takes so much dedication to be a speed runner. I definitely don't have the patience for it, but do e joy watching others do it, especially Arcus
I love the day and night transition in this game!

This game was so cryptic back In The day this was a Nintendo power game I had the power
Yeah, we've all seen the AVGN episode.

i feel like "the last clonk" will be arcus' epitaph on his grave many long years from now 😂😂
Castlevania is my best game ever. I´ve been playing this game since my teenanger. Rock On Arcus!!
Normal games: Heart is the icon of life.
Castlevania: Heart is my icon of AMMO.
Even more confusing that it's currency in Simon's Quest, and ammo in the others.
Castlevania 2: hearts are money

I don't usually watch streamers or speedruners but I enjoy your way of being, comments and general attitude. Subscribed
Not sure how you don’t win Man of the Year every single year.
Another great classic game that Arcus makes it look easy. Keep up the good work. Enjoy watching your uploads every Friday night
You training for a 10 game run or something? Awesome seeing you play such diverse games with respectable pb's. Love watchin ya bro.

Same. Took me and my bro awhile to beat it. But we eventually figured it out. Then we had fun looking at the strategy guide to see what we missed.

Loved this Metroid-style Castlevania game for Nintendo. Aannnd clunk.
2:08 binding of isaac easter egg confirmed . What a horrible night to have a curse.
I really really dig the selection that arcus runs.
Love the videos Arcus.... Keep them going please...
One of five games I beat on the NES. Wizards and Warriors, Castlevania II, Tiger Heli, Gradius, and Contra 👍
You're phenomenal!! 😎👍
Even when watching, that night cycle seems to last twice as long as day.
Always happy to see you upload!

27:30 is there a way to find that out organically in the game or did you just have to buy the guide?
My favorite game and OST as a kid.
This guy's calm pleasant demeanor is great.
Wouldn't surprise me to find out he is a Christian.
If doing a ‘speed run,’ I certainly wouldn’t be that calm unless I could do it in my sleep.
Pretty awesome speed run, cowboy!
What about a Megaman 2 speed run, in your very next UA-cam video? Thanks a lot.
Megaman 2! Please, yes! That would be awesome!
A few misplays but many more great moves! Love your content and GG!
Arcus, could you have grabbed the oak stake in the heart mansion and saved time getting it in the rib mansion?
Great work sir! Will a speedrun of Castlevania 3 Dracula's Curse be in the near future ?
Clunk GG
Arcus number one🍎🍏🐛
A king of kings Arcus. 🤴 💜 🤯

Ahh yes, this campfire will do beautifully while the mind idles on mundane Wordpress admin tasks. 40 mins of less painful working, here we go!
Liked my own comment with my work Google account, real renegade... Ok ok work work
after i saw ur vieeo today i starting up emudeck and play... thx for thre reminder😂 growing up with this games... love it😊
Does holy water kill the Grim Reaper with just one hit or was that some kind of exploit?
Its a crit hit glitch. If you lure him into a certain area it only takes one hit. It's hard to pull off for casual gamers like myself.
Even for Arcus this game is not easy... Crazy
Thanks for this. I’ve never seen it all the way through. As a kid I had no idea what to do. I don’t think most of us knew. lol
Nice work man.
I still remember the look on my dad's face when he saw that tornado for the first time.
Arcus you are my hero
I don't watch twitch but I still enjoy your vids Arcus. I like how calm you are much like myself.
One of my favorite games. Took me 20 years to finally beat it lol. Definitely had to use a guide though 😂
Love this game but I never knew about these glitches.

As opposed to the good nights to have a curse...
What do the Hearst do? I could have sworn they regenerated health in the original.

Even at 38 years old I still have no fucking clue what is going on in this game lol. I just remembered playing this when I was younger.
they should make Papa Johns Garlic Sauce a weapon on here.
I used to work at one. They’d be either like holy water or a screen crush 😂😂😂😂
I like to dip my crust in that garlic sauce.
What’s the origin of “clunk” I just started watching the channel recently.
Just started too, I saw a video where he says it’s the sound his pedal makes when he’s changing the time clock for each level.
Most people play on the famicon when going for highscore but nes when speedrunning?
What a horrible night to have a curse..so clunk it out of existence!!
WHAT A HORRIBLE NIGHT TO HAVE A CURSE
