I have had my Novation Launchkey for 6 months and your video was the first one that actually walked me through the process. Thank you very much! Subbed!
Wow... Josh... A long wait... Finally! No one explains this topic such clear/detail as you 😃👏 Appreciate! ** How to assign: 1» EQ Parameters 2» DIM (D) on Master Track 3» Other Plug-in's Parameters
YEP, THANK YOU ! your reputation for clear concise explanations is WELL DESERVED ! You showing the occasional glitches is REALLY HELPFUL as well. Heroic!
I'm embarrassed to say its taken me about ten years to figure this out, being totally un-techie, watching this just now, hey presto it works, thank you so much!
Thank you - very helpful for the "basic" side of MIDI controlling that I still haven't got my head round till now despite having used Logic Pro for 12 years! Taking the time to watch your video made it a whole lot clearer.
Excellent. I just set up a Novation Launchkey 49 and used the HUI surface controllers in Logic's midi setup menu.. Most functions worked out the box, but this will help get the other buttons programmed and fine tune the functions. Thanks chap!
That was amazing. I tried setting it up before from watching another youtube video. They never explained everything in detail like this. It was always messing up. Now i know why. Thanks for making this video.
Thank you so much! This seem to be one of the best videos that wonderfully explains in detail how to set up control surface in "learn mode". I recently purchased a Korg nanoKontrol2, and struggling to get a decent source to set it up properly to control my Logic tracks. This video comes as a saviour for me, and am pretty hopeful of being able to set it up properly using this video as my guide. Thanks once more!
Finally set up my Launchkey 25. I actually found a used one on Amazon or Facebook Marketplace or something. I needed a dedicated, backpack-sized midi keyboard and actually found this video right after you dropped it. Almost got the MPK, but I figured I'd get the tutorial guy's controller lol. Thanks a bunch!
You are the best! I always end up checking your videos no matter where I try to find a tutorial. In the end, you have done the one I was looking for, simply and effective. Thank youuuu
Lovely video. I have had Novation launch key for a few years now and should have checked this video long back. But this is an eye opener in terms of how to actually use the Launch key. Thanks mate.
Thank you! Anyone with a Morningstar controller, if Logic stops seeing the controller, go to Control surfaces > Controller Assignment and then close it. Don't know why but it works after that.
This we so super helpful thanks! I have an old M-audio Keystation Pro 88 I was thinking was needing to be retired but now it's controlling logic 10.5 for me. Nice one!
You wonderful Rascal. God love you for these videos. You are doing a great job with your content and I hope that you grow much more! The detail that you get into it…. It’s better than any other videos of it’s style for sure. Learning everything I need to know about making music and it helps a lot!
This was the best, was able to follow along setting up my Alesis VI25 Midi controller. I would also liked to also see Vertical toggling Zoom In/Out and Horizontal Toggling Zoom In/Out
Hi Josh, thank you so much for this. This video really helped me setup my MIDI controller, I would have otherwise remained perplexed for a long time. Thanks again!
Is there a way to save templates for midi mapping? I'd love it if I could set up for a template for mixing, and another template for orchestral composing in Logic
Is that not possible? Cause I’d love to know too. Aaron C above was also asking about opening and using EQ with the same controller. I wonder if logic remote or something like touch OSC could work.
Really helpful - thanks. It would be great to see how you deal with using multiple controllers to control multiple controls. For example using the set up in this video for general daw controls, and then another control surface to control synth controls (or perhaps separate CC's like expression etc). I struggle with encountering lots of conflicts when attempting to do this and currently experimenting with midi channels. How do you do it?
Hey man, did you find a solution? I have a midi controller assigned to multiple channels so I can automate more than one at the same time, but it only seems that I can automate the selected channel!! Is there a setting?
@@NickQuinn1986 unfortunately it didn't work so well on my set up. I have a platform m+ that proved tricky to program. I ended up using BOME midi translator to get the controls I wanted - highly recommended if you're struggling.
Brilliant video! Thanks. One question - when I map the AUX SEND 1 to a knob it keeps bringing up the Controller Assignments window. Any idea how to stop that?
Fantastic video instructions. Would be great to learn same by using a LaunchControl XL with the individual channel strips. Can't figure out how to set all of that up.
thank you thank you thank you!!!! I think of myself as technically knowledgable and usually figure things out BUT being a newbie with logic and getting a Akai mpk 225 midi thought it would be easy peazey tp just plug the controller into my Mac and sail away. the module has a hot key for logic but did nothing..... just started reading Logic Pro from David nahmani and maybe my answers were somewhere in one of his chapters....but YOU just made this very, very easy....THANK YOU !!!
Great vid as always! But like you said I also have a dedicated control surface at the studio and recently purchased a NI M32 for home use... So I set up the M32 knobs to be used for the Smart Controls but...when I get back to the studio and use the surface I have there, which is a Novation Zero SLmkii the the knobs I had controlling the Smart controls no longer work. In the Controller Assignment window both controllers appear in the drop down... I can't figure this out. If only you could save Controller Assignments on a per project basis or is there something I'm missing? Thoughts?
Good stuff. Thank you. Can one save multiple custom assignments for multiple controllers and use them at the same time? Like what if I want to use an older controller for just synth parameters and a newer controller for transport control and mixing.
thank you for sharing. Two more questions: is it possible to assign a rotary knob to forwind/rewind (when the knob is clockwise/counterclockwise turned)? Is it possible to assign a rotary knob to adjust the value of any software plugin knob where the cursor is floating on (by default, the mouse mid position sweep is used for this purpose)?
PLEASE ANSWER THIS QUESTION MEISTRO. I've tried doing something similar with Blueboard (midi foot controller) but don't know how to call up the assignments again. it doesnt' seem to work for me.
This is great. What if I want one knob to effect 2 automation or midi parameters at once. I.E. I have a narrow band EQ on a drum bus, and I want to turn a knob and have a LP filter work it’s way up from 600hz and a HP filter work it’s way down from 400hz to open up the sound. Both at the same time controlled by one knob.
I'm still waiting for the video on setting up a control surface or larger midi keyboard/control surface like the mpk249 or nektar impact 61! I've come back to this video 10x for different things, normally finding a way to figure it out from here!

