I listen while going to sleep. I know it’s a fabulous book whenever I find myself staying awake seeing the sunrise. Thank you very much for this wonderful story. ❤
This is a breath of fresh air, especially when I get to thinking the world has gone crazy. The grace and kindness of Stephen Fry really shine here amidst these tales of virtue and depravity. I'm very grateful.
🌞our souls chose this planet, so they knew that they could cope with everything! yeah we should pray for the Buddha not to leave Sansara circle.. anyway we need to bring more light to here. to connect with own spirits - mission of everyone on this planet.
This is fucking gold. I was searching for this a one and half years earlier, I hardly found, I'm happy that it is easily available now for everyone else
This is my favorite audiobook I've listened to out of many and the most entertaining and informative and historically exciting narrative of myth and Men.
At age 7, my grandmother's Xmas present to me was a children's illustrated book about the Trojan war and the Odyssey. For years those images have lingered in my mind, but this amazing tex,t which reads like a novel, fills in volumes of what I never knew. We're marvelous if too often horrific creatures, we humans.
Of all the people to be marooned on a desert island with, Stephen Fry would be perfect. Aside from his inevitable knowledge of the flora and fauna, the conversations around the camp fire would be so elevating as to make the time fly by.
I'm Irish but i love Stephen,n im sure the rest of the island does too,i bought n read all his mythology books n now listening to this for the third time since discovering audiobooks for free
I have read every book in the house.... Aargh and no movie or article took my interest. I have always been a great fan of Stephen Fry, from Jeeves to QI, and so it was an easy choice when this popped up in front of me. What a pleasure, historic myths written and read by the same. Lovely. I have hours of listening to go and am enjoying it thoroughly. Thank you!
Yes, Stephen Fry’s narration knocked me out to sleep every time within 10 minutes. I’m probably about three months into this book, but it does make me go to sleep, better than any pharmaceutical drug great cure for an insomniac.
I put audios on a lot of nights. Best way to sleep. Every time I wake up I hear another exciting g part of the story lol. I will listen to him in the day time too now😊.
The new renaissance man .the perfect person to raise a wry plosive when an act of renaissance occurs as natural as rain .often ignored in other places and times...as it was so its become again....nice to hear all that homoeroticism that fell away return again without predjudice.
this has been and is supreme enjoyment !! absolutely good time spent in listening, and good time spent in the writing as well !! Stephen Fry has done a grand thing. One point of wonder, the fact that Paris raided Sparta and did steal breaking the rules of hospitality, and then on the way back to Troy his party seemed to raid along the shores, killing Sidon and stealing, all of this activity and what had to occur during the siege of Troy to supplement the army in the field there, a continued need to raid and pillage for foods and what not, all of this sounds very much like actions of the "Sea Peoples" at the collapse of the Bronze Age, or the actions taking place in the end decades of the said Bronze Age. I enjoyed the small addition or mention of A Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes/Dr. Watson, Doyle being a Gemini by birth I have always seen the two famous characters as each side of the Gemini twins nature, something Im very familiar with being Gemini myself :) The talk on Achilles, and his youthful age, made me think of James Dean and Billy the Kid etc. such that died young but are never forgotten. Shooting stars all !
Wonderful! Stephen Fry is truly a great storyteller! Remind me of ’Return to Ithaca’ by Eyvind Johnsson (also well worth your time - strongly recommend!). Thank you for uploading!
Young people come to me, and they ask me what is the purpose of art and what is the purpose of life. My answer is very simple. The purpose of life is survival of the species, but at the same time, enjoying the music of lies. The purpose of art is creating something that mirrors back there affairs of the universe by doing so it reflects current events, and if it is captured by the monster, she Bernard just in the proper way it’s my not every time stop time I know I know I know. It’s very difficult to stop time and visual arts. And Andrey Tarkovskij in the genius filmmaker spoke about it many times. I would like to make more reference about stopping time and your artwork in the future.
I hope there are people coming through your page from TikTok because I’m talking about your pages all the time, encouraging young people to find you on UA-cam, and to follow and to learn from you
🌞 my channel is not monetized!! that's how)) hope one day i won't delete this video. as many people enjoy it (even they may find original one but here must be something))))) meanwhile im not receiving any $ support from this.
Brilliantly written and read. A background music would add something to make more useful for everyday time-passing. When Helen was imitating the voice of Penelopa,- first thing that popped up in my mind was how could Helen know the voice of Penelopa!? Did they ever meet? And so the others? The later from the last lines of the afterword I knew, of course it was not Helen, it Afrodita; she mesmorased Helen.
Back in time when we humans didn't have sciences such as geology, geography and geodesics, we had a much closer relationship with nature and the animals as our guides. If you wish to carve a foot path down a steep slope, you would let loose a donkey, wise and sure footed with each step and follow after him. In some rural parts of Anatolia, that is still the preferred method in construction and "urban planning". So, no. Letting a cow choose the spot isn't arbitrary and absurd at all! They probably know something :)
Irrelevant. She never gets debit for launching a thousand ships either. The loss of Troy was her crime and her entirely irresponsible and selfish lover.

