      Thanks for posting that. I have a Big Beemer and while I respect the"Respect ethos" and understand that there are those that are regimented not only for 'respect' but for safety and order. But is it really fair to slow up a rider trying to 'get on it'?
      I think you're doing the right thing, just as I will gladly give up my right of way so a club ride isn't broken up or interfered with. We should all be able to 'enjoy the day', right?

    Generally a good idea to use hand signals to alert the last person in the group you are looking to pass. If not for etiquette then for safety. If riding in a group they generally have a destination in mind and you may be in the middle of a pass when the group is coming up on a turn they need to take to get where they are going. I saw a really bad wreck a few years back from this. The group was trying to warn the people in front of them as well as the guy passing to stop. Guy was passing on a somewhat blind left hand curve. There was an intersection just past the curve where the group was making a left turn. It didn't end well.

    Reminds me of the joke I never tried on the local Outlaws who used to come in to my place of employment. Their clubhouse was just down the road, and they had a sign out front that said "No guns, drugs, or weapons allowed" (or something to that effect). I always wanted to ask:
    "I saw your sign... so what makes y'all Outlaws? You ride slow in the fast lane or something?" : )
    Never got up the nerve...

    • @mikeb8342
      @mikeb8342 2 роки тому +23

      I'm sure the sign was "window dressing" to give it a "club" appearance rather than the gang they likely are. I have no problem with a group of like-minded riders watching each others backs.... but a group that'll assault you and then use their numbers to "discourage" resistance are simply a group of thugs. That's a line they can't cross with me. Grown men getting my daughter hooked on drugs and/or pimping her out.... their "club" isn't going to protect them. Not say'n, just say'n.

    • @craigfinnegan8534
      @craigfinnegan8534 2 роки тому +20

      That sign was likely a scarecrow to keep law enforcement away, maybe to reassure locals also (I've found ordinary citizen's paranoia to be a serious danger in it's own right). In short, it might have meant they were smarter than the average biker gang, not softer. Your "slow-lane" quip would have been a funny thing to ask, just not worth any bad blood.

    • @lordofthewoods
      @lordofthewoods 2 роки тому +6

      @@craigfinnegan8534 Yep... that's what I figured. I PROBABLY could have pulled off the joke, but not worth having to shoot somebody over. I think Red Green said "Biker gangs are not known for their sense of humor" : )
      I worked in the delivery department of a major home improvement store with a Cajun ASS-kicker (last name "Persilver", just to prove it)... we were both drivers. (this was during a "condo-boom" that had delivery workers doing five 14-hour days a week) Anyone looked at him the wrong way or spoke to him in the wrong tone, he'd snatch his fist back and say "Punk-ass BITCH, I'll BUST you in the mouth!" You had TWO choices: Back down, or get your ASS kicked! He was about an inch shorter than me (I'm 5'8"), but his arms were as big as my legs.
      If I understood correctly, he had been to prison for attempted murder because he got into a fight with his ex father-in-law, and broke BOTH of his legs! And it wouldn't surprise me if it was HAND-TO-HAND : )
      I had a Class A license, and he had a Class B. One day, we were all in the back, and he was trying to maneuver an order picker into the gap between two rows of racks. He bumped lightly into one of the racks, and I looked at the other guys, cocked my head towards "G", and said "Class B license." "G" replied, "Man, that's cold" : )
      I enjoyed working with him, never had a problem with him (PLENTY of others got on his bad side!), AND I could get away jerking his chain a little.
      Once, our Operations Manager (T.J., probably six-feet tall & looking like a star college quarterback but totally chill) was dealing with some customers that wanted an update on their delivery time, so T.J. called "G" on speakerphone.
      "G" responded "Man, I'm doing the best I can. How about I park this bitch beside the ROAD, and YOU can come drive this muthafucka!" : )
      T.J. just held out the phone towards the customers, as if to say "OK, did you hear that?" : )
      But one day I came in, and, when I saw the delivery manager, he looked like he'd seen a ghost, so I asked him what was wrong. He said "G" just threatened to kill everybody in the back (i.e., delivery area).
      I asked what they were going to do about it, and was told they were going to "send him home for the day". Putting on my lawyer hat, I said that he HAD to be let go after that... the liability if he was brought back then DID something would be astronomical. He did get let go, but I hated to see it.

    • @craigfinnegan8534
      @craigfinnegan8534 2 роки тому +3

      @@lordofthewoods Actually, I would consider that a happy ending. Nobody got hurt, except for some feelings. There's a good chance he was working his way up to quitting anyways, like in a romantic relationship where the partner who wants out starts provoking arguments over petty things. It's their way of giving notice. If he wasn't fired he might have taken it all the way until he was. What's scary these days is when an employee (or romantic partner) has reached the point where just parting ways isn't enough. Only revenge is.
      You were absolutely right about the liability. It reminds me of another story I just posted under, the retired police chief who shot a guy in a movie theater in an argument over the younger guy texting during the previews. At one point both the ex-cop and the victim's wife had come out to ask the manager to intervene, but the manager didn't bother. All he'd had to do was assign them new seats. Obviously it wasn't only the manager's fault, but look at how much could have been avoided for everyone, including a little girl who's now growing up without a father.
      You were also right to rib the guy a little once you'd felt out his personality and where you stood with him. I've found people like him don't want their asses kissed, they just don't like having to kiss anyone else's. They want respect, not submission. Ironically, submitting to people (kissing their ass) is as dehumanizing to the person submitted to as trying to make others submit is. Neither approaches really care about or respect the other person at all. It's just a fear reaction, even by the person demanding the submission.
      Persilver sounds a lot like a guy I once met ("Mergl" so you know I'm telling the truth!). Short, with arms like fat sledge hammers. Yet he spoke with a boyish lisp. Very friendly, very funny, and very racist. He'd done time (hard labor in Georgia) for killing a guy in a bar with his fists alone. The guy he killed had said something sexual about Mergl's little daughter, who he'd brought into the bar with him (a brilliant move in itself). I think the common denominator and main lesson to learn is that those types are their own worst enemies, even while being convinced they're the only ones on their own side.

