    Thank you for watching! I'll be doing reading vlogs and ARC reviews. I'm trying not to watch other's channels to keep myself spoiler free, but would you like to see more local anime/manga shops? I love to read in cafes/libraries and read in different New England coastal towns if you'd like to come along let me know!

      Good. Try as hard as you can to not catch spoilers. Because it's not easy in case of one piece
      Don't react to any one piece content even if people ask you, unless a trustworthy friend of yours approves that it is spoiler free

      Ah, coastal New England is such a nice vibe, reading somewhere in a calm seaside town sounds like peak relaxation. I know I said I recognized some of your nearby references, I'm about an hour from the coast, which feels short enough that it's definitely doable but long enough that it's a deliberate trip. I enjoy photography but it gradually fell off my radar in recent years due to time constraints, if I was closer to the sea I'd have a lot more inspiration to pick it back up.

    Started watching this in 2015 and no-one is joking when they say this world is filled with layers of mystery and foreshadowing. There are countless things that you will miss on the first watch/read-through.
    I've already watched it twice and read the manga once and you will find details that connect hundreds of chapters apart. One throwaway line can turn into the biggest events/info in the story.
    Enjoy the story, take your time. That's the best experience.

    The anime from the first episode shows why you need to watch it. Luffys Voice Actor is the MVP. She brings him to life that you just don't get reading the Manga. That being said. If you're going to read the Manga, I recommend you get a mod to help you watch key moments from the manga in the anime. They really know how to take it up a notch.

    • @KateMaccio
      @KateMaccio  3 місяці тому +21

      Thank you! It was recommended to incorporate the anime in for impact while reading and I really like that idea. I was thinking if I read 2-3 volumes at a time I could ask what everyone would like to see or have a poll :)

    • @ActionRea
      @ActionRea 3 місяці тому +6

      @@KateMaccio Yeah, definitely do a poll or something! In my opinion, the music and the *voice acting* in the anime--my goodness.. It's so good. Characters like Luffy have so much personality added solely because of his voice actor. And emotional scenes, like Nami's, are best in the anime. And they added a little part that wasn't even in the manga, but made the scene better.

    so this video is a wonderful teaser into the wider world of one piece. and yes, you are right, it is completely insane that one dude could think up all of this massive world of one piece, and yet, he somehow did. he is a big inspiration to me. the music in this video was not from the anime, but dont be fooled, the one piece anime has a BANGER soundtrack all on its own. the visuals are an amalgamation of the anime itself and several one piece movies, which is why the styles were so different in different clips, and of course the style of animation has also changed over the 25 years of production, obviously. i really like how this video shows how varied the places the strawhats visit are, and generally where people live. to the point that you see things beyond the clouds and under the sea. its gonna be a great adventure, i cant wait to see you experience it!

    The manga is the way to go 💯🔥 Especially in the earlier arcs because the anime left out a little bit more from the story, and not to mention the censorship of the earlier episodes (ehem, Sanji's flashback). Back in the early 2000s, I was in my small town library and spotted that they FINALLY had a tiny manga section!! I was getting super into anime at that point but it was still super niche, people only knew Sailor Moon or Pokemon or DragonBall Z and even then most people didn't know the word 'anime'. The manga the library had was One Piece. I immediately check out a volume and took it home. It was in Japanese. Could I read it or anything? NOPE hahaha. I just stared at it for a bit like "yep... this is a manga!!!" But it still made me happy and excited to have an actual manga volume at my library! Fast forward and now anime is everywhere, and I barely started watching/getting into One Piece last year. I wish I had sooner but it's never too late!! It's been such a fun ride!!

    I think one of my favorite parts about One Piece is a "global ruleset" is established of how the entire world works, but unlike other stories, every island you travel to has a unique set of culture, laws, creatures, exports, and history to it which I think is one of the reasons it never gets boring. It's like starting an entirely new series every time a new arc starts.
    And to your point, yes, it is INSANE that one man came up with all these different worlds that he somehow managed to intertwine so seamlessly. Excited for your journey!