This is fucking gold. I was searching for this a one and half years earlier, I hardly found, I'm happy that it is easily available now for everyone else

Stephen Fry. Great man and scholar! Thank you!
11 hours of Mr Fry? What's not to like? I may even be entertained and learn something.
I have a copy of the Iliad at home. I have never read it. Now
I dont need to. What a story - and what lucid comments after. Thanks to you and Mr Fry.

Too funny 😂 I completely agree
Agreed
Kkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkklkkkkkkk
This brilliant man not only reads, but also plays the characters of the fable with ethos and accuracy...
It’s so interesting!!! Stephen Fry breathes life into everything. Worth every minute 😊
Every time I stop by I will leave you a message just to let you know how much I enjoy your awards and teachings of the ancient wisdoms 😅😮😢😢🎉

Thank you for this. Just think that if Zeus had been a decent wedding guest and given the apple to the bride we could have avoided this whole mess
Thank you for sharing this wonderful book.
Genius layered. This is sheer, ebullient, maniacally intelligent, and hugely generous, and it eats me for breakfast. Fryed. ❣
A person with a voice like Stephen Fry's should be president of the world. Who could go to war after listening to him for 20 minutes?
I'm Irish but i love Stephen,n im sure the rest of the island does too,i bought n read all his mythology books n now listening to this for the third time since discovering audiobooks for free

🌞
this is great after finishing harry potter and you need more Stephen
Yes, I can hear all the same character voices he uses in HP, it's somehow like a little encore.
Just this minute discovered this in October 2023. ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you 🙏
Always room for more Mr Fry on the playlist.
Wonderful narration!❤️👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
God... I LOVE Stephen. He is amazing. If he wasn't married already, I'd marry him if he'd only ask.
This is so engaging that I can't help but want to stay awake and hear more.
11 hours ......and i hate that its over , man what a great book
Thanks for uploading this!! The past version got taken down. This has been my favorite book for about a year now.
Yt needs a refreshing wobble!
At 8:37:21 there's a really annoying sound if you have earphones on so be careful.
Great audiobook.
Thank you!
@@Panthia_Poe you are most welcome.
You're right, could be deafening if people aren't careful!
@@finbarrbuckley2229 who would've thought that audiobooks can be dangerous.
This man’s voice just literally put me to sleep. I woke up 3 hours later and I’m almost at the end. Time to rewind lol.
🌞 fortunate man!! due to full moon 1 / 31 August the rest of civilization might have insomnias
This happened to me last night too
Yes, Stephen Fry’s narration knocked me out to sleep every time within 10 minutes. I’m probably about three months into this book, but it does make me go to sleep, better than any pharmaceutical drug great cure for an insomniac.
That’s a good sign. He makes you feel comfortable and relaxed ☺️

Love this
Thank you so much! 🤙🏽
This must be the most ingenious work of literary artistry in the English language. Written and read by an extraordinarily talented man.
Along with Peter Ustinov, my favorite person to listen to.
he could read me the phone book and i'd never get bored!
Thank you so much for this 💗
This is so good listened over 2 night's really enjoyed it

I love this series😇
Thank you SO MUCH for uploading this book! I enjoyed A LOT!
I was just about to buy it. Thank you mate! Cheers from Greece.
I’m sure that $20 would have ruined you.
I regret that he doesn't use that wonderful final line of the Iliad: "These were the funeral rites of Hector, tamer of horses".
Quite...
Thanks for your work and time making this happen for me ❤❤a new subscriber
Holy shit. Ten hours! You are yourself a god!
we are Divinity manifesting itself 💚 spiritual essences, passing here human tasks and destinies and not vice versa.
Namaste 🙏
The death of Hector is heart breaking!
It is. But one can’t avoid thinking that Priam has done a 180 … from ordering his baby’s murder to the epitome of the old grieving father…
Awesome voice
thanks for sharing
S.R is a latter-day Homer: utterly mesmerising.
cheers, mate
War and destruction, depravity: thst much hasn’t changed. And so the Iliad ends and the Odyssey begins. And here we all are, no better, no worse.
Magnificent storytelling 👌👍
