  • In this video I explain to you why I made this video: • ITALIANS TRY ITALIAN A...
    This video is so funny hahaha This is what happens when you serve this type of Italian food to an Italian. Watch the video to see the Italian reaction to some of the most popular Italian dishes served in Italian-American Restaurants. Italians are very proud of their food and food is one of the most important things in Italian culture. Italian cuisine is well respected all over the globe and it's been ranked in the top 3 cuisines in the world for many many years. Italian cuisine vary from city to city and from region to region and every dish has a story and tradition. Eating Italian food should be a memorable experience. There are so many different recipes in Italy and Italians who live in Italy haven't tried all of them yet. Next time you order a chicken pasta or alfredo pasta think twice. Don't waste your money for popular food but instead learn more about Italian culture and it's food. For Italians Food is more important then the bible.

      I wonder why Italian food is considered healthy? Think of all that starch and carbohydrate they have in their diet. Stuffing yourself with carbohydrates is great for athletes and other exceptionally active people because they need a lot of energy. The body breaks down carbs into sugar while this is good news for sports people it causes the average person to gain serious amounts of weight in the medium term.

    • @aliceiannaccone9113
      @aliceiannaccone9113 7 років тому +28

      Stephanie G that's actually not true, the body breaks up the carbs into atp, which is needed for cellular activity.
      and just one thing you should notice: italians together with japanese have the highest percentage of 100 year-olds. if our diet (as i'm a proud italian) wasn't healthy there wouldn't be so many old people

And all the best tiramisu, the best coffee i ever have was in italy. Not only in rome, in pisa, in milano and Lugano same. So ya I understand your passion in food and i love it. Authentic Italian food is not Italian-American food. If the food is made like how native Italians would make it, then there's no American element. Good Italian food from good Italian restaurants most probably serve authentic Italian food. It makes no sense to pay a premium for an inferior imitation.

      The quality of the food, especially pasta, is not only based on the origin of the pasta itself (there are two main types of pasta: pasta fresca is made with eggs, pasta essicata is made without eggs and is the most used in Italy), but also on the WAY you cook it, serve it, and plate it. You just CAN'T cook pasta in cold water (you first have to bring the water to a boil at 100 degrees C) and without salt (use "sale grosso")! We also do NOT cook pasta in pans (unless you've already boiled it in water until it's "al dente" and then you finish off the cooking in a pan with other ingredients, like oil + pepper flakes + garlic), or use excessive amounts of meat or fish or cream cheese as toppings/sauces. For instance, take "pasta alla carbonara": first of all there is a specific type of pasta you must use - and that is spaghetti, preferibly thick ones -, and second of all we do use "guanciale" (which I am not sure is the same thing as bacon, I need to proofcheck that) but with moderation! The ratio of pasta to meat should be roughly 3:1... not like in your "spaghetti chicken carbonara"! As an Italian, I don't even think there even is a recipe that uses chicken as a topping/sauce, not even with "ragù" (the product of cooking ground meat with "odori" like carrots, red onions and celery).
      Post Scrittum: I literally have no idea where you read that "the United States is increasingly becoming a leader in the fine cheese making"... I truly believe we have a wayyyy DIFFERENT perception of what "fine cheese" is, and it certainly is NOT that repelling-looking orange block of gummy unkown substance you pass of as "cheese". I'm sorry, there just is no competition between THAT e una bella forma di parmigiano reggiano!
      (You've just been ranted from a 17 year old Florentine girl, ciaoo)

      I know this is sacrilege but pizza was made world famous not by the Italians but by Italian Americans from the US. Saying one is better than the other is a misnomer as they are really two different things.

Poi dici che la nostra cucina Italian-American è quasi razzista? Avevo già litigato con Vincenzo e della sua ignoranza sul cibo Americano ma questo video e i suoi commenti erano troppo ridicoli e non potevo non rispondere. I've made Cajun Alfredo pasta for many Italians who have enjoyed it thoroughly. As a foodie I don't understand why you can't wrap your head around the importance of quality ingredients and experience. Cultural knowledge can help, but it's not entirely necessary. Should we all just apologize for cooking each other's food and go back to eating only what is geographically native to each country? I live in Canada and I know many Italians. I have NEVER known an Italian in my city to shop for food in any place but an Italian-owned and operated market. I’m sure there must be Italians out there that do their grocery shopping in chain supermarkets-I’m just not aware of any. This preference for Italian establishments among Italians generally also applies to restaurants. When they must, they will venture to the odd burger place, diner, sushi, Thai, Greek restaurant, or steakhouse, but overwhelmingly, when left to their own devises, they will frequent Italian places to the near exclusion of anything else. This singleminded dedication to their own products and cuisine is sometimes carried to extremes: for instance, many of my Italian friends are convinced that their regional cheeses and wines, their foie gras and truffles, are vastly superior to those of France; they insist that their engineering, machinery, and automobiles are better than those of the Germans; their olive oils better than those of Greece; their modern furniture is sleeker than Danish designs; that Italian bespoke tailoring is finer than that of Savile Row, their fashion and perfumery second to none, etc., etc., etc. For all their cosmopolitanism, I find that the outlook of a great many Italians - even the more sophisticated types - is in this regard, remarkably provincial.

