00:12 bottom right corner pink design and 00:40 right side green design I made around 6 months ago as part of a series using my MetroGrunge vector kit lol come check my channel if you wanna see how i made them
I remember reeeeally disliking this as a kid. it always had to be all over pencil cases, folders, messenger bags, shirts, toys... all that would have been better without it in my child mind! Loved Frutiger Aero, but I don't think I noticed it as much as this one.
It was kind of patronising... oldies telling kids "we're cool look at the funky graphics, this will make you want to learn", maybe it was aimed at the sad parents buying it - thinking it was cool?
sony ericsson phones in the last 2010s has a lot of frutiger metro design in their advertisements and also their wallpapers. The paint splat combining with speaker artwork fits pretty well on walkman phones back in the day.
Oh yeah... this aesthetic kinda killed the Windows phone didn't it? MS really hyped up the UX - google took it to the next level with the Material design system, a whole new level.of flatness. Great video mate, I remember those text books!
I used to watch public television (PBS kids America) when I was a kid (around 2008 to the mid to late 2010s) there were a lot of shows back then that used that style. Even books from bookfairs back in the day
Correct me if I'm wrong but I've always associated the aesthetic of Gorillaz Demon Days era with Fruitiger Metro, with the Dare music video being this aesthetic. Funnily enough I remember re-listening to them in 2017 which is when you mention the aesthetic seemed to die, this is also a few years I stopped playing on the Wii (Just Dance) which I think has a lot of Fruitiger Aero and Metro in one design.
I always love when i come across unique UI full of character, its a shame we seem to see more and more of this 'optimised for efficiency' type of design. Awesome vid!
i kinda prefer frutiger metro over aero. the reason for that is simply the idea behind it. aero was desinged around teaching non tech aff people whats what, luring them in. the ones, that werent interest in it 5 years prior. but the ones company wanted as costumers for money. but "welcoming" lead to a change in internet culture and society. frutiger aero, to me, marks the point of "the internet for everyone" rathen the "the internet for the ones that are interested". its no reason to hate the design because of that, i still find it nice to look at, but the thing that lasted for me with this design, is what i wrote above, everything else faded away. maybe its due to my age, as someone born in 85, i grew up with memphis and sorts
I notice in these type of videos that discuss these trends, people never call it for what it is. It’s graphic design. Specifically graphic design trends.
As someone who lived through all this and never liked it, I'm glad it's gone. Deff more of a fan of 80s and 90s aesthetics. That being said. I hate the minimalist designs companies are going with today. Everything is drab and bland. My example is all the fast food chains. Look no further than your local McDonalds and Burger King to see what I mean.

Same here
It has ugly primitive repetitiveness to it.
My exact thoughts. Thank you.

Frutiger metro probably is the second best aesthetic in the 2000s - 2010s

All of my myspace layouts in 2008 were frutiger metro themed. Takes me back to a simpler time.

Frutiger Metro is basically the year 2010
2010 was a year that was good but boring
@@belstar1128 culturally insignificant but life was great back then
ah yes the bargain bin MP3 player package design art style
First thing that comes to mind is the PBS show the electric company
Flat Metro is my fav
So if this design didn’t exist we could have had a more beautiful future in designing and maybe another bless wall paper?
