    For anyone interested, here's some info I found on the U8H. The unit reviewed here is actually the U8HQ, which comes with an ADS panel (think IPS) with around 160 dimming zones. Should be fine for everything except for dark room viewing. The US version comes with a VA panel with 3 times more dimming zones, which obviously is the better option. Some owners complain about blooming on this EU version as well as bad upscaling of lower resolution content.

      Thanks for sharing your findings and research. Although the UK tv is not as good as the US version, is this tv still a good buy compared to what's currently available in the UK?

      @@audi4581 Hey there, l'm in Bulgaria, so I don't know the prices of its competitors in the UK. I would consider the Samsung Q80b a direct competitor, which in BG costs 110 GBP more. It really depends on your needs. For me, the Hisense is a no-go as it's Vidaa system does not have HBO Max. If you don't need HBO Max and there is a significant difference in price compared to the Samsung, you can go for it I guess. You might also take a look at the Sony x90j, which has a VA panel and as a 2021 model might be on sale. For a little more, the LG C1 is even better with its Oled panel. I would factor in the warranties these companies offer in the UK as well. All the best!

      Hi Happy New year, may 2023 be a healthy, happy, and peaceful year for you.
      Sounds like you know a lot about TVs and have some great insights into the current models.
      Are mini LEDs and similar variations reliable? With so many variants, one wonders how the tv will perform after 3/4 years. I agree with the warranty, it's important to have with the new introduction of different tv technologies.
      Sony TVs are always a great choice but usually at a minimum 20% more expensive than the similar competitor TVs. The central tv stands look much better and take up less space. Many of the Sony models are more expensive and have individual legs for standing.
      Oled tvs look great, but with burn-in a potential issue, I would rather avoid in the first place and not purchase it. There is in-built technology, especially in newer models, but the potential is there for a burn-in.
      The Hisene looked like a good choice and the best of Samsung and Sony. This Hisense retails for approximately £900, as time passes the price should come down. However, the USA model is much better in terms of components and the final tv with the dimming zones. Most of the online reviews both videos and written are of the US model. This complicates things as I think the Uk version is an IPS panel and the Us a VA panel
      Thanks for your help any advice or models be appreciated ideally for less than £900.
      Thank YiouA

      omg, then I ordered the wrong TV for myself. i looked at lots of reviews for the U8H and then now noticed the stand looks different. It is shocking to me that such a big difference is not apparent in anywhere in the model number - Hisense's website and Takealot all just call it the U8H. I will ONLY be using it in a darkened room.

    Nice video. Too bad only 161 local dimming zone hurts this fine TV. With all of the mini led compare to regular local zone leds, you would need thousands of dimming zones to take advantage of the mini led full potential. Like handcuffing the unit when they could have made a run at the upcoming QOLED.

      I do agree that upping the dimming zones would have been so much better but again, Hisense wants this TV to be the most affordable Mini-LED on the market so they had to cut it down to hit that price tag. Hopefully, as the tech gets cheaper we will see these zones increase.

    PROCESSING QUESTION: Reviews and comments have said this Hisense TV looks great in "Native" 4K content; however, the "Processing" related to "Noise" from 1080p Blu-rays, 720p Cable TV, and 480p/480i DVDs is said to have problems compared to other TV sets. Is this true? How does the "Processing" of this TV compare to a $600 70" LG TV with Direct Lighting?

      I didn't notice major quality issues when watching 1080p content. UA-cam HD was a little mediocre and I think other TVs might handle upsacling resolution better than this Hisense one but isn't bad to the point where you should not consider this TV due to the HD upscaling.

This is supposedly ips panel in Europe and UK. So worse contrast better viewing angles. But the most important difference being something like 3-4 times less dimming zones. At this point I'm starting to question if this is at all comparable to US version. European version might look the part but is nerfed as f.ck

      As far as I know, Hisense is only changing some of the design elements and OS this year. The panel and general tech is the same. They did this because of how much heat they have received in the past for naming TV models the same but making them drastically different. So far out of the three models I reviewed here, they are identical in performance compared to the US models. Just a few design changes and of course VIDAA.

