Justin, I'm an Architectural Drafter and many times creating furniture that fits the kind of geometric plans is a nightmare; the warehouse doesn't always have the kind of furniture piece I need, but today I just saw your video over the extension "Weld" and I got to say that you showed my how to save valuable time in creating furniture with the "Weld" tool. Once again Justin I got to say Thank you for taking the time to help me SketchUp better.
Not really - I assume it's because SketchUp likes linear segments that just run end to end. If you start adding additional segments, you're removing the end to end architecture. Thanks!
Quick question, when you created the circle setup, for following along the helix, you flipped the orientation quickly. -i have zero fun at all trying to get SketchUp to draw circles on the axes I desire. (And I end up purposely drawing a box or flat surface, just so I can then draw my desired-oriented circle onto it!) --how did you toggle like that?
You can lock a tool to an axis by tapping one of the arrow keys on your keyboard - I believe I talked about it in this video - ua-cam.com/video/tHYXGt84yGo/v-deo.html - Thanks!
Is there such a thing, that you're talking about above? I'm trying to create a series of elliptical arches, made of elliptical tubes (think inflatable-type structure) and really I want to flatten the hidden geometry to produce a 'net'/pattern of flat faces that will create that form in 3d once assembled.. is there anything that can assist this?!
I'm trying to install Weld, and this message appears: "This extension is marked as being not compatible with your Operating System or SketchUp Version. Proceed anyway?" If i say Yes, then this appears "This extension will have the ability to access the file system on your computer. Do not grant access to this lightly; be sure you you trust the author". Do you know why do these messages appear?
I was using multiple geometry to create an object,(ex.circle over a circle to create an object. Apparently it wont weld that, and i had to redraw the object Using lines and curves so that it would weld.
Zoom in and see if there are any small irrelevant lines at the end point of each curve that maybe is creating very small triangular faces. because this's what happened to me. it used to not weld them all, but once i removed these faces, all was good.

Hi Jack! Glad you liked it!
You have just solved all of my gripes with SketchUp. I cant thank you enough!
Glad you found it helpful!
Great video I am new to sketchup you cover subjects very well
Thanks Chuck - really appreciate it! :)
Thank you again! The best Sketchup channel that I always make sure to share with my friends!
Thanks very much!
Weld looks brill. Thanks for the tut, impressive results .
I wish I had your knowledge thanks
Lol - well I try to pass on as much as I can :)
New subscriber! Easy to follow and the teacher is good👍
Nice! I like it when you deviate from the norm.
Thanks Rich!
thanks
I think i will like all your video, they're so much useful! for sketch up user :))
thank you very much
Very useful
Very good tutorial. Keep em coming.
Thanks Rick!
thanks for share
best regards
Your video is great. thanks
Thanks - glad you liked it!
Thanks for sharing. It is interesting to note that "weld" cannot handle branches (like in a 3D stick model). Any idea why?

Thank you
Thanks for watching!
nice lesion
Thanks a lot!
If I weld a block and draw a line intersected with the block, why does it split it?
yes
it wont let me offset after I weld? is that typical ?
500 likes :) - well deserved

Is there such a thing that you could flaten a 3d object (Like a Teddy Bear) and create a fabric pattern off it in Sketchup ??
Hi Aaron - are you talking about unwrapping an object so that it's flat so you can apply a material?

Epic
Thanks!
please help, i cant weld my lines instead it segmented it more
Start simple - does weld work on just 2 lines in a segment? Weld shouldn't have the ability to split up lines...