    This is like a “love latter” to the fandom by a fan.
    Congratulation, for recognizing 2 frames of Baratie and Arlong Park, among these location rundown of straight 8 minute! Haha! Must've felt, finally something familiar!
    It's also interesting that you instantly shouted “maya inspiration” over a certain scene supposedly due to your keen attention of details over historical context (maybe as a book reader). I also think EXACTLY the same when I see that scene, but never saw anybody calling it out, you're the first!
    This video is heavy spoiler and zero spoiler at the same time. This is like the best teaser just about one “category” of One Piece. I hoped, Live Action would've explored like this even with unrealistic CGI, instead of being a house drama. Will be interesting what they do next season, because things'll escalate tripple times.
    The legendary narrator you heard was played by legendary Ian McShane, thanks to his grandson, a worldwide secret agent (fan) deployed by Eiichiro Oda. ✌

    Welcome aboard! I think that video does a great job at showcasing the scope of this world without showing off TOO much. It's just a fantastic fantasy world where anything is possible. The author of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda, has called One Piece his life's work; not just because he's been publishing this series since 1997 but because he wanted to put in everything he loves into this series. He loves history, he loves movies, and he loves goofy monsters and characters. He really wears his inspirations on his sleeves at times and that's resulted in a world that is just SO densely packed.
    With that said, I think the series does a good job of slowing expanding the world as we go and won't frontload too much. I'm looking forward to your vlogs and reviews of each arc. Don't feel like you need to rush to catch up either and feel free to enjoy it at your own pace!

    Thanks for showing the store you had previously mentioned, it looks amazing! Over the years I've found that bookstores will stock long-running titles like manga but usually only have the first/last handful on the shelf. The interesting part about the story having 1000+ chapters/episodes is that once they start it, most ppl say or wish that the story never ends and they can read about this crew for the rest of their lives and it might be too short instead of too long. Which puts into perspective what type of world and characters Eiichiro Oda managed to create.

    Welcome freakin aboard and to the crew, a once in a lifetime generational event that we all get to be apart of and share across the globe.
    I see the dune books behind you so I know you're somebody who appreciates narrative payoffs and things tied together woven in ways throughout years within the story that just kinda blow your mind.
    I agree with all those who convinced you to read the manga, it's how I caught up myself, and then I just went back to watch some of the moments I wanted to see animated. Now each week I am waiting on the edge of my chair for both a manga chapter online and anime episode, this is for the last almost decade. During the last 5-6 years the animation has been so good I would actually recommend watching it, which is around the 800ish episode mark. I know big number lol one step at a time though as they say, I never thought I'd get here either back when I started.
    Oda really knows how to craft a story, the world feels so spectacular because the entire 'plot' of one piece is adventuring within it and discovering all its secrets, mysteries, and the many many islands with their own uniqueness and cultures. It's a once in a lifetime event to be readin one piece.
    Funny side tangent: Flashback 10 years ago I was a one piece hater, refused to watch "that many episodes" then it was only at around 600 episodes lol. I had seen and read 1000s of webtoons, mangas, and the like so it was my biggest and final one to check off. I expected to just gather ammo for why hunter x hunter or bleach was clearly better, still love both those series. But man. I ate my words and continue to eat them, not because all these other series aren't good, rather the opposite, they are, it's just that is how good oda is.

      Thank you so much! I have been saying that this series feels like what I've always been looking for. A few years ago I worked in a bookstore and the high school kids who worked with me were so excited to help get me into manga and anime but they argued between themselves if I should read the manga or watch the anime 😂. So I ended up reading Assassination Classroom and Mob Psycho.
      My brother would not stop asking me to watch the live action and I'm glad he was so persistent. It was such a great way to get a taste of the world and characters. I couldn't stop thinking about the world and I thought the best way to appreciate Oda's work would be to read the manga first.
      I'm someone who does not get sick of something I love so I will definitely be watching some of the anime. I love the suggestion to incorporate in certain scenes or episodes into my journey. I'm also very excited for the new anime!

    The anime is priceless because of the Japanese voice actors performances and the music. I hum “overtaken” even when I just need to just go downstairs for another cup of coffee. It makes every moment of my mundane life that much more epic.
    Even if not now…. Probably start with the new up and coming “The ONE PIECE” and then hopefully you can soft transition into the anime because you are hooked.
    I will keep checking in on your channel to see what you thought of the anime’s take on coco village leading up to the Arlong park’s “of course I will!!” And all the peak moments after that…. I really want to see your Enis Lobby reaction.

    As both an avid reader and lover of animation/live action material, I find that while the anime has some filler and censorship here in there, it truly shines in key moments, more than the manga. Imho they translate better in animated form bc you have several key elements coming together to build those scenes, those climaxes, besides the base illustration and dialogue: voice acting, music, direction, rhythm (how tension is created and released). In the manga maybe it's a few panels, but the anime has a concentrated build-up and release that's worth experiencing first thing, before the manga.
    I feel like the manga is better at delivering the overall story in a more concise manner without the limits of pushing for screentime and the censorship, but the anime is better at delivering emotion because unlike a book, manga does illustrate the scene so it's less a game of imagination on your part, so at that point, why not go the extra mile and enjoy it animated with amazing voice acting, soundtrack and direction? So personally I tend to enjoy the anime more - nothing on Oda, mind you, he's an amazing mind. I just prefer the multi-sensorial experience the anime gives.