Because of the different mount, I'm not sure if they changed the speakers as well. This TV on this video has a attractive cloth speaker cover, which the US models seems to lack from other videos I have watched. I actually think this model in this video looks very attractive and better built than the US models. This is kind of disappointing as they are marketing this as Hisense's flagship TV. Hey,,that a few ppl complaint is because in business school we take Marketing (internationally in diff country how things are seen/marketed). In human natrual we can see things half empty or half full, n happily “waste our money” or angry even if its good deal. Like BMW3 operates like Honda Civic, even tho its not great ppl buy cuz we see it as Half full. But if its Elite Honda Acord with all d add ones but too PRICEY, we see it as “over priced” as half empty.
      So since a lot of ppl talking about US panels, we are NOT looking at this panel with fair eye .
      I have 2020 Hisense 86local dimming VA panel --55” ABSOLUTELY Stunning. Like yeah. 2020 Sony top seller H900X--600 peak nit, 24 Local dimming. I am NOT kidding. 24, not 240. N last year like A80J or something is like 34. (They hide d spects too on any sale site).
      QLED has 2 panels. Back panels controls Total Brightness, front panel controls color n Darkness. So even tho its ADs u can tweak it to perfection. ITS REALLY NICE> . Yes VA is maybe tinny tinny bit of more vivid. But like this is TOP the line ADS. 7
      2021 Samsung d FLAGSHIP ULED-ONLY 1 panel was VA, called QN90A. Runner up QLED was QN85A--IPS. Ppl buy it n so $$$$ n willing to pay for it, its they see it “half full” n happy about it. This panel performance is close. It might not need as much local dimming. (So the MAX peak nit it needs, the MORE local dimming u need. If its over 1000 its REALLY good . Its the sweet spot) a lot of tech nerds can get very Fixated on a spect.
      Just like buying car if we get 330hp Infiniti, we need elaborate break system. Its d cohesion. Like if 250hp still good, then d break doesnt need to be like extreme. Most time we dont drive at 330 peak.
      Hope this helps. Yeah…in psychology often we KNOW oh d U8H is much “better in USA”. Suddently we subject U8HQ as U8H . Its not same thing. In China U8H is like 240hz VA its like 3x UK price. It’s Insane $$$$. Lol i cant even get that one.
      That U8H n U8HQ are amazing panels judging Va or ADs both great. My friend got a U7H, in North America, he’s ultra happy about it lol.

      Hey no worries. I have had Hisense USA model flagship panel last 2 yrs. I have their H9G/Q9G at 1000 Nit brightness, 86 local dimming (for 55” it was enough. N same year competing SONY H900X was 24 pathetic local dimming ), and U8G at 1500 brightness , 360 local dimming. Both worked out fine. Just have to be fine tuned like first 1-2 days.
      Everyone’s eyes are diff subject to their own sensitivities. Some are more sensitive to bright some are to dark (she black/white dress, blue n gold dress situation).
      So this panel has 2 light options, most ppl will just go up the BRIGHTNESS setting. But we go to BackLight setting(for over all brightness n peek brightness) dim that,,,then go back to d Actual BRIGHTNESS at previous page (to up/down d dark color). Thats just what i have been doing it with Hisense, looks amazing.
      Most ppl gibing bad reviews often dont know how to tweak it. It’s worth it. Cuz every hisen panel i just do it like fluidly now. Its so easy.

    Hi, thanks for the great review mate.
     Not fully clued in on technical specs, I just bought this TV for a PS5, (for any one else I reckon Kloppers is running a great deal at the moment R17k for 55” and R24k for 65”).
    I know you don’t want to compare vs OLED but would you recommend a C1 (or C2) for a couple thousand more?
    And also which TV =>R20k would you recommend for PS5?

    • @GLITCHEDZA
      @GLITCHEDZA  Рік тому +2

      I personally would look at a Mini LED TV now that I have seen and reviewed this model tbh. While they obv can't hit the pure black levels of OLED, the brighter image and HDR content in gaming blew me away. So much so that I would now opt for Mini LED instead of OLED. Be that a C1 or C2. Then again, the OLEDs are great TVs. I just think brighter panels and higher peak HDR is more important than deeper blacks. I also don't like how limited OLED TVs are regarding brightness. Compared to this TV, they are dim.
      As for a TV under R20K. Check out Sony's Bravia 90J range. I think the 55" starts at R19,999. I own a X90H 65", Was R29,999 last year but I know the smaller ones are under R20. They are great TVs, Decent, local dimming, 4K120Hz, Android TV etc.

