- Talk’s Kevin O’Sullivan is joined by director of advocacy at Sex Matters, Helen Joyce, to discuss comments by Lisa Nandy saying it should be up to sporting bodies to decide whether transgender athletes should be allowed to compete in women’s sport.
JK Rowling has hit back, branding the new culture secretary as “one of the main reasons I couldn’t vote Labour”.
Nandy says sporting authorities should “take biology into account”, adding that they were “more expert in making judgements” about letting trans women compete.

This is just a silly take. Women are leaving sports but they're being ignored. There is no doubt that we will reach the point where the rules make sense before 100% of women refuse to take part.
But heartbreaking when they put so many hours of training and dedication into their lives??? Why should they agree to it??? Anything with its meat and 2 veg better not show up where the grandchildren are - changing rooms etc!!

A woman can have a significant size advantage and still be at a great risk of getting beaten to death by a man fighting to win.
Lol. It's always non-athletes who have this opinion. Anyone who has competed in sport knows that men are so much stronger and faster. In sports that are a bit more even--like long distance running--women's pelvises and the greater angle with the knee are what likely keep them from having as good of times as the men. Women aren't men with less testosterone and more estrogen. Women's bodies are entirely different and men can't be sufficiently handicapped with hormones to be on the same level. The whole thing is so insulting to us as women athletes. These men can just compete in the men's fields with makeup and long hair.

no doubt nandy has based her unbiased opinion on the very selective video footage released so far by members of the mob, i was a Police firearms rifle marksman for decades and the pc concerned would only have acted in this way if , he saw his colleagues being seriously assaulted or he believed he was about to be overpowered by the mob and his weapon compromised, the mob knew he was armed but they continued to attack the officers believing that he would not dare to use his weapon, he took one down and then was attacked by his friends, his priority was to immobilise the man already down so he was no longer a threat before tackling the others, remember the others had already been tasered but still continued the attack, there was even a female wandering about capturing the event on her mobile phone, i believe that this was a setup and the incident was contrived or that the persons involved believed that they were immune from British law, you could see the unmitigated hatred and aggression on the faces and in the actions of the other men involved, If the SAS had been dealing with this incident they would have shot dead the guy on the ground who was a continuing threat before dealing with the rest. little has been said of the officers who ended up in hospital with serious injuries, remember one police female had her nose broken in three places, this would have a been very rare if British males had been involved. It was obvious that they had contempt and disregard for females in positions of authority.

Any person in a position of influence and power, especially in Government who is unable to state categorically that the participation of genetically born males in womens sports is not allowed, has no right to be entrusted with the position they occupy and Lisa Nandy is an example of that.

I have just heard that a woman boxer at the Olympics was beaten up by a trans boxer and has consequently died , if that is true it's outrageous and the IOC should now be charged with aiding abetting murder .

In a women's bicycling championship in Washington, 3 TIMs took 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Pathetic does not even describe that scenario. I imagine that would not even be able to qualify for the men's tournament, much like the recent fellow in a women's weight lifting competition beat the other women by 200 kg. In the men's division he was not even ranked.
5 men on a women's soccer team. 2 and 3 men on volley ball teams, etc, etc

The IOC can set a standard to deal with this issue, as it sets other standards such as minimum age. So they are chicken out on this too.

It's time more leaders stood up for women in sport and had some common sense.
Nandy moving her position is fantastic. But no one should be able to have stood where she stood, given the consequence of her position, while believing what she believed and saying what she said. All is not forgiven, just because her position changed. Legitimately, she must ultimately stand for the consequences of her former, monumentally wrong proclamations.
The Policeman probably was holding back so as not to hurt him too much. We know Trans can do this in a race, then they increase speed at the end so they win by heaps.
How much longer do the female athletes have to wait for Nandy to get to the point where she supports them? She could be expected to do more.

As ever the problem can be defined in that there is ZERO concern over trans men in male sport, for the very same reason trans women in female sport.
Having someone making decisions on sports who never did sports is like having someone in the kitchen who's never cooked in the life it's madness.
Keep on dancing around the issue. We need Parliament to make law what the definition of a male and a female is and then confirm that biological sex is the mainstay of any instance where the definition of sex is required as the norm.

Small number play in some men's sports e.g. triathlon.
Men's sports are effectively an open category, unless safety is a factor.
