- CSX Railroad Interchange With A 6 Locomotive Train Getting Permission To Enter The Main Line. Train With DPU. Train Comes Out Of A Tunnel With Huge Auto Racks. Norfolk Southern Train Easing Down A Steep Grade. These trains are in Kentucky. Covington, Kentucky & Crescent Springs are included.
I drove over a train on Interstate 275 while entering Kentucky from Ohio. I decided to film that train so I drove ahead to Covington at the CSX interchange. This area has a lot of crime recently so I left after filming the train going around the tight curve in front of a sober living facility.
Next train is coming out of a tunnel less than a mile south of the first train. After I filmed the first train I left and then heard the train give a clear signal at the junction that I had just been at. I heard the train on 160.230 and found out that it was on its way to Louisville, Kentucky from Cincinnati.
The tunnel is the same spot where I filmed the girl walking through down the middle of a track while a train was passing on the other track. Remember that epic video? After I filmed that train I drove to a nicer area in Northern Kentucky on the Norfolk Southern line.
The NS train is on its way to Gest street Yard in Cincinnati. We see it easing down the long grade that drops into the Ohio River Valley. Its really cool to watch trains working on this hill. I have seen trains stall coming up the hill and need assistance. Check out some of my Hill videos.
Filmed Thursday, January 19, 2023 Thanks for watching!

Mr Tooth, as much as I enjoy your videos, they are not worth putting yourself in danger. Please be very careful when filming and by all means STAY SAFE.
Most respectfully - Bruce Paul
Always be safe; we all would hate for something to happen to you in your quest to get us a video. Also, that train coming out of the tunnel was going slow enough you could have tagged a few (lol).
Some of the tagging shows a lot of artistic talent. Loved the Pennywise clown!
You need to look out for yourself. Be safe.
I never thought of Covington, KY as being in the same league as Newark, Baltimore, Detroit or Chicago.
Detroit has a bad rap but it’s changed through the years, there are just some bad areas of it
Be careful! We need you safe and out making the amazing videos! Always put your safety first. 😀😀😀
Don't put yourself in danger just for us you are doing a great job brother
Stay safe out there Mr Tooth!
Very brave of you to film in that neighbourhood!
Mister jatu I am 70 years old and retired and enjoy your videos very much my grandfather had a house in Hillsboro Illinois and we were 200 yards from the New York Central Mainline back in the 50s and 60s I really enjoyed watching the New York Central come through there
That's awesome! I sure would like to get over there and film some more. I was in Illinois in 2021 filming with Shoestring and spent one night there
Stay safe, Brian. There's loads of places much safer to get good videos. Appreciate you so much.
Good Morning JT. Yes please be careful out there. The world's a messd up place these days. Up here in Toronto Ontario, we've had many unprevoked attacks on people where the attacker never knew the victims. Two people unfortunately died as a result of this. One victim was a senior just out for a walk, the other was a homeless guy trying to protect his friend as about 7-8 young girls swarmed his and stabbed/beat him to death. Stay safe out there big guy. Cheers.
Sounds like Baltimore I'm a half hour away nice where I'm at but still to close
@@Michael-eu1mz yes I agree. I lived in North Toronto for a preriod of time. Where I was living it was quiet for the most part. I mean in summer you could hear gun shots from time to time. Where I was living, a large creek divided up the nice area where I was and the gang violence that was on the other side of that large creek. Got outta there in a short time. Now I am an hour and a half away from that concrete jungle.
Watch your back when filming around that area. We don't want anything to happen to you. Please be careful. Or stay out. Your life is more important. Great video. Have a nice day
Once again, please stay safe. There are plenty of excellent places to film from. At least stay in the truck so you can drive away if someone approaches.
or bring a friend or 2.
Hey jaw tooth we appreciate you filming trains everywhere. Please please stay safe out there. No the hatch on tankcar should not be open. Someone forgot to close it. Have a great railroad day 🚂🙋♀️❤️
When i see that many locomotives, you know thats train gonna be long!
I Like all of the Locos - I've got several Geeps, a couple of U-Boats and some SDs. Plus i've got a couple of RSD-15 Alligators. All on my Generic USA Railroad. Great Stuff! BBe extra careful in those didguy locations. You don't want to get caught in the crossfire of a drug fight - I think of you as a friend, and I don't like losing my friends, Brian. So Take care.
Yesterday, on the way to the store....passed the Indy sub behind my house...8 CSX engines were pulling a train north bound...7 GEs and a SD60 right in the middle...
Very cool but dangerous location! Thanks for filming there, and thanks for blurring the bad stuff and keeping it kid friendly! I know it's hard especially as bad as the graffiti has got nowadays. Stay safe Jawtooth and thanks for sharing!