      @@onewheelersa8450 I actually have a Sony X90H and absolutely love it. But at the same time, I feel like Mini-LED is the future and has some incredible advantages over Full Array LED TVs (like the X90J). Especially the brightness. It is a tough one because Sony TVs are so good and they are calibrated perfectly. But this U8H will definitely produce double the brightness. It doesn't have as good dimming as the Bravia though so you'll get more bloom on dark content.
      If you want a much brighter image and you enjoy HDR content and want that to look better, the U8H is the answer. But if you're worried about bloom and are brand-specific, Sony is the one. I personally would do the U8H because after seeing the brightness, I would love to see it everyday in games I play and stuff I watch. I just wish it had Android TV like the Bravia :(

      Yes a very big difference. This TV uses Mini LED tech which is new. So the panel is incredibly bright and has much darker blacks. Tough to compare the U6H to this U8H coz they are so different. The U8H is of course, a lot better in so many ways thanks to the Mini-LED.

    Is this the same tv as the US version? In the UK they claim 1300 nits but in the US 1500 nits which suggests we are not getting the US version in Europe/Rest of the World.

    • @GLITCHEDZA
      @GLITCHEDZA  2 роки тому

      Well the "claim" of nits isn't really something that you can say "the TV is different in each country". As far as I am aware, even the US versions are reading the same 100% peak brightness nits as my model too. So it seems that the brightness is the same across the board. Multiple reviews I have seen test just under 1000 nits on 100% window. If the US model was "better" in brightness, it would be over 1000.

      @@flaw3dgenius222 I really do think so. So Hisense got into a lot of trouble last year for shipping TVs in different regions with very different specs while calling them the same model. This year they had to streamline the range. From what I have seen, the U8H from US reviewers performs the same. Even the amount of blooming on areas is the same on my model I tested. Perhaps there are a few minor differences in performance and drastic differences in the design but they are very much the same technically.

    we have this same tv in australia, but for some absurd reason, the mounting base is completely different. Instead of a central mounting base it has two prongs on each corner, meaning you need a far wider entertainment unit to be able to mount it. Im wanting to get the 65 inch model of this tv, and that wouldnt be a problem if the base was like this, but because it isnt in aus, id also have to buy a new entertainment unit. And this is the same for ALL hisense tvs sold in aus.

      Haha! It is so strange they decided to go with different stands in different regions. I personally preferred the two legs as you could put them in different spots to suit the TV stand. However, I am currently reviewing one of their soundbars and it is huge. It doesn't fit in between the legs so it would be better to have a single stand. I guess there will be people to both hate and love the two different stands.

    • @GLITCHEDZA
      @GLITCHEDZA  2 роки тому

      I don't think it will ever be fixed. This is a technical limitation that has to do with the panel on the TV itself. All LED panels have this issue. The tech doesn't allow the LEDs to handle dimming while managing the refresh rate at the same time. Well, as far as I know it is not possible with the tech at this time. Even Sony's Mini-LED and LED range disables local dimming when turning on VRR.

      @@GLITCHEDZA Sony recently put out an update that fixes the local dimming disabling with vrr turned on. So that’s fixed now on their TV’s.
      On this U8H are you saying that local dimming gets disabled when using freesync only or it gets disabled with both vrr and freesync when they’re turned on?
      I’ve seen others on Reddit say that vrr and local dimming works on their TV’s.

    • @GLITCHEDZA
      @GLITCHEDZA  2 роки тому

      @@stoksyXL So it definitely was disabled on my model when I turned on VRR. However, originally the setting was still enabled when VRR was on and I could toggle stuff but the dimming never actually changed. Hisense then sent me a firmware which I think hasn't been released to the public yet. This firmware blanked out the local dimming setting with VRR. I think they don't want people to think VRR works with local dimming by leaving the settings open. The new firmware locks the setting to make it clear that it doesn't work when VRR is on.
      Also, the local dimming turns off for both VRR and FreeSync. In fact, the FreeSync setting is the VRR one. Works for VRR on PS5 and FreeSync on Xbox.
      What I think is happening on Reddit is that users think VRR and local dimming is working but the TV isn't actually changing anything. The new update will turn the setting off instead to clear confusion.
