Hi, my mum has a 2008 willerby vogue static caravan, with central heating, how can I tell which drain valve to open for to drain tap, toilet, shower etc. Thanks
I undone the connectors under neath where boiler is and drained it is that ok ad last year I didn't and everything was fine except boiler had frozen bits inside needed new boiler because I didn't drain it
It's the same process, but don't open the drain plugs on the central heating system, usually the central heating pipes will have a label or a tag on them saying do not open, but if you're unsure you should get a gas engineer to show you.
Do you ever need to blow the water out of the system using a compressor? I seem to remember my dad making one using a bicycle pump and a chuck that screwed tight over the tap.
Yes, that's a more thorough way to do it, we didn't mention that here because most people don't have a compressor to hand, but that ensures the pipes are definitely clear of water. You're probably fine without that step though.
Hey, thank you for the question, (and the answer below too). I live in mine full time in Hungary, but I do leave for a few days to work from another city at Mum's home. I was worried about frost damage, but seems like I did everything right, and will get more antifreeze liquid ready. I can now sleep in peace away from the Carnaby. Thank you again for reasurance. ✨
What is the anti-freeze? Is it just car anti-freeze? I am sick of paying a lot of money for a task that seems to take the park manager about a minute to complete!!

A year late with the reply so not sure if any use now as I have just bought a static. But might be good for others to read? When water freezes, it expands, so if the pipe is full of water, there is know where for it to expand and so it all expands along the pipe and bursts the pipes at the weakest point. If there is a bit of water in the pipe, it would usually freeze but expand outwards along the pipe as it is the least resistance for the ice and so it is usually ok. But this is why a lot of people use the devices that blow air through the pipes to get as much of the water out as they can. 👍👍
Thank You, Just saved Me £75.00
Excellent clear and concise advice. Thank you and should save me about £50.
Great video saved me £75 too
Dyou have a video if you have a central heating system in your static caravan
Great video, short and to the point!!! 👏👏👏
Excellent, thanks. I'll make my wife watch this so she can do it :D
Many thanks, very helpful.
I drain down after turning off main stopcock. Put antifreeze in toilet and cistern and down sink into U bends. Job done. Takes me around 10 mins.
Great video, Im away to do mine this weekend!
Great help for a lot of people, thanks
Any advice for insulating the underneath of the van?
thanks you helped me out :) !

Just to be on the safe side I always used to disconnect my main water pipe
As the park is going to charge me £65 for them to drain it down, I shall do it myself. Thanks for the guidance

Yep same as you put in your car 👍
Is that a particular type of anti freeze ? Or just the type you’d use in a car ??

What about water trapped in the doglegs of the water pipes ?
