Great jazz funk fusion choice, Casiopea is a very prolific Japanese band and excellent musicians, very musical. But they have also a lot of fast rate groovy songs. I remember it wasn't so easy at the time to get in hand their records available, there were expensive imports. Check the title "Midnight rendez vous" from the Mint jam recording in 1982. Best!

This makes me think of a mix of Henry Mancini and Spyro Gyra. Nice stuff!!!!!!!!!!! If Tower Records was still in existence I would probably have a few of their CDs in my hands. Beautiful!! Beautiful!! I think I have a hankering for violinists though - so I'll suggest one more: Noel Pointer "Night Song."

Yess, I have been looking for Casiopea reactions but there weren't that many. Glad this video got recommended on my homepage. I only discovered the band halfway through this year and I am so happy I came across their music. This song is from their debut album like you said which I highly recommend, it's 8 songs and 36 minutes. So far I have only heard their first 6 or 7 albums which are all good but the debut album stands out for me!! Another album I would recommend from a different japanese artist is the rainbow goblins by Masayoshi Takanaka, it's a really fun experience 😁

Another new artist surprise! I’ve never heard of them before but really enjoyed this. I do get Pat Metheny and Spyro Gyra vibes. A real popular Spyro Gyra song is “Morning Dance”. It has great “Island vibes” to it…. I think you’d like it as well.

Magnificent jazz fusion!!! I didn't know this band, a great discovery for me. If you want to continue your exploration of Japanese production, I suggest the very astonishing female instrumental progressive rock trio: ARS NOVA. High-level musicians and composers. Omnipresence of the keyboard; in short, you should be satisfied. A sound and orchestration reminiscent of Rick Wakeman, King Crimson and Triumvirat. My three favorite compositions:
    1. "Prominence" (from the album 'Fear And Anxiety', 1992)
    2. "Morgan" (from the album 'The Goddess Of Darkness', 1996)
    3. "Field Of Iaru" (from the album 'The Book Of The Dead', 1998)
    Thanks, Brandon.

Yes!! Thanks for checking the song out. They appear to have a huge discography. Thanks for the suggestion. Sadly Ars Nova gets next to no views on Spotify. I'm finding that many amazing musicians have little to no popularity online when they well deserve it..

@@retroreactions.... Alas! Additional reason (if one were needed) to venture outside of agreed platforms, such as Spotify, whose statistics too often only reveal the narrowness of a popular normality and which, consequently, encourage more confinement than 'to openness, to the same as to the other, to here as to elsewhere, to conservatism as to discovery.

Tantalizing. Almost, but not quite, too smooth...which is what you want in this genre. Yet another artist I need to investigate

If you're after more Japanese artists, can I recommend Anthem and The Seatbelts. Anthem is a heavy metal band with a rich discography from the eighties to now. The Seatbelts were a jazz blues band put together by composer Yoko Kanno for the anime Cowboy Beebop. Cowboy Beebop came out in 1998, so it just squeezes into the retro zone! Alas the movie came out in 2001. If ya willing to maybe bend the rules a little bit, I highly recommend the closing track to the movie 'Gotta Knock a Little Harder'

Yes, really loved this one! Pat vibes for sure. I'm pretty sure she's never heard of Pat. She's only 17 and I think she only knows Casiopea since she loves all things Japanese. Thanks for listening to this one and for being first! 🥇
