@CC C all you need is a 3/8 breaker bar. You do not need a socket just stick the breaker bar into the plug. The pole is the handle of the jack. You do not need this but it makes it easier to loosen the plug. You'll need about 1.5 Quart's of fluid.
Should you bleed the system, top off the fluid, before tightening the fill plug? Is the bleed procedure to run engine in Park for about 1 minute, similar to Pilot? Was wondering if the HR-V has a rear differential pump?
The HRV doesn't have a pump at the differential so we do not have to run it through the gears just drain and fill. It's best to remove the fill plug before the drain plug because you don't want to find out you can't fill it up after you drained it.
@@diydad2 ; Thanks DIY Dad, great video and great information, our 2016 Pilot has the i-VTM system so it is different from the ICS system. Thank again for the reply; we just got a 2020 HR-V, and the first rear differential change is around 24,000 km (15,000 miles); which for us old 4wd guys seems ridiculous but these differentials are NOT you Dad's differentials. Cheers - Looking forward to your CVT fluid change.
hi could you tell me how often do you change rear differential fluid, my honda hrv 2019 and has 14000 miles on it, and maintenance minder shows 6 which means i have to replace rear differential fluid, and i am worrying is that something wrong the car has only 14000 miles on it, and i was reading that you have to change rear differential fluid between 30000 miles and 50 000 but not definitely 14000 miles does it seem strange to you?
Yes, that is totally normal. The first change comes early at around 15k. After that you should change it every 30k as preventative maintenance. There is nothing wrong with the vehicle this is just the "break in" period.
Hello, The part number is Honda 08200-9007 . Everywhere I read said to only use Honda fluid. I'm not sure what the viscosity is as I didn't see it on the bottle.
Its a great pro tip to start with the fill plug because if you drain first and the fill plug is stuck your SOL
Thanks for the video! I was able to change my differential fluid in 30 min with no problem and saved myself $70!
Awesome! That's what it's all about.

Clean, well lighted video. Thank you!
Thank you that was very short, concise and helpful
I had the same vehicle and wish you can do more videos on this car. Thanks for sharing.
What would you like to see?
@@diydad2 How about doing regular maintenance checks based on the vehicle handbook, including check the strux and ball join under the car?
Thanks for this, it would be great when you do the brakes post of video of that process.
Great video! Can you make a video of cvt fluid change and transfer case fluid when you have to change it. Thank you, this was very helpful.
I will once I do it again, I did it on the same day but didn't think to record until after I was done.
Im late to the party but Do you jack the car from the rear or like normal as if you were doing a tire change ..

and also do you use new drain plug washer and new fill plug washer?

Are you brave enough to tackle the CVT transmission oil change?
I did the transmission on the same day but I didn't think to record it until After I was done.
is the fill and Drain plug the same Torque Specification of 35 Ft/LB ?
Correct
Are there any filters to change
thaks so much, could ask you wich tipe of liquide ?
Hello, it is listed in the beginning of the video. I used Honda fluid.
Is there a front differential in this hrv?
Hi, whats the oil viscosity grade for HRV diff? Thanks.

@@diydad2 Thanks , My wife went on dealer, she got the oil and metal oring. Will do the fluid change today. Thanks for the tips. Have a great day!
I guess the same goes for my AWD 07 Honda fit!
What year is the hrv that you are servicing in this video?
2016
Awesome! Thank you! And merry Christmas!
Where do I get that pump at.
You can buy them almost anywhere, look for "fluid transfer pump".
Thanks very much, Dad! Was it 2 quarts of fluid you needed?
Yes, it takes about 1.5 bottles.
You said it’s 60k miles, do you change the train fluids yet?
Yes, I have changed the transmission fluid. I did it all on the same day but I did not think to film it until I was done.
How many miles on it?
I currently have 60k on it. There is a chart on how often this service should be done. After the break in I believe its every 30k.
