Everyone needs to be educated in what a concussion is, how to deal with it, and the effects of a taking a second hit before recovering from the first one. The most important thing is:REPORT IT AND TAKE AS LONG AS YOU NEED TO RECOVER. A few months off then a gradual return to sports/active duty is better than not working for the next 2years.
This treatment information is now outdated & we know that too much rest and “cocooning” actually make the recovery much worse by preventing blood flow and the moderate stimulus needed to heal the brain. Mild exercise is very important to a threshold below what can re-trigger symptoms. Check other videos for updated treatment recommendations! Also getting into a concussion specialist asap is key.
I've had a concussion for 3 months now, and I have been completely resting, physical, and mental. So the answer to question #9 is right AND wrong. My grandma recommended craniosacral therapy. I've been 3 times and its helped my 24/7 headache. It's amazing!
Good to see Matt is alive and well and living in Canada. He was a patient of mine in his playing days and spent the off season in Dallas. He was a great QB and a class individual. Steve Parker ATC,LAT ,MA
I have played multiple sports from the time i was 12... and have been in multiple fights growing up... Been knocked out about 11 times from hitting the ice in hockey... kicked in the head playing soccer.. and boxing. Ive suffered approximately 20-30 concussions in that time. Now in my late 40s.... im having more and more severe headaches.. loss of balance.. and massive mood swings. This is starting to scare me a bit. Just thought i was just getting old... now I'm thinking of getting checked out.... CTE scares the hell outta me.
Hello, I am from Iraq. I hope you will answer my question. My brother suffered a concussion and loss of consciousness 8 days ago. X-rays were taken and nothing bad appeared, as a result, he has not woken up yet.
@@toqanathom7039 If your brother has been unconscious for 8 days, that is very serious and considered a coma. He should be monitored in a hospital as soon as possible
Concussions are rough. You definitely don't need to play sports to get one. I suffered my first concussion when I was 13. I fell riding my bicycle. I didn't think the fall was that bad, but I had intermittent migraines every few months for about 10 years after that. They stopped happening in my early 20's. I'm grateful that they went away. My second concussion happened when I was 26. I was hit by a drunk driver on the interstate. That was bad enough that I lost consciousness. I still don't have any memory of the accident. The first 8 hours of that day are gone. Everything I know about it is second hand accounts from what people told me or what I read in the police report. I never had any headaches or physical pain from that concussion, but my short term memory and concentration were terrible for a few years after that.
Hi there, the facts in the video come from Dr. Tator's article published in the Canadian Medical Association Journal, 'Concussions and their consequences: current diagnosis, management and prevention.'
I have had a concussion for 19 years and ended up disabled from it and just 3 weeks ago I fell and knocked me unconscious and lucky a friend saw it happen. I’m now fighting a different level I didn’t have before I was in hospital for a week and waiting to enter rehab and I know I am not the same it took 7 years to get my act together and now everything is polarized and stare and it’s hard to make others understand what is wrong with you now I wouldn’t wish this on no one you become a actor to please everyone else but yourself cause the say you look fine to me step in my shoes for 19 years and just seconds you will have a different outlook.
Disorientation and confusion are symptoms of concussions, which are invisible. You may wind up in a mental hospital and get misdiagnosed as psychosis, schizophrenia, bipolar and crazy.
Sorry to hear that, Sarah. Best of luck with your recovery. Google: "cbc concussion primer" to read about Dr. Tator's six-step guide for doctors treating concussion patients.
So if you get a glancing blow to the head during a soccer game and you have one of the symptoms for 10 mins immediately after, ie slightly fussy vision and slight head pain. That goes away almost immediately and then there are no further symptoms on the day or any following day for 10days. Is this a concussion or not? Doc in q1 says 1 persistent symptom. Out soccer rules say 14 days rest when there are no symptoms at all after an initial short period, certainly no persistent symptoms
the thing abt the helmets is that people expect them to actually stop concussions but when you look at the history of football you will see that they were originally made to prevent the skull from cracking open
i fell from a partner stunt in cheerleading. it was tossing when my bases didnt caught me. back of my neck hurts and when i close my eyes it seems like everything is moving, i feel dizzy when i turn my head left and right side, i feel nauseous. do i have concussion?
Leigh Mendoza for what I being watching in videos about concussions, looks like you had the symptoms. I am not a doctor, but yes. You had a concussion. I hope you are doing well and fully recovered. I’ve had multiple concussions where it was mainly me passing out this one I had fallen from the top of my stairs which is narrow but I had passed out before I had even got to the bottom and once again hit my head on the tile leading to the kitchen I had bruises and cuts on my knee and elbow Im assuming I hit my head multiple times because there was 2 lumps then next thing I remember it was so blurry when I woke up I was in pain my head was throbbing my mum came from the bathroom screaming and I think she took me to the couch it was hard to walk even im just shocked she hadn’t took me to hospital I think that concussion effects me to this day and im 17 now and that was probably 8 years ago and I don’t remember anything else through that day I just remember everything being to loud like people talking.
I got kicked in the head twice and I don't remember anything I've been having a lot of headaches and I've been feeling dizzy and when I woke up everything was blurry

I got hit by a ball thrown at me and had a lot of symptoms and then 2 years later got hit with a ball even harder and closer to me in the same area and only had a few very small symptoms that went away quickly, do I have a concussion from the second hit?
+Caucasian Sensation Yes, you might have a concussion from that second hit. There are a number of factors that increase or decrease the risk of concussion such as the area of impact (some areas of the skull are more fragile than others); the anticipation of the impact (meaning if you had percieved the near impact and had responded accordingly by, for example, contracted the neck muscles); your overall physical and mental state by the time of impact... An individual who had suffer a concussion is not safe from another one, in fact, such individual might actualy be more prone to develop a concussion (not meaning this is the case). 2 years is a very long period to even try to establish any kind of correlation. But, I should advise you: if you feel any kind of symptons such as dizziness, nausea, confusion, loss of consciousness, ... you should stop the physical activity (or other activity) that led to those symptons. An individual who suffers a concussion and still remains in the game is an individual at risk, since a new impact might have dramatic consequences such as the second impact syndrome (although very rare, it leads to death in about 50% of cases).
