  • Today I have a Sonos Playbar soundbar that came in for the complaint of a damaged optical input jack. After a little research I found a DLR1160 available for replacement, and after replacement the soundbar works perfectly again.

    The little door on the optical port broke on my new speakers on day 2. The problem was the sound from my Samsung TV was not working so I tried multiple cables in case that was the issue, but taking the cable in and out so many times deteriorated the plastic.

    As almost any device nowadays: designed to be cheap to build and to survive the warranty period. Zero concerns about serviceability.

      Most devices nowadays are BAWE (breakable after warranty ends) and designed with a higher failure rate. Cheap flimsy parts.

      Hi i recently purchased Sony HT-RT3 home theatre two weeks ago and they didn’t check that product and doesn’t provide any demo. Just now i know the Optical cable slot has been damaged. Then i raised a complaint to Sony they are saying like i need to change Mother board and the cost from my pocket!! Stating that it’s a physical damage it won’t cover under warranty!! But its a manufacturer defect!!

    Have you any Advice on how to remove the old board. Is it possible without a Hotair soldering station, as I don't have one? Can you just pull the housing that's held by two pins off with the optical receiver staying in place? Would make it way easier with just two pins. I have a new TV Mainboard with a optical Output damaged in exactly the same way as yours. And I have to get the damaged port off and want to salvage the intact port of the broken motherboard. So the non damaged port I want to keep intact while pulling it off from the board.

    Judging by looking at your left hand it must have been a bear during the dry runs getting it apart. 🤣 good job!

    I followed your video because i thought my toslink connector was broken. But now that i've made it open i discovered a broken component. It is c364 and probably c386. Is there a components list somewhere on the internet?

    Do you remember the cost of that part ?
    I ask because I have the same problem . I wouldn’t even think of trying to fix it myself , as soon as I took it apart , parts would fly all over the place, and I have no idea what to do lol.
    The issue now is if I wanna swap out the speaker at 30% off I also have to swap out 5x Sonos 5s that are outdated for the new app.
    Yes , the cost of that optical casing part . We are talking 3000+ for new speakers plus now a useless sub base !
    All because Sonos won’t repair there products, and no other local 3rd party electronics repair shop want to even touch it !
    The rest of the speaker and system works fine, I just have no tv surround .

      I have only repaired the Playbars and do not know if the others are the same. Sorry. The playbar receivers are a DLR1160 part number.

    Maybe you can help me. I hope. I have a broken connector just like the one you replaced. my soundboard is a Visio. I can't seem to find the replacement no part numbers, it has 2 legs soldered one on each side on the insert part of the socket and there are 3 legs soldered on the back or Interior part of the socket. I don't know where i can get an schematic to I can solder another one outside of the unit since the legs would not match. I plant to use this one in my man cave. Thanks

    Going to guess cable was put in upside down, with a not so gentle amount of pushing to get the cable end to fit.

    Thank you, very useful, similar issue at my side and I bought the spdif connector, I disassembled my unit but stopped just before fully removing the PCB board; my problem is to remove the little flex cable from its connector (seems glued); I removed the two other cables from their connectors but for this one it seems more challenging, would you have any advice ? did you have to face the same issue with that little flex flat cable ? What best to do ? Is it easy to reinsert it back ?

      Replying to myself for other people potentially concerned to complement this excellent video, In the process to my views you have three main points of attention:
      1- Removing a rubber to pass a flat cable within its corresponding hole; No need to cut the rubber as suggested by Norcal (although easier) but be aware those speakers are mounted by Sonos in such a way it should be completely air sealed for vibration/quality reasons. Thus prefer passing the rubber through the hole as well having the cable in diagonal (forcing a bit but carefully);
      2- This little flex cable on the PCB (requires very good eyes or a magnifier glass and a light), very gently remove the sticker on top and turn the black lever at 90° angle with your finger to release the cable (no tool), it is stuck underneath as well by a sticker, you could gently move up the cable from its sticky point.
      3- Removing the Spdif connector, object of this tutorial, use a heat gun rather than a traditional solder iron, it will be easier not to damage it.
      It works fine now,
      Thank again Norcal

    Hello,
    Nice job. I have to change my toslink and several or the 6 speakers in the playbar.
    There are no references on the speaker. Do you have a clue of what kind of speaker I have to buy?
    Regards

    • @norcal715
      @norcal715  3 роки тому

      If it is the toslink optical input, then most likely yes if you can source a replacement jack.
