When the Puff Puff was first unveiled at the biannual aerospace trade show it was met with howls of derision. Surely this is some kind of joke? No serious space jocky would be seen dead in that thing. Never mind a glove box it hasn't even got an ash tray!
Despite the disastrous launch the Puff Puff has gained a loyal following throughout the Kerbal system. Not that he'll ever admit it but even Jeb has been known to take one for the occasional blat around the rock formations on Pol. The beauty of the design is its rugged simplicity. There's no complicated reaction wheels to shear off, no RTGs to get irradiated by, no batteries to wear out, no circuit boards to fail, no software bugs to patch and no solar panels to forget to clean. All you have is a fuel tank, some piping (which may or may not have come from the plumbing shop down the road), valves and thrusters. There really is nothing to go wrong on this design which has made it especially well suited for bobbing round the frigid moons of the outer worlds. It also functions extremely well on Gilly where most landers shoot into orbit if you so much as breath on the throttle! As of 1996 it holds the Guinness World Record for the smallest lander known to Kerbal kind.
Hello lovely people! Creating a totally analogue lander is something that's been in the back of my mind for a while. By analogue I mean creating a lander that has no electronics whatsoever; no reaction wheels, no batteries, no solar panels and no lights. Instead the craft would use RCS exclusively for thrust and manoeuvring. Initial attempts to create this design were pretty dismal and offered no advantage whatsoever over LF/LOX designs. It was only when tried to make the design as small as physically possible did it start to come together. As you can see this thing is absolutely minute. Even if I wanted to fit a reaction wheel, battery and solar panel I couldn't! While it's not going to break any performance records the Puff Puff is an absolute hoot to fly with either a keyboard or joystick. Each thruster can also be tweaked independently allowing you to tailor the handling to your liking. While it can be used from orbit in some cases the design really shines when paired with a larger lander or mothership. This allows you to land the big ship somewhere safe and flat and then use your Puff Puffs to explore the more challenging terrain.
The design comes in two variants; the standard model with x2 thrusters per axis and the more X-model which features x4 thrusters per axis. The X-model is more compact and looks a bit cooler but it'll burn through the propellent a lot faster if you throw it around too much!
Please have a quick read of the notes before flying and I hope you enjoy the designs.
Also making its debut is the Thundersley Invacar which was built to do one thing and one thing only; go very fast along the Minmus Ice flats. While lacking the directional thrust of its bigger brother the Invacar can still motor along at a respectable 150m/s, and maintain this speed while using mere drops of monopropellent. The onboard lights can be used be enabling infinite electricity in the cheat menu as the craft is too small to fit a solar panel/battery!
For our soundtrack this week we have song that I've featured before albeit in cover form. Even then I was torn between using the original version of Chasseur D'ivoire by Alain Chamfort or the Polo & Pan rendition. In the end I went with Polo & Pan but I still loved the original and felt that it should get its moment to shine one day. I don't own the rights to this recording this is just fan love pure and simple.

I will never get bored of CCL's little videos. Besides his skill and determination in KSP ship design and control, his editing and choice in music are :chefs kiss:
:)
Wow, this really has that feel when you're a kid and you've just got your first BMX so you can go with your friends and do some stunts and have fun. Of course, this is more Kerbal way of that analogy.
don't think i've ever seen a like-to-watch ratio so high before. Cupcake continues to deliver gold
Yet another lovely escapade from you, Cupcake! Masterful camerawork and piloting - the dual piloting over Pol was so clean, and the shot approaching Gilly was mesmeric. To top it all off you've introduced me to even more charming music :)
Thankyou kind sir! It's a modest effort compared to the incredible scales you work at but I'm glad you enjoyed it all the same. Looking forward to your next video as always. 😎
A work of art, as always!
Wow, thank you!
The sneeze in the intro was adorable.
The skill that goes into not just flying but building these ships is mind-boggling.
Loved it! And the ULTRA CUTE sneeze in the beginning of the video is perfect!
Thanks Dude! Glad you enjoyed it. 😁
That sideways shot on Pol is truly fascinating.
Man, after spending the last couple of days looking for new cinematics, one of the best in the game uploads another masterpiece
More then happy to oblige! 😁
Solar Nations?
Amazing designs on the vehicles! The launch pads were really cool!
Absolutely inspirational, the way Jool and Eve sit over the horizons makes it feel like a watchful eye, absolutely beautiful, hopefully we can reach this level of work some day.
I'm sure you will. 🙂
Who needs KSP2 when we have KSP CL : ) What a Beautiful Journey. Magnifique!
What a cute little RCS-transport-lander-thingy :3
Your videos are like poems of old.
A thing of beauty is a joy for ever:
Its loveliness increases; it will never
Pass into nothingness; but still will keep
A bower quiet for us, and a sleep
Full of sweet dreams, and health, and quiet breathing.
What a beautiful piece. 🥰
I love the little universe you've been creating through these videos.
Still waiting to see you in the end credits of the next big science fiction classic 😊 beautiful as always!!!

You could always DL it!! 🙃
I don't know if you made those RCS pods specifically for the new plumes you started using this video, but they work really well together. Such a deceptively simple and beautiful design.
Thanks!
Alain Chamfort is a solid choice :)
Very relaxing and very beautiful, nicely done. I hope it was enjoyable to make.

The graphics are absolutely phenomenal! What mods do you use for that? :O
Scatterer, EVE, Waterfall + grading in post production.
Awesome
It amazes me how beautiful KSP can look with mods. My games visuals are all stock. Can you please share your modlist with me cupcake? And how did you Pilot multiple crafts at once?! Would really love to know.
Scatterer, Waterfall, EVE, Sci-Fi Visual Enhancements - Hope this helps!
@@CupcakesLanders thx
BTW I used Burn Together to control multiple vessels.
What a well-made video!
Are the visuals the Sci-Fi visuals, right?
If you're on 1.12.2, how did you manage to install it?
It's been updated for the latest version.
cupcake is french ? cocorico ?
Man how do you get these camera angles! It’s insane the amount of time must go into it!
It does take a long time. Fortunately I had Covid at the time so it gave me something to do while I was isolating! 🤒
