lorewise, I always assumed the heide dragon was meant to show the extent of the old dragonslayer's deterioration... his one emphasised character trait (slaying dragons) yet theres one contentedly sleeping right outside
Yeah, I mis-spoke a bit there when I said it wasn't placed logically. I more meant that it was placed without due thought for the mechanics of actually beating it rather than it being placed illogically lore-wise.
What about the fact that the other boss of the area is the Dragonrider? I always thought it was supposed to be his mount, as it's just chilling so close to the other knights of the area.
My favorites ER miniboss are the ones Who are in Horses mainly because the story behind It. See, FromSoft wanted to implement this kind of enemies since DS3, being a more dificult enemy than usual due to their high speed, in that moment they weren't able to program It as It was dificult to make one NPC stand over another. They tried to do that in Sekiro but rather on another way, as a same NPC , meaning that enemy wouldn't be able to be separated from his Horse. Of course, im talking about the first main Boss fight of the game, Gyobu. It wasn't until their open world game that they decided rather a stupid yet so simple and efficient solution; attach points. Some NPC would had attach points in order that other NPCs would be glued over them. That means that some enemies, could be able to ride enemies such as those pesky flying insects. Anyhow, you can see that some bosses on horseback used the same system as Gyobu (Erdtree Sentinels) and which bosses actually used the newer systems( Night Calvary). Some people may be in denial, but FromSoftware always wanted to implement new systems into their games, and the idea of some scrapped concepts that can come back later with more experience is something I love about game development.

It doesnt outright kill scions, but it'll flip them on there back like the shell guys from ds3. Plenty of time to finish it off while its squirming on the ground 👌
The Heide Knights near the dragon will attack you even if you haven’t killed the Dragonrider, but the ones further away are still passive. I played through this level recently.
I have to say my fav DS1 minibosses are the big sludge monsters in New Londo. They're one of a kind, look horrifying when you first see them, have a very unique set of abilities, match perfectly to their environment and their freakiness adds an extra tension when you fight them, especially since they're always surrounded by lesser enemies.
The reason the 7 ashina spears boss is so hard is that he's the first spear enemy in the game that doesn't get destroyed by mikiri counters, he makes it hard to perform one because of the delays and even if you manage to do it he doesn't give you an opening right after.
You know what'd be a hilariously evil heavyish/minibossish unit for ER2? Mini Margit/Morgott. With the whacky super long attack delays and crazy combo potentials. Make them more aggressive with the sudden thrown daggers for good measure.
I strongly disagree with Grafted Scion being a bad mini-boss, let alone the worst one in Elden Ring. I'm bad at fighting them as well, despite the 1000+ hours I have in Elden Ring, but that doesn't mean they're bad enemies. I've always enjoyed the difficult, complex moveset they possess, and all the little ways you can create openings by strafing certain attacks and attacking in between the gaps in their combos.
Grafted Scion: they have a few attacks you can punish somewhat reliably. Run in after their scream with a jumping light, the forth swing in their basic swipe combo is easy enough to score a parry on. when they do that stomping attack with all their blades that wraps up with a leap and slam, respond with your own jumping heavy. When they take the duelist stance, run their right side. to be clear, you will be going to the left side of the screen, and you can reliably dodge either of the attacks they come out with and punish with a few swings of your own. Still not terribly fun to fight. You never feel in control regardless of your combat style unless your able to nuke the damn things before they get close. and they get close gaps very fast, it feels, in part because you never have much space to work with when fighting these things. The one in Lenuria is something of an exception, but by the time the illusion disguise wears off, it's already on it's way to kick your shit in, and doesn't even have any rewards on it or nearby to make it worth the effort.
all that being said, the damn lobsters, I hate those FAR more. Also I could never figure out where the channel name comes from, if anything. Mr CANDLE Type 1a may i ask, what is a CANDLE Type 1a?
Thanks man, glad you like my stuff! As for my channel name, it's a pretty obscure reference to some lyrics from the song, "Interstellar Boredom" by the German metal band, Alkaloid. The song's about making a Dyson Sphere and I just thought Candle Type 1a sounded like the coolest term when I heard the vocalist say it.
I couldn't agree more with your pick for the worst Dark Souls 1 miniboss. I have played DS1 base game and DLC to completion multiple times and DS2 SOTFS base game to completion, and the only enemy in DS1 with Shitboxes as bad as anything in DS2 are the titanite demons. I can perfectly time a dodge to avoid the swing, but if the pole touches me at any point after he's already attacked, I take massive counter damage even though he isn't attacking and I've stopped rolling. Sometimes, it won't even look like it hit me, and I'll take damage. I've been killed by the jumping attack because the tail touched me when I dodged forward to end up behind them, or they'll wind up for a hit, and I take damage from the wind up.
