Ningen Isu has been around long enough to release 23 studio albums (more than 30 years). Certainly proggy at times, they are more often referred to as the Japanese Black Sabbath. Their song Heartless Scat is the most watched (and reacted) video of theirs, and helped level up interest internationally. Other songs that are good options early in the journey would be Namahage and The Colour Out of Space.

Ningen Isu (Japanese: 人間椅子, Hepburn: Ningen Isu, lit. "The Human Chair") is a Japanese heavy metal/doom metal band formed in Hirosaki in 1987. The band's current line-up consists of co-founders Shinji Wajima (guitar, vocals) and Ken-ichi Suzuki (bass, vocals) alongside Nobu Nakajima (drums, vocals), who joined in 2004. All three members contribute to the songwriting process. They have been noted for their stage personas, with Wajima dressing as a Meiji-era literary master, Suzuki dressing as a Buddhist monk, and Nakajima dressing as a Yakuza-style gangster

I love this band too. Like you said, old school progressive, old school rock. Named for a short story; from Wikipedia: _"The Human Chair" (人間椅子, Ningen-isu) is a short story by Japanese author and critic Edogawa Ranpo. I agree. WAY too much yapping during the song & during the breaks... we can read & see it as well, & you broke the DON"T talk during the solo, Probably the most annoying reaction I've ever seen!!!
