Fernando, it is beautiful! We like that it’s centrally located with a short drive to San Luis Obispo and Pismo Beach. I highly recommend this campground. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions I’m planning a trip there. I can give you some ideas on things to do in the area.

I loved the views on your video. 260 sunny days a year and an oceanview. Whats not to love? Next time stop for an hour mineral spring hot tub rental under the hillside oak trees at Sycamore Mineral Springs Resort & Spa. Great restaurant and Secret Garden are hidden gems.

I really enjoyed your style of an informational video and appreciated your points of interest. I also appreciated that you commented on pricing. Your style reminded of Huell Howser, golly-that's a good thing. Nice job.

Glad it was helpful Vincent! I grew up watching Huell Howser with my dad on PBS. We watched many episodes together. Maybe Huell’s episodes are so burned into my brain that his style is subconsciously reflected on our videos!

Marin is pronounced like Mare rin (Marin) and Avila is pronounced like Ave ill La. You need to be here on a Thursday evening for our downtown SLO farmers market,it’s rated #1 in California ( lots of food vendors and tons of Bar b Que ). Have safe travels and comeback to SLO county soon, we actually welcome tourists.

    • @airstreamexpeditions1

Thank you for the suggestion John. The farmers market was on my itinerary, but we arrived a little late Thursday night and we were not able to make it. I’ll keep it in mind for the next time we visit in April. Oh, and Avila is a Spanish surname pronounced aa-vee-lah, exactly as I said it.

You are absolutely correct! The union oil company used to own this land and at one point in time, this was the largest crude oil shipping point in the world. The industry ended with a persistent underground leak that ultimately necessitated a massive cleanup in the late 1990s.

Be very careful while camping from Oceano to Hearst Castle there are several very aggressive...State Park Rangers...Ranger K and Ranger B.E...they write lots of tickets every day for no reason they known you will not come back to fight the ticket so the price then more than doubles to pay off the bogus ticket...I got one in Morro Bay campground for just driving into the campground...95 bucks..233 to just no show and pay it off...I suggest any contact with a Ranger or any campground host be recorded...that is the world we live in...it's all about taking money from you...might not stop them from trying to rip you off but you will have a record to show to Calif State officials....they need to park at a desk Ranger K & Ranger B.E...

We’ve also been there in the month of February and although the water may be too cold for swimming, you can still kayak and visit nearby Pismo Beach. We’ll be there again at the end of June, in a couple of weeks. Happy camping!

Flying Flag campground there is horrendous place. Waayyy over priced with no water station nor dump station. The dry sites DO NOT include water or dumping facilities. What I mean by that, is that the campground has no general dump station for paying customers with water to fill tanks for your stay. They expect you to navigate back down the steep grade and maneuver into the boat launch parking lot with your 35’ rig and pull up to a pay station to take on water. When you leave, to bad. No dump. Plus our overpriced dry site backed up to a slag heap of construction waste. Zero “ocean views” like the misleading photo’s on the web site. We will never stay there again. Just not that idyllic of a spot like their web site portrays it. The tiny town has nothing to offer really. The pier is all there really is. Note that the main topic in this vid is the pier

@@airstreamexpeditions1 My hope is that many people become aware of the items I’ve outlined. I’ve been RV’ing since 2000 and don’t recall an RV campground that would not allow you to dump or load water like that. Over $100 a night for a dirt lot with zero view and construction slag. The campground is still being built, so there’s construction occurring. There are no dump stations anywhere near to Avila Beach. You’d have to drive to Pismo to find water or dump.

I totally get it Dino. $160 per night isn’t cheap, but there are many people out there that don’t mind the price as long as they’re in close proximity to the ocean and have all the amenities. This campground isn’t for everyone. We really appreciate your support of the channel and feedback.

I get it. Everyone who lives in a tight knit community wants to keep it clean and safe however, people who visit the flying flags campground are typically RV travelers a little more on the affluent side as it’s not cheap to camp there. This brings money into the community and I’m sure local small businesses appreciate the patronage.
