- The Knobs in Arturia Minilab mkII work flawlessly with Analog Lab , But if you Auto Assign Logic's smart control script then they are prioritised instead of Default Arturia minilab mkII mapping. Thats the reason why encoders don't give a desired smooth operation.
In this video i explain how to make the best of Arturia Minilab mkII Default controller setup. So that later when we come to Live Loop grid control with knobs and pads there are no setbacks.

Hey, thanks for the tutorial, that really helped. However, what do I do if I also want to control the parameters of another plugin like alchemy for example.When I assigned all the knobs to the parameters in alchemy I have the same problem with Analog Lab again. The Knobs don't control the parameters in Analog Lab anymore and when I assign them to the parameters they are very jumpy. Can you help me with this problem? It would be nice if you could make a video on it since there is nothing about it on youtube yet.
Yes will do a small vid on that for sure. You have made 2 different master mappings on the same midi channel. Will explain soon.

Although mk 2 doesn't have dedicated play pause record buttons , you can see pad scroll midi mapping as in that vid i explain mapping different functions .
I used the Grid view but you can be in the Linear view , press space bar to play then press cmd L , and hit your desired pad to control play stop , and record.

Thanks Nikhil, For analog lab V, please check LPX Plugin Manager and if Analog Lab V is successfully validated. Otherwise reinstall the plugin and check.

I encountered a problem while setting the controller up, which is that it does not show in the expert view in logic when I press command+L. 1- Reset your Arturia minilab mkii

Then disconnect minilab
2- it's a mac so go to macs audio midi setup app
press cmd+2
in the midi devices
Find arturia minilab and delete it by pressing ' - ' button on top.
Now connect back minilab
and then open logic
Preferences
( you might want to delete your logic preferences maybe something went wrong somewhere- you;ll have to reinitiate preferences , that way it'll be clean)
For that theres an option in Logic preferences called
'Reset all preferences except key commands'
control surface deselect minilab
but
keep arturia minilab checked in midi devices.
That should help , otherwise email me i'll try to debug.

I followed all of them through, however, I still find problems with the expert view, and also not been able to let all pads show their colour at the same time as you did in the tutorial. Hi! I've unchecked the button, and my knobs still don't turn Logic Pro stock plug ins, or Analog Lab IV. Logic Pro recognizes my Arturia Minilab mkII, I can play the keys, but nothing with the knobs. Any ideas?
Hey ! Seems unusual ! Watch my other video on minilab factory reset and firmware upgrade or maybe you are making it on a different channel , i would say reinitialize Logic remove Minilab from midi devices and start again .

Hey, thanks for your explanation. There's a strange thing here in my logic, it does not show the Minilab MkII in the list of midi devices in logic. However it does work, but I can not see or edit the mappings or whatever. Midi control center is installed and I can configure it there, what am I missing here?
Hey see my firmware update and factory reset video, and also reset Logic Preferences from the menu.

Thanks Steve, of course you'll be able to, just make sure to handle any plugin macro parameter you have to set that encoder to Absolute value in Midi Control Center. Cheers
I Just purchased Minilab Mk2. I noticed that it doesn't receive midi feedback.
For example: when I assign a drum pad to control a channel On/Off in Logic Pro, if I use the mouse to control the same parameter it doesn't reflect on MiniLab.
Is there a way to make this work differently?

Hi , you can try this
you have to do 2 things
1- Change the Pad option in Midi Control Center to Toggle instead of Gate . keep the mode to switched control.
or
Change Mode of that particular mapping
in Logic's controller assignment
'option+Shift+k' [expert view]
You can do Mode - Toggle or Rotate how ever you desire.

Hey Akshay , Thanks , and i am glad the video was helpful ,
In order to choose a Controller you need to do a bit of research on what suits your workflow ,
First of all do you want a grid based or key based controller.
And you have to see what you are getting along with the device ,
Like i am heavily invested in emulation based synths provided by Arturia , and as it was my go to so the choice was obvious.
If you want to work with Native Instruments ,and Kontakt Libs , The NI would suit you best .
If it's about portability then Akai .
If grid or key based then Novation Launchpad since it works well with Logic's Grid based workflow.
I find Arturia more useful for me cause i already own the v collection , and i like keyboards. And the company is focussed at constantly releasing fantastic hardware and software.

Hi:) i followed the steps to turn off the auto/smart controls but I'm still having the same problem in logic. When I use the standalone amolog lab it works perfectly and the knobs are mapped. If I use it in logic not all the knobs are working and they are jumpy and in different order. Is there some other solution to this problem?
Hi , mmmm that’s strange , you can check if there’s any Minilab profile saved in your controller preferences , delete that and delete your existing minilab midi devices from audio midi devices , seems you had two duplicate devices on the system, one has to b probe more , ping me if you don’t figure it out , this method is universal and worked for many musicians.
great stuff man that fixed one issue but I am having a few problems with my Arturia keylab 49 in logic...the keys work but the stop play etc buttons do not...do you know how to fix this?? any help would be much appreciated thanks man
Thanks Wardy, glad it worked . Hey man, it's not working for me, I'm going crazy!! I unchecked the box but the controls keep being the same. Most of em don't work and the couple that work only do master volume, cutoff and maybe time or resonance depending on the synth. Any help for a software noob?

Thanks for this. Is there any way to get the keyboard to work with both Analog Lab and Logic Pro Smart Control, as I use both. Another way of asking the same question… if I follow your instructions here and set it up for Analog Lab, in that case, what is the best way to also use it with Logic Pro for all the Logic instruments. Should I do it manually for each instrument inside Logic Pro. Or some other way. Thanks.