There are a few cars that look new, or have fresh coats of paint on them. It does my heart good to see that. If I see too many in a long train with excessive grafitti, I will just click away to something else. I have no other connection to the trains except seeing good looking and cool looking cars. 1/23/23
Mr JT you be careful out there. I wouldn't go back to video in those dangerous places again. We need you to video those awesome trains you record.
That half way house looks like a former railroad station/depot.
We lived in Conway, PA and there is a large yard there. I noticed over thirty Norfolk Southern engines sitting in the yard. We loved to hear the trains moving through the yard and we loved to watch the railroad humping cars and build trains to go out all over the country. The yard is about thirty-five miles north of Pittsburgh and sixty miles south of Erie, PA. We have moved to Economy, PA but still enjoy our trips down to see the rail yard activity.💝
I lived near Harrisburg when I was in my youth and you would not believe how huge the rail yard is in Enola, PA. It's MILES of trains in there. I have no idea how that stuff works, but they line those cars up and pull 'em down the tracks.
Hay JT please be very careful while filming videos we don’t want to lose you my friend may God bless you and your to family keep you safe my friend ❤
Awesome video with a dpu working hard but wait there’s more 👍😎❄️🚂🇺🇸
For sure!!
@@JawTooth -- I love how you say, "DPU - I see you!"
Hey JT please be very careful in these bad areas's your life is not worth losing. Please be safe and we all love your awesome catches and love the little furry ones. may God protect you and your family as well.
YEARS ago, that was a big L&N yard at the junction going south. And there WAS a wye!
Thank you
Your videos are informative and relaxing.
Glad you like them!
@@FabianDiazTrainsTrucksNCars thanks for watching and commenting Fabian!
Never should be an open hatch.
Birds love to make a nest in everything.
Some critters might take advantage of the open hatch too.
I think 33,000 gallons is the maximum capacity tank car allowed, but in the sixties, there were 50,000 gallon tank cars with four trucks, but I don’t think you see those anymore. Thanks for sharing JT.
I had to screenshot that Pennywise car. That was epic!
It is so funny! When you said that green house would be a nice place to live, but you would have to fence in the yard, I literally had said that exact same thing early when you showed it.
You shot some awesome videos .Thank you.
Awesome view
You and Mrs JawTooth have a great weekend
Amazing videos Jaw Tooth keep up the good work
Thanks for your videos.. I like hearing the radio traffic in the back ground... I hope you play more radio Traffic in your future videos.
Merci beaucoup pour cette très belle vidéo et très bon week-end ! 👍🙏
A nice weather video today….mild. Fairly sunny day. Thanks for the video, Brian. See you on the next! 😊
We had a few good days in Michigan
Now we're back to Winter
Wow tremendous horsepower to come from a full stop on a hill & back up to speed in short order. Fantastic action!
Always be safe JT, we love what you're doing.
Nice to hear the Bengals and Ravens game in the slideshow
Looked like penny wise the clown on that train…very cool. Great video JT
that first train had some REAL power on it, EMD engines! long live the EMD power houses.
Brian I would be to nervous to film there. Shame those good places to film have to be dangerous like that
Another great train video!!
If you're rolling around in the rail ghetto like that, I'd sure hope you have the necessary, ah, accessories on hand. Even the trains are scared to got by there!
My uncle Paul worked as a conductor for CXS formerly Chessie and was conductor on the Middleburg phosphorus train wreck. He claimed about Miamisbîrg fire department for putting so much water on the phosphorus because that just created lots of vapor. He never told me much about what caused the wreck though, he probably wasn't allowed to.
Another excellent video and be safe out there JT!!!
Great one JT. Love the tunnel shot. Thanks and stay safe.
Great video JT. Be safe getting us rail fans great content.
Great video JT. Take care and stay safe out there.
Mr jaw tooth I liked that spot where you was in front of the steel truss bridge and Norfolk southern train goes over the road with the sharp curve to go the railroad bridge
Beautiful freight trains!🚂🚃🚃🚃🚃🚃
You should try and go to Durand MI or Holly MI it’s a lot better and safer. It’s a good place
JT it was funny when you mentioned the size of those tank cars because I had just said that before you said it. They were the biggest I've ever seen.
That tunnel is a cool spot. Great catches! Watch out for the crackheads. Great video!
Thanks! Will do!
At 19:08 see a new Hourglass autorack belonging to the Nebraska Kansas Colorado Railway. The Hourglass autoracks are wider on the insides to give the loaders more room to get out of larger cars that are loaded in them.