    I'll just say that you're in for a long and wonderful ride while reading One Piece. You'll feel joy and sadnes, happiness and anger, mystery and discovery, like no other, and it'll all be worth the time you'll find yourself inmerssed in the pages you'll be reading.
    There's a reason why One Piece is the national series for Japan, much as The Simpsons were for USA in the 90s and early 2000's, and why it's about to become the most sold "comic" of all time, it's about to beat Superman in total Lifetime sales, while only being 1/4th as old.
    Oda's way of storytelling and worldbuilding are top notch and what he's managed to create, is truly excepcional, and we One Piec fans are dreading the day it ends.
    Then again, today marks 5 years since Oda said One Piece would end in 5 years, and here we are, the end closing in, but nowhere near yet XD

    This is the best fantasy world and story easily this generation. I truly mean that. Oda created a masterpiece. Toei animations kind of paced the hell out of the anime but the story itself is the most gorgeous and thought provoking story that covers the toughest and most heart warming topics. I could not imagine life without this show it really changed my life. Having hundreds of episodes sounds like the best bad news I've ever heard.
    Pacing can be bad for the anime. There's a lot of goofy stuff. It's really an entire chore to get into the story, but other than that, it's the best content you'll experience. And if that's not true for you, that's a shame because it's true for me.

  • @ROFLWAFFLELAWL4
    @ROFLWAFFLELAWL4 3 місяці тому

    Manga is definitely how I would get into it. You can read through the chapters/panels much quicker than the shows pacing. The anime is just as great with the VA's doing a phenomenal job as well as the music adding so much to each moment but to me the anime was always something I considered as a bonus, a treat for the fans. Expanding a little bit more, adding a few extra scenes or dialogue, let's you have more time with the Straw-hat crew.
    But the way Oda uses the manga panels, how he uses each page to add to the moment. It's something that you don't get to experience with the anime that I think is always worth checking out.
    If nothing else I would check out the movies, mostly to add a voice to the characters. They have a few 'Episode Of-' movies that are a compacted recap of significant events in each story arc. There are also a few movies that are absolutely amazing to watch (Strong World, Z, Gold, Stampede, Red particularly and maybe in that order) that are somewhat canon (sort of, not really) though outside of the 'Episode Of-' movies you would need to be a fair bit into the manga before watching the ones I listed.
    Either way hope you enjoy the series. The characters, locations, story telling, it's all just so well crafted.

It's literally the moving version of the manga with voice actors and emotion with the added world building and lore that Oda couldn't edit back into the already drawn manga chapters. I promised watching the anime first before reading the manga is much better. I wish I could have done that before for the early chapters. I was up to date with the weekly manga release as well as the anime but then I tried halting the manga and waiting for fot the anime to finished an Arc. It was the best decision ever. I've never felt emotional watching any show like One piece without knowing whats going to happen. It's like a roller coaster of emotions. Honestly, because if you read the manga first it will never be the same watching the anime first. I envy first time people like you watching one piece. I really wish I could have watch the anime first before knowing anything from the manga. there's a few episodes before But now new people that dwelves into one piece have the luxury of more than 1000 episode they can start watching. And that's the best thing you can do I promise. I'm literally sobbing at the crucial points of the story it's just not once but many times. I really recommend watching the anime first. Pleaseeee I really want you to enjoy the one piece story. ❤️ The anime is nothing like the Live action at all. Compared to it with the story telling, the live action was acceptable compared to the Anime. I honestly showed every emotion while watching the whole of One Piece and now it's nearing the end of the story. Please watch the anime first. I promise it's the best thing ever. ❤

    first of all i recommend the manga (there is a colored version until chapter 1070+, if you prefer colored media), but if you every want to see the anime check out one pace (fans made a cut version of the original), or wait for the ramake that will cover the first 1k episodes in 300 i think.
    Now about the world , you see the world through the straw hat crew prespective, but often there are different prespectives introduced from people with different politics. Also the world is alive it does not revovle around the protagonist, it is moving while the crew is on its adveture and different events happen around the world.

      I love her book channel, I've followed her a long time but I avoided the OP stuff because I knew I'd either read or watch at some point!