It is possible :)
- You need to open key commands 'option+k'
- In the search bar type
' Toggle bypass all control surfaces'
- Give it a keyboard shortcut command (command +shift+C) i had that command free.
or assign it to a midi pad , i would assign it to
Minilab Preset 1 (default analog lab)
Shift+Knob 1 click button.
Now within your Control surface Preferences you can have Arturia checkbox selected.
So whenever you want to use Analog lab you just hit the shortcut combo to bypass control surface. And switch it back as you desire.

@@ipsinghification Thanks for the reply! :) If I understand correctly we are creating a shortcut to bypass all control surfaces. When we run that shortcut, we toggle to Logic. I am wondering... when we toggle to Logic do we use Logic's auto mapping. And if we are doing that during initial set up, which one do we set up first, Analog Lab or Logic Auto map. Or does it not matter.
@@accentontheoff in theory it doesn't matter if you do it after the initial setup. when you bypass the Logic s control surface script then analog lab will Work as intended.
keep in mind that if you want to map things according to your own way then logic s auto assign will not be helpful , then you are better off mapping on different channels of minilab instead of logics auto assign.
Also if you edit any mapping within Logics auto assign them Logic will create an alias of edited map in control shortcuts . you'll have to try it on your system to know how it works.

Mine doesnt work, it just works with the first 8 knobs but it doesnt work with 9-16 (it does work in analog lab without logic). Maybe its an update on logic 10.6.1

Hey, technically it can't be due to the LPX update, it's a very specific problem, and i won't be able to assess as i am using Mojave so no LPX 10.6.1 could you send some pics of video i might be able to help.

Maybe, update the Firmware, factory reset, delete old mapping if done in Logic. I have made other videos, check them out.

I don't know how you have set up your midi devices .
Try
1- Disconnect all usb connections and In your MAC go to your factory "Audio Midi Setup" App
Click on "Window"
Now check if you have any duplicate "Arturia MiniLab mkII" devices.
Or just to rectify i would Delete everything apart from "IAC Driver" , To delete select the device and press delete.
2- In Logic - Go to Control Surfaces > Preferences and delete Arturia Minilab mk II
Quit Logic
Now reattach Minilab mkII to your system and check.

Hey thanks, there can be many reasons,
0- check your midi cable and usb port.
1- check your midi setup in audio midi.
2- does it work in standalone, if yes check preferences in LPX
3-Does midi control center see your minilab mk ll?

@@ipsinghification Hi bro, it's recognized but although I can only play around with the knobs of the analog mini lab audio unit in Logic Pro X as well as all the Arturia products I got in Logic Pro X.
It won't recognize the minilab itself at all in Logic Pro X in order to follow your instructions and control the knobs of any other plugin (Audio Unit).
Cause the other plugins like the classic Logic Organ Piano for example can't be controlled.
I'll appreciate it if you have any thoughts on how to fix it.

for controlling another logic instrument controls use another midi channel on minilab by pressing shift+ Pad 2 -7.

Yes ofcourse it will. you'll have to do your own Pro Tools midi mapping for workflow enhancements.
Analog lab will work without any problem.

@@emmajane6393 head over to Arturia official website and register your product. Then from the site itself you'll get Analog lab lite as your freebie. And install it you need to mainly install. Aax branch of the plugin since you are using Pro Tools.
For updating your keyboard you'll also need Midi Control Center.
I do not use Pro tools so i can't give you proper troubleshooting instructions. But it is fairly easy. All the best thanks.

Mmmm need more details , what audio interface are you using ? Which daw ? Which OS ? What else is connected , how many devices ? Powered hub is essential anyways ! Need to understand what you mean by glitches send a video of what happens and your setup will sort it out for you ! Cheers

@@greghillmusic Bro seems your interface is wonky try some other interface, buy a new one or troubleshoot at a friend , last hope would be to reload update scarlet firmware , delete everything to do with focusrite scarlet in your audio midi devices on mac , use findanyfile to delete old kext files associated with scarlet interface , happy hunting 👍🏻

Hi SidB : Technically The Arturia Analog lab will work without any setbacks along with Garageband Smart controls. There is no conflict.
Garageband does not give you that setting in the preferences (It has limited things that you can tweak) as the control surface setting is not listed , in Garageband you can't customize a lot of Midi Maps, because by default Garage will reset the "com.apple.garageband10.cs" preferences on each Garageband restart . Hope this helps

- Assuming you have worked on Garageband and you are now familiar with that workflow, if you like that workflow then Logic is the way to go.
- In terms of Cost Logic Pro is a winner , 300$ vs 649$ , and if you get ableton you'll be wanting Push 2 , maybe Push 3 will be out soon. And those Push devices are expensive Extra but essential part of Ableton Live game.
-Ableton is Sorted for Making songs and playing that Live , And there are many controller devices to help you Record and Perform.
Live is a winner for Live Performance where Logic's Live Performance Grid is in it's nascent stage.
- Logic Pro x 10.5 with it's new Live Loop Grid mode Gives you Record and perform and infact some new amazing sequencing power now. and I see that in the near future Live loop Grid mode will get much better. And more Hardware will arrive.
But i have seen High CPU usage on both while using some 3rd party Instrument plugins, anyway for live you would want to limit you live instruments and have stems in audio , instead of midi .
Use the plugins given by your DAW.
this domain is a different stage of discussion. you get better at troubleshooting after spending time.
- One very Important thing : If you are a forever mac person than Logic makes sense , but if you Hop to Windows then Ableton , because Ableton is Cross Platform and LPX is only mac as of now.
You have to Try both to see your 'First Love' factor ;)
I use Logic Pro X - Reaper - Ableton Live . (In That Order)

It s a tradeoff , you have less knobs but a lot of new features but you can always make user presets for 8 knobs and 4 faders , and minilab already has a script for Logic , midi modes are universal for absolute and relative , you gotta try it to see what works best for your workflow 😊🙏🏻