WORD. I feel this way about all of your videos. You are helping me realize a dream of mine. TY!
I've watched several videos on this and couldnt get it. Never underestimate what a quality video can do for learning! Thanks!!
I love my launchkey 25 and now even more. I binge on all your videos, you do excellent work. Thanks so much. Your channel is better than Netflix 😊
After a day of head wrecking minimal info from akai and logic you've made the best explanation I could find. Thank you!

Best video I've found for Logic X control assignments - thank you!
Just recently purchased the Launchkey MK3. As always you're my go to channel for information on LPX. Thanks!
Thank you so much! For someone just starting to use Logic for the first time, your videos are amazing!

Wonderful, thank you so much, perfectly explained, I've just used this to map my LPD8 to 10.5 to make it a live looping tool! It's so much fun!
This was on point!! Thanks for taking the time to do this video!
If you want to directly set the control (and not catching up as mentioned in 5:35) -> Check the "Local Feedback (Fader/Knob)" option
Under which menu?
@@kannonprice3521 Controller assignment parameter - under Value - below text feedback (checkbox)
Superb video....concise to the point and clear instruction ♥️
Great video. I always wondered why the record and play buttons on my midi controller didn't work with Logic. Thank you for this!
Very interesting indeed... might need to watch it more than once for all the info to sink in!
You and Logic are best.
well: truly a great explanation on how to set MIDI device in functional operation Best Regards

Excellent job as always.
Thank you for all you do to help us.
Thank you 🙏 for your awesome videos as always full of great tips. Have a awesome holiday season stay safe
I would say this is the first tutorial that helped.
Excellent! Thank you. How do I save this settings so not having to repeat the process every time ?
YES YES YES, JUST THE VIDEO I WAS LOOKING FOR. THANKS A LOT.