    Just remember this simple tip. Any car, truck or motorcycle in front of you has the lead and generally legally speaking has the road right of way according to traffic laws. Here’s an example. If you’re tailgating too close and the vehicle ahead of you has to stop or swerve quickly for some reason (animal, obstruction on the road, etc) and you hit them, you’re 80 to 90 percent liable for all injuries or damages. Same is true if the group takes a turn left or right turn and you’re passing into their path of travel during the turn. You, the passing motorcycle is legally responsible for their injuries and damage to their equipment plus lawsuit costs. I could mention other scenarios too but hopefully people catch my drift. Best to pass safely and respectfully when the opportunity presents itself. This keeps all motorists safe and to live another day to enjoy. If you can’t pass safely, then wait until you can. Just because a crotch rocket can speed up quickly doesn’t mean it can be done responsibly every time. Speed has killed more people than they can imagine. Peace brothers!

    It is clear that all riders in this video love motorcycles, and the thrill, freedom and joy they bring to our lives. We invest heaps of money and time into bikes and the rewards are hard to describe to anyone who never rode.
    My guess is that there was an older group, and a younger group of riders involved. I could be wrong.
    I was a young rider many years ago. I’ll never forget the absolute adrenaline rush and feelings of extreme euphoria riding through mountain roads at high speed. It was the danger that made the body and mind come alive.
    Now that I’m in my sixties, I squirm when I think of the risks I took on public roads.
    I still ride. Experience taught me to slow down and take a more defensive approach to riding in traffic.
    Younger men have a need for speed. Nothing wrong with that, I fully understand, I’ve been there, but in my humble opinion, just remember that others could be hurt and traumatised if the margin for error runs out.

    Or if on a long straight multi laned highway (like Hou,Tx I-45) I'll either get in another lane away from them to give their space (as they were already there before me hence the right of way). Nope you don’t lane share pass a rider you don’t know especially a club member because there more likely to set your bike down. you go all the way around in the other lane or not at all adjusting your speed when you get inbetween them if you can get inbetween them most clubs ride a lot tighter than that and if you don’t have at least a cars length in between there motorcycles then you have to drop back or gun it all the way past. Just like if you got 7 cars in front of you wanna pass but there’s no break you wouldn’t run the 4th car off the road to cut in and then pass the other 3. Motorcycles are entitled to a full lane. definitely not safe doing in a no passing around around a corner in case a car comes and you have to cut back in where you no longer have space to do and send people flying alls you could see ahead of you is trees and no incoming traffic you put yourself and others at risk of fatal injuries and could’ve went poorly under different circumstances. If you wanna pass a club wait until it’s a passing zone and open it up treat them like cars and you’ll be fine but most importantly don’t if your not a good driver and can’t see far enough ahead

      @@guins99 I swear Harley guys always try to make everything about money when there are bikes that are actually good that cost more. It’s really hilarious that you think over paying for low grade crap wrapped in chrome makes you badass. Meanwhile I ride a $25,000 bmw S1000RR that has the latest in engineering and has ever ounce of performance squeezed out of it. Not to mention it’s made out of premium materials like titanium and magnesium while Harley’s are made of pot metal with chrome on the outside. Harleys aren’t premium bikes at all. I’ve had plenty of experience with Harleys, my dad and grandpa have been riding them all their life and I took my motorcycle endorsement class at a Harley dealer. I’ve test ridden plenty of them but I want to fall asleep on them. They’re literally about as fast as a Miata. It’s not badass to wear the same leather vest as a bunch of middle aged men and take turns at 15mph. Badass is riding a 230hp bike at the limit where real danger is involved.

      I've been in a 1% club and the no pasding thing us bullshit and so is the "you wouldn't be making this vid comment", provided tge one pasding is packing heat. You see, anyone with a ccw permit is a legal law abiding citizen and most club members who would actually DO SOMETHING tend to have already been on the wrong side of the law and if they attempt to do something at the next gas station, you'd be fully within your rights to pop caps in their asses (do you want to die in a gas station parking lot? If so then go ahead and fuk with a legal ccw holder). Also, any members of the club who are ALSO a legal ccw holder is NOT going to assault you or threaten you (Because he's smart enough to know he will be liable). So go ahead and over romanticize the 1% ideology of them bullying everyone. This ain't the 60s and that shit don't fly like it used to. And like I said, I used to be one of those club guys. So I'm not being biased. I'm being realistic