Excellent trains. Chessie is such a brat sometimes! Thanks, Jaw Tooth.
Awesome video keep up with a great work and be safe out there.
JT: That lid shouldn't be open. At the Railway Interchange in Indianapolis about 5myears ago one of the tank car operators showed how they were camera which showed what was happening to tank car almost in real time.. Stay safe, you've got family that NEED you..
Hey there, Jawtooth! Love your videos. Greetings from over here in Germany!! We moved here back in the summer. My wife and I are from Virginia, but will be living over here for up to five years.
Germany has a lot of railroad activity - both freight & passenger. Their trains tend to be very short (1 engine and maybe 30 cars) and the run every few minutes on the same track - much different than CSX or Norfolk Southern, where the run very long trains every few hours. Their control system must be amazing so that they can keep things moving safely. Every locomotive I have seen is electric, but they must still use diesels in places without power lines over the tracks.
Keep Chessie and Norfie out of trouble and stay safe! Guten abend!!
P.S. My wife thinks I am totally nuts, but I have become addicted to your channel + that of a guy who is a tow truck driver who films it when he "yanks" cars that are illegally parked. Both of you have a talent for making relaxing yet compelling video footage.
With today's bizarre crime please don't become a statistic. Just because it's a junction doesn't mean it has to be photographed I'm sure your family would like to see you return at night. That CSX Freight was one of those that probably had every type of chemical there is plus a wide variety of unusual reporting marks as well as a very high percentage of cars carrying carbon black. The auto rack train has one car with a home for repair tag on it. What's funny is even though the rack has the CN emblem the car through Creative Accounting is "owned" by Wisconsin Central and was built after the WC acquisition. Poor Chessie looked disappointed in that Norfie took the good seats and there weren't any snacks left. You need to hire the Hawaii Five-O staff for security
Great video!!
Jaw Tooth. Always good videos, makes for a time for us viewer to relax. DON'T ANSWER THIS, but since you end up going to sketchy and or lonely areas, have you thought of getting a CCW? I think you may have several choices, (1) don't go to those bad areas whenever possible or (2) get in really good shape so you can run really really fast (that should always be a better option than #3), (3) if you're like me and can't run really really fast, hang something on your belt and use it as the very very last resort. Take care. By the way, I am really old and do so so UA-cam shooting videos.
Love the tunnel. Cool location.
ANOTHER GOOD VIDEO OF THE TRAINS JT THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT AND TIME I APPRECIATE IT AND YOU HAVE A GOOD AND SAFE TRAVELS JIM KAMMERER OF PHILADELPHIA PA NORFOLK SOUTHERN RULES MY RAILS 👌
We’re used to 60 degrees in January in Missouri 😂
Good video jawtooth , please be careful out there
Hello from Ohio back in 1959 my grandparents had all the windows and doors open with 70 degree weather
Great video. That CSX Junction area is very cool, however, I add my comments to others who say: Please Be Careful! It is not worth your life.
Hay JT but there’s more I hope that you have a nice night and a great day tomarow ❤
Another great video!
Always Nice! E Hunter Harrison Specials!!! Be Safe! Know Your Surroundings!!! God Bless!!!!
Jawtooth, You are right, there are some sketchy people around the railroad tracks (Not speaking about rail fans, of course!) I live in a small town near Ft. Hood, TX on BNSF's Lampasas Subdivision and I started filming BNSF trains headed out of and to the Temple, TX yard (use to be the Santa Fe yard) last October to build up an inventory of train videos and thinking about starting a UA-cam channel. Due to some lowlifes around the tracks, I carry 2 guns and a 7 1/2" hunting knife: A Ruger LCP in my boot, & a S&W M&P 9mm Shield in my belt. Both are loaded and ready. Don't know the situation in Ohio, but we have Constitutional Carry in Texas. You might want to think about arming up! I was over at the Temple yard this morning. Sure are a lot of BNSF Locos sitting and idle. Keep your head on a swivel and your eyes on the prize!
Ohio just recently became a "permitless carry" state. Hoping for many more states to join the club, though.
The LD LMT 164.700 LB is stamped on the side of that huge white tanker car.
Hi JT,be safe in your filming areas. The auto racks were probably going to Toyota in Georgetown KY or Louisville KY to one of the Ford plants there.
I bet there are more auto-rack cars painted like these than there are any other cars so decorated. There is a big yard used for them in Winston-Salem, NC.
Great Catches!
Good Morning All...
Good morning Jon
Like 👍 congratulations for the video my friend!
Thank you very much!
That auto rack train had some nice graffiti on it! AWESOME trains thank you
Great videos once more. Saddens me that no thru trains come thru my community anymore. Its strictly I&O...
