    Never seen a beaver dam this dry before. They always packed in fresh mud. Like your description said I think beavers were long gone from place and it had become part of the landscape.

    • @StefBon2008
      @StefBon2008 Рік тому

      There is wood in the dam, but the quantity of mud is way too big. I think it has been a beaver dam years ago, and people put mud on it to be able to walk on it. That would explain that the level of the dam is exactly the same as the surrounding level: it has the same height. A beaver would not do that.

    This beaver damn had turned into solid, wood-reinforced earth. That dam wouldn’t have gone anywhere even decades later. It really must have been quite old. Crazy how it still was holding water perfectly even after removing more than 3/4ths of the dam.

    Did you know that here in the USA we pay for that luscious black dirt? Here, they call it organic peat, when it's just river bottom silt that's been dried out. Put it where you want your garden in the spring. Till it in the soil before planting time. Add a big handfull of earth worms. Viola! One fantastic garden!

      Beavers utilize green wood. They understand waterproofing. They would never chew live trees if they scavenged, because they wouldn’t waste the time and energy. But that’s why they do. They choose materials carefully. They don’t just feel like chewing down trees. It’s because they know waterlogged wood is garbage
