Happy to have shared Arowana clips for this effort - better information makes for better fish keeping, healthier fish, and hobby growth! Keep up the good work KGTropicals 👍
The dropeye is actually not caused by activity on the bottom. It is caused by your tank lights, the light can irritate the arowana's eyes, causing it to drop to protect it from the bright lights and sometimes you need to cut down their food because the fat will build up behind the eye causing pop eye.
Ten things ideas. 1.worms and pericides. 2 water tests, maintenance 3 stingray 4 five gallon fishes 5 bottom feeders 6 surface fish 7 custom aquarium 8 lighting of lights 9 sand and sediment 10 decrocation 11 bleaching the tank. Etc
"The minimum tank size is 8 foot" coincidental your biggest tank is 8 foot, have you seen the size of the arrowana the Ohio Fish Rescue have got in their 4400?
They dont get as big as they do in the wild as they will in captivity. In captivity, unless you buy a gigantic tank, will only get about 3 feet or less. A lot of animals are like this across the board.
@@TrueSavage555 stunting is not good for the fish and should not be advocated. these fish shouldn't be owned unless you have several thousand gallons yeah
@@InkGraffiti Several thousand gallons isn't necessary my guy, a 9x4 aquarium is adequate and can happily house a silver aro for 10-15 years. Seen it tons of times. Is several thousand gallons ideal? Well yeah, obviously. But is it necessary? Not at all.
I had a silver arowana named ruby she died last year she was 15 years old she was about to turn 16 i miss her so much I know she is in a better place now ruby is in fish heaven ❤
I love the summer time. I get alot of locusts and the rains bring up the worms and there are just bugs everywhere. So my arowana gets alot of natural snacks. For the tank i never fill to the trim i have 5in of air space and the trim is cushioned with the same foam used for filter so if he does jump it wont cause damage. Sides of my tank are painted so even if he darts hell know theres a wall and is less likely to hit it super hard. I made my acrylic cover to have latches so hes unable to budge it when he does smack into it. The things i bought are definitely worth it and really cheap.

John. I have kept fish for 10 years and have lived in Baltimore my whole life. Never new about Lucky Aquarium. They dont have a phone number and when you do searches for fish stores they dont come up. Went there yesterday for the first time. Interesting place with some cool fish.
So interesting to learn the male carries the eggs and fry, and that arowana have teeth in their tongues. Now I have 2 more cool facts about arowanas. 👍💕👍
Think of having a "drop eye" as a random genetic occurrence in all Arowana. An individual in the wild with a pair of dropped eyes would be like a *severely* handicapped fish that's unable to hunt food like a normal one on the top layer so, unless they can manage to scrounge enough food to live off the bottom (competing with natural bottom feeders) that individual won't live long enough to mate successfully and its genes will die out. If an arowana has a *single* drop eye then it will have impaired binocular vision for top feeding but can still manage to top feed enough to live. Plus, that fish may use the dropped eye to supplement itself by doing some bottom feeding if it's lucky. So single drop eye is a slighter handicap. Evolution would generally keep down the drop eye genetics in a wild situation but, in a hobby situation with feeding provided to each and every fish regardless, the drop eye trait is now being artificially propped up in the gene pool so it has become a "thing" in the pet trade. The aquarium environment is playing a role but not the way you may think. It's not acting so much on an individual fish in its lifestyle but on the entire arowana gene pool by interrupting the natural selection pressure *against* having a handicap. Nature would keep the trait rare but hobby-raised fish get fed by their owners so the drop eye trait is flourishing in captive fish. That's my two cents anyway.
Can you do a part 2 on most abused fish, i cant believe you didnt include the bala shark! Can you also do a 10 things on snails and also nano tanks, like things under 10 gallons, also wild caught fish, i think that wild caught fish are fine as long as they are caught sustainably, in fact, I OWN WILD CAUGHT FISH THAT I CAUGHT MYSELF!
I suspect covered tanks contribute to drop eye as well. Theres little that they can see to keep them interested in looking up. Since a cover is mandatory, the cycle continues.

Hello. I just ordered some Chinese food and while waiting I sat next to a tank with three full-grown Silver Arowanas inside. I fell in love with them, totally. I felt quite sad watching these beautiful two-feet long fish try to swim around each other, back and forth in a way-too-small tank. It broke my heart. She said something and gestured at the space they were in and intimated she didn't have enough room for a bigger tank. It's full-on fish abuse in my opinion. These beauties need help. I thought of offering to buy them from her and investing in a proper set-up for them. To their credit, the tank was clean and the fish seemed healthy. I began researching what I'd need to rescue these guys. I don't know how big a tank is needed for these three large fish. Plus I live in a small studio. But I thought of donating to the school I work at.