Back in the "old country", they had the culture all around them, so it was fine to be more open-minded and experimental. The safety of familiarity was right there to fall back on when things got bad.
      Also, there is the xenophobia. I can imagine Italians are one of the people who are subjected to racism and prejudices. Also, if you keep telling your Italian friends that French cheeses and wines are better, that German cars and machinery are better, that Greek olive oil, Danish design, British tailoring, and so on and so forth, that everything not Italian is better, they will tell you you're wrong. I know Finland has her faults, but I'm sure not to talk about them to people who hack on her.

Some of the people that eat this stuff struggle in the kitchen and out of it, mocking them and poorly representing others who do make an effort to emulate Italian food wont really do much other than make them perceive you as arrogant. Not really the best approach to educate really just cheap laughs from the "Italian food Ambassador"

      Vincenzos Plate actually Mac and cheese is a dish from England (look this up) and no, no American ever considers the dish to be Italian....like we never do or have. Most of us think of it as southern soul food. The only thing about it that’s Italian is the word Macaroni....btw, why would you intentionally serve frozen food and expect a good reaction? Do you honestly believe Americans eat out of the freezer section of the restaurant? Do you understand how expensive those meals can be? We normally make things from scratch....I’m sorry, but your video is just rude. Educate yourself

      M.C. P. , That’s like saying bread is Levantine origin so every bread dish is a knock off, or chicken/cattle/lamb dishes are Eurasian only because that’s the first place it was domesticated. Or even crazier wine is exclusively a drink from the caucuses because that’s where it originally was fermented, ignoring the fact that it became the most popular alcoholic drink throughout the entire Mediterranean. Chili peppers came from South America yet it’s a staple ingredient in India, half way across the world. Your argument holds no traction. Tea is from China yet the English, all of Eastern Asia, and India can’t live without it. Learn anthropology and evolution of foods via trade. Ohhh and we can’t forget about potatoes, which a blight wiped out a massive chunk of Ireland’s population. That’s a new world tuber Incase you were wondering. Tomatoes came from the new world too, so why should anyone who isn’t Nahuatl say that tomatoes mashed up in a sauce is Italian. again, look it up. By not researching your own stupid argument, it is YOU who is ignorant, not me. Google is your friend. Why don’t you give it a shot?

      What's your point though? I know lots of Italians who won't eat anything OTHER than Italian. They won't try Indian, Chinese, Middle Eastern or anything else for that matter. What does that tell you about them?
      I'm sorry but like any other cuisine in the world, if you use quality ingredients and serve up fresh dishes, Italian-American food is as good as anything out there. If you serve people frozen pizzas and spaghetti and meatballs out of can, they're going to have a bad day.
      One place in particular is the the Mulberry in Buffalo, New York in the Bethlehem Park area. Everything is scratch made including their exceptional mozzarella. I challenge any Italian from the motherland to try their food. I'd bet my house that they'd love it.
      Also, keep in mind that I have no skin in this game as I'm from Toronto, Canada, but I've visited the US and a lot of Europe on countless occasions so I feel like I have some idea as to what I'm talking about. Plus I'm half Italian so I've witnessed this attitude from a lot of the older generations in my family. Living in a city like Toronto -
      where I can get anything from Ethiopian to Sri Lankan - has allowed me to be introduced to some foods that I would easily take over a good bowl of pasta. Don't get me wrong; classic Italian dishes from my father's region are exceptional and some of my very favourites. But a good bowl of pho or ramen is absolutely divine and tough to beat in my eyes.

    • @alanpeterson4939
      @alanpeterson4939 6 років тому

      Just order one and share it then. Or just ask them for a half salad. Most places will be happy to do that for you. They serve large portions because customer satisfaction is the most important aspect of business. They never, ever want a customer to walk away thinking they paid too much for too little. You give the customer more than their money's worth because you want them to come back.
      Most Americans laugh when they see some high-priced restaurant put some thumb-sized piece of chicken, next to a baby carrot, drizzled with some yellow sauce, with a sprig of parsley on a plate for $50. It may look good, but the average Joe ain't paying for edible art when he sits down to eat.