There is no more efficient way to move goods long distances than trains. Per ton of goods moved, trains pollute much less than trucks and notice how the newer locomotives (in the blue sky sun) don't even have visible exhaust. Put a WABTEC battery EPU on the train and efficiency goes up 15% with more safety on grades. Looking forward to some trains in the snow early February. Thinking Chessie, Brandy, Sophie and Norfie will be inside most of the time. Hope duck is OK. Hope the horses have a hay filled barn.
Well, not all goods. It takes a lot of energy taking a RR car or two that "last mile."
As a retired trucker, I mostly agree that rail is the most efficient way to move LOTS OF CARGO over great distances - on a per ton basis. However, tracks don't go to every single destination and in today's "just in time" society, people want their stuff and they want it NOW.
Trains won't likely ever replace trucks, but if time is of less concern than tonnage, there is nothing better than rail for moving freight.
@@1VaDude correct, trains don't go to every destination. That's where trucks come in and where improved rail infrastructure and better train-truck coordination would likely make a difference. No way will every interest like this. JP Morgan was not pleased his rail empire was threatened by trucks and Rockefeller was majorly upset that Edison's lightbulb would diminish kerosene sales until Ford educated Rockefeller about more money to be made with formerly a nuisance, gasoline.
@@markwiener1091 -- I predict a rise in the use of "intermodal" transport. Piggyback trailers on flatbed rail cars for long distances and then "local" drivers picking the trailers at a railhead and delivering the product to the final destination.
Great catches especially where the CSX train was abt to enter the Queensgate Yard! That was a nice catch of the train coming out of the tunnel. Then to top it off at the RATHOLE line which is one of my favorite locations! It's sad how crime has escalated over the years. Almost seems like it's not safe to go anywhere nowadays. Thanks again for sharing some awesome footage with us! Cheers from Delmar, Delaware
How sad that violence was in the area.
Long time viewer, first time poster. Ditto the comments on your personal safety, you bring happiness to a lot of people (along with your animals!). Just wondering -- if you're looking for any ideas or suggestions -- if you could somehow get some shots of that massive railroad bridge you mentioned that crosses the Ohio River between Cincy and Covington (Newport?). I spent some time working in Cincinnati in 2006-7 and used to go "Newport on the Levee" a lot for dinner and always marveled at that bridge (and the one upriver from it that was Roebling's practice exercise for the Brooklyn Bridge in New York). The only time I could see the RR bridge was while driving on the highway next to it - and I was always the one doing the driving!! I understand that the main building in that Newport complex was originally a railroad station. A pretty grandiose building in its heyday. Anyway, thanks for everything, stay safe --- and healthy!
Be safe 🙏 out their, love your Train 🚆 Videos but take care !!
nice to see clean cars with no graffiti
Awesome video Brian 😊
Great video. Thank You.
Glad you liked it!
That’s a really nice rehab house. Stay safe.
Wow - Danger - Danger - Be Careful - It may be time to cary the great equalizer • Cheers from the Detroit & Mackinac Railway 🚂
The train is so long and impressive. I surprised when it come out of the tunnel. by Train lover🤓
Hey JT: I think "vandalism" is completely appropriate to use, above" graphitti" 👎. There's so much of it, it really makes the cars look uglier than they need to be. Not to worry, though; I always look forward to another JT video 👍👍!!
You might want to go to the Queens gate yard and so maintenance the part of the train coming out of the tunnel. The way those auto racks are banging it might be BROKEN RAIL!! Hopefully I am wrong. It would be better than a derailment. Steven Sipes
Good morning Jawtooth and good video
2nd tankcar in less than 2 months with a hatch open! Good catch JT.
Amazing ❤🚂❤
Very nice JAW🙂👍 Cheers Ulli
Thank you! Cheers!
🙏🙏🙏stay safe.. thank you enjoy your channel 😊
Thanks so much
Wohoo 😁 awesome video sorry about the bad spot
Great good made video, mr Jaw Tooth.
May i say that on the top of the first train with 4 locomotives have a double DPU.
Two 6 axels locomotives and two 4 axels locomotives=a double DPU. But a train riding with open boxcars or open tankcar is in Europa not done. Every freighttrain in Europa is controled by a carmaster in Dutch: wagenmeester.
Greet from Zandvoort the Netherlands 🇾🇪🇺🇸
Greetings to you from a US citizen living in Germany. Very cool rail system over here!
Good morn I enjoyed the video👍👍
Thanks 👍
Good catches Son ... I was the 500th viewer of this vid ... Stay safe ...
