AR 600-85 Covers ASAP....This scenario is the same scenario I went through but mine was a promotion board and my board was a field board. I was notified 8hrs before the actual promotion board started. hilariously enough I scored 141 points out of 150 points (this was prior to the promotion point removal) and no one from my chain of command sponsored me. I had a scout platoon sergeant escort me in. When I got pinned, the platoon thought they were going to be recognized for sending me when I thanked that scout platoon sergeant. everyone's jaw dropped that a tanker was escorted by a scout....gotta love the CAV.
I know this story. We got called out at 0300 hrs for a roll out alert. We finally made it back to post, through the wash rack and were in the MP doing recovery when my PSG walked by and said I needed to go to S-1 for a records check. When I got to Battalion HQ I was told the records clerk was out busy and to have a seat, he would be back shortly. Half an hour later the clerk came back and said I had missed the board. ?? What board, I was there for a records check. He said be back tomorrow morning in Class A's, the E5 board would be reconvened for the CSC that had rolled out that morning! I ended up with 145 points and one of the guys from mortars platoon got a perfect 150!
No lie, our battalion needed a soldier for some soldier of the quarter board….There were no takers so they sent this PFC who never went to a board. I asked him how it went, he said he walked in the board and just stood there staring at the CSM’s and 1SG’s on the board, did not salute or stand at attention. The CSM told him to get the … out, that was his board experience.
And don't you dare tell the truth about how he was an alcoholic and dealt with infidelity issues. A buddy of mine mentioned this and was kicked out of the board.
It was annoying every day to see the image of Audie Murphy. But it was interesting to find out how many MOH recipients there are that once served in the 15th Infantry. "Can Do!" 1-15 Mech Infantry

Yup, similar here. I won a Soldier of the Month Board, next month? "Oh hey.... Yeah, all the other Soldiers who won have either left or gotten in trouble, so you're going to the Soldier of the Year Competition! This will be such a great opportunity for you!" Some of those guys had been training full time for months, as in studying was their job, and even given tutors... I hadn't even USED a pistol or shotgun until that competition. I had a week to prepare and couldn't even get out of CQ duty. God, I hated my chain of command for that.
Hilarious. Doesn't surprise me with today's army to send a private to an All Army NCO competition board. Wearing a color unit patch on his OCPs with a 1ST ID combat patch and CIB. probably was an E4 Promotable that got busted for DUI and fail to enroll in the ASAP. The bible did have a lot of battles the Army can reflect on such as the battle between David and Goliath. LOL.