I prefer mine because if the ° ° Italians are critical of the kitchen there will be a reason why there will be a reason if the USA wars and has been murdering for 230 years .. As an person who lived in Italy can proudly say that italians will offend almost everything that "is italian but not made by them". They take great pride in whatever they cook and they will reject so many times whatever they see because it's not made by an italian, even if it's crap. It's an shitty represantion of the true stuff happening. I have seen italians who did eat made by others non italian and didn't act like idiots. Sorry I respect Italy, love it's cuisine but this is an poor representation of the Italy

      that's the point. some of those dishes were created by some 2nd-3rd generation italo-american guy, for americans, and they call them 'italian' for commercial strategy. But there's nothing of italian in them.
      It's something like... i see your name is hans, so i assume probably you have german ancestors.
      So you move in new york or boston when you're 2 yo, and when you're 25 you start a restaurant where you serve bratwurst, weisswurst, pretzels...
      But pretzel are not with the same materials of german pretzels, wurstels are not with same meat proportion, you don't use german mustard, but ketchup, barbecue sauce... so you're not serving german cooking like they do in HB brewery in munchen. You're serving dishes who have the same shape of the true ones, but tailor-made for americans.
      It's not about being jealous of our food. it's just that this kind of video is a scam, a clickbait made of clicheès.
      I could do the same, being an italian, for japanese food here. I mean they call it sushi, ramen, uramaki, ecc ecc, but it'll never be like the one you eat in Tokyo. It just looks similar :)

      We don't offend anyone it's Just the truth, you add cheese to everything, bad quality pasta, and bad cook sauce, so if you don't know what is the italian food, make this food but don't call it "italian" cause it's not italian! Come in italy and try real pasta or pizza or spaghetti or lasagne or everything else, but don't cook "pizza with pineapple" and keep say "pizza" cause it's not!

    I'm Italian, and I lived for a long time in LA while i was in college, telling the truth I find unfair that this guy makes fun of the italian/american food pretending it's all bad,.
    I have to say that surely some of it it's not the healthiest stuff, neverthless, I got used to it once I started to live an ordinarly life in the US, and i liked it too.. (except macaroni and cheese ....besides not being italian at all, it's a really bad junk).
    It's a cheap shot if you give this food to old italian folks be cause you have a guaranteed result...which is a negative response.
    The reason is simple.....Italians are quite conservative in their feeding habits (indeed we like to eat well and our way), old italians are basically impossible to satisfy even if you bring them to the best restaurant in town... 60% of the times they might refuse just because they're not used to the taste at first glance, the other 40% is because of that silly italian proudness about the old "italians do it better" thing.
    In California I saw many things called Italian and cooked by vietnamese or mexicans...some stuff was really unknown to me, some tasted good....some was ridiculous even to look at... the bottom of the line is that we do really eat different, but doesn't necessarely mean all the italian/american food is crap (when cooked properly), we can get use to it....
    The stuff though must be cooked on demand...not for many like in the fast food restaurants ....otherwise chances are it won't be liked.

    My Mom's people were Swedish and German. She was excellent cook. I loved her spaghetti and meatballs but as a kid, you thankfully ate what was on your plate. Fresh garlic was an exotic ingredient, our grocery stores never stocked fresh mushrooms. Our pasta choices were spaghetti and macaroni, the latter of which I still can't look in the eye. Apart from meals and helping with the washing up, I was barely tolerated in her kitchen. If an Italian cook dared to venture in with alternative ideas, there would have been blood shed.

    Poche semplici regole per chi intende cimentarsi con la cucina italiana:
    1) è generalmente poco elaborata;
    2) è alla portata di tutti, (italiani e non);
    3) (il più importante) presuppone l'uso di prodotti freschi e di qualità.
    In merito alle pietanze del video credo che la vera impresa venga dopo averle mangiate e consiste nel riuscire a digerirle. Basta anche solo un'occhiata alle pizze per rendersi conto di quanto siano state infarcite e appesantite con ingredienti di dubbia qualità. Qualcuno ha detto: "siamo ciò che mangiamo", io aggiungo: "la salute prima di tutto". Se aveste fatto l'esperimento con un americano che vive in Italia anche solo da pochi mesi probabilmente vi avrebbe risposto come i signori del video che, oltretutto, sono una coppia di anziani siciliani (la cui cucina tradizionale è eccellente) e dei ristoratori: vogliamo conferire loro un premio al "coraggio nel ruolo di assaggiatori"?
