I’ve adored Mr. Fry since A Bit of Fry and Laurie, but was off him for years after his series on America. I watched with keen delight as he invariably came across the most engaging treasures in every state, savoring each with his sparkling intelligence. A born and bred Coloradan, I couldn’t wait for what he found here. It turned out to be Aspen, which he loathed. I don’t think much of the place myself but was that all he thought we were? It was like being slapped across the face by a dear old friend. Still, it’s impossible to hold a grudge against so brilliantly generous a mind as this marvelous conversation proves.

Kia ora from Aotearoa. It is ever a pleasure to hear Stephen Fry. I always come away having learnt something new. So looking forward to the live show in Wellington in November. Oh and I can thoroughly recommend his Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes and all four greek myth books - the latter so much that I'm going to have to also buy them in text so I can make notes. Having heard isolated stories as radio plays while a child, it is wonderful to hear how it all fits together in context. If I could wish anything it would have been that he had read my favourite author, the late great Sir Terry Pratchett.

Hi Kyle, thanks for this erudite feedback. Stephen's work is quite breathtaking in its scope, and I always say, "don't bet on Stephen's not having read your favourite book(s)" - it's a bet you're likely to lose! I would be surprised if he had not read at least some of the works of the late, lamented Sir Terry Pratchett. Of course, we can be sure that he has read "Good Omens."

Knowing Stephen has been a great joy. We are very fortunate that he's a long-standing admirer of Glenn Gould, both as a pianist, a thinker, and a fellow technophile. When Stephen agreed to serve as a juror for The Glenn Gould Prize (the Laureate was Leonard Cohen), I really felt as though we'd won the lottery. It is such a privilege for The Glenn Gould Foundation that Stephen has remained a good friend to our organization all these years. @@BrianLevine-p5e I apologize, I'm just now seeing your previous response. Stephen seems like a tremendous guy and I look forward to checking out your next discussion! I do have a question if you'd like to consider it. He is a vocal atheist and very passionate about Greek mythos, but his opinion on mystical experiences is quite limited. Does he believe in things like "The Oracle of Delphi" and their ability to channel divine wisdom or does he chalk that up to the thought processes of the time? Thanks again for the replies.