I also CAN’T STAND how their tail can do chip damage to you when you’re busy dodging their like 120 degree fucking polearm swings. Just everything about them is infuriating.
It looked like you were about to name Havel as worst DS1 miniboss and I already had my hate comment drafted when you said "titanite demon". Good fake out, got me
I've always meant to start putting out stuff on the Nioh series. Nioh 2 in particular is one of my favourite ever games; I absolutely love it. Might put out a retrospective or something for it first this year and then start dipping into lists/rankings after.
Totally agree with the seven spears of ashina, I legit thought I would never beat him hahah. Took me almost a week to beat him (embarrassing I know) but after fighting him, much like you I loved the fight. Hands down the best souls miniboss imho, really made you get good. Also definitely agree on the headless, especially the underwater one in the fountainhead palace. You fight two for gods sake and you can't use confetti underwater, what a miserable experience.
It's weird that the Vanguard Demon will sometimes not move at all, just attacking from a stand still. I don't recall this being a problem in the original, but I've definitely seen it in the remake.
Grafted Scion's to me were not too much of a problem to fight, especially compared to royal revenants. They have many more openings and attacks that are not too hard to roll away from. But it sure seems like heavy weapons user are much more impacted given scion can attack pretty fast.
More I see of the Pursuer, more I wish it was clearly the same one. Even after taking his soul, he just mindlessly keeps pursuing, looking more and more weathered each time with maybe an additional attack on each encounter. Ending with an optional endgame boss fight if you beat him all previous times, now just this barely holding together husk of curse filled armor.
Gotta say, as maddeningly harsh as the Bloody Crow of Cainhurst was, I enjoyed the fight far more than the Hyopgean Gaol trio. Probably purely because the Crow isn't blocking progress.
The drake in hieds actually is best to fight melee as you just sprint from the stair case to the legs. Then it can never fire breathe again besides it flying up, which you can stand on the edge of the arena to dodge without needing to worry. It can only stomp or try to bite *very slowly* and is a joke to kill early from this.
The grafted scion as well is easily killed by just parrying them. They do the 4 swipes from right to left, the last swipe is heavily delayed and is meant for you to run into it for a parry.
Tbh it'd be awesome if you went into Armored Core content. We all like fromsoft content, and fromsoft has a lot of different games. Maybe do kingsfield or the echo night series?
While I definitely agree with Bloodborne’s abhorrent beast, you seemed to forget about the beast possessed soul that appears at the bottom of the pit area near the cathedral. Such a random encounter but a menacing enemy that only otherwise appears as a Chalice boss
I do think the Beast-possessed Soul is a brilliant enemy but for some reason I seemed to remember that it respawned there if you came back after killing him. Upon checking though, turns out it doesn't respawn, and so yeah, if the Abhorrent Beast wasn't in the game it'd probs get the best miniboss spot.
Praise the sun fellow Scotsman been watching your vids the last few days and been trying to figure out why I like your voice so much. I thought you were Irish being half Irish myself so I always get them mixed up haha. Some of these mini bosses I get so annoyed at need to really learn to not be greedy but to be fair I’ve been saying this since DS1 so I guess I will never learn
For me, i appreciate the fact that shichimen warrior and headless are optional. I've only ever beatem them once and that was when i was going for the platinum. So they are not a problem that much. With that mindset, my absolute worst miniboss in Sekiro is Blazing Bull. Especially due to the fact that it is mandatory no matter the playthrough. Thinking about the Bull sometimes literary stops me from doing another playthrough. It is annoying as hell and unlike most bosses and minibosses in the game, it is not fun to fight at all no matter the skill level.
I’m so glad that someone else hates the DS1 Titanite Demons as much as I do. In the past I’ve even googled “why the titanite demons are so bad” in hopes of finding Reddit posts supporting my views. Their impossible reach, janky, delayed attacks, their clipping through everything, their large HP bars, and the fact that hitting them doesn’t even give you a satisfying, impactful sound the way other enemies do in DS1, all contribute to them feeling just plain terrible to fight. I’d go as far as to say they’d be in my top 5 most annoying enemies in ALL of Souls.
My personal pick for the worst titanite demon is that first one in the parish. They’re all annoying but that one is especially terrible because of the rubble all over the place messing with your rolls.
I considered myself a soulsborne veteran when I started Sekiro. But that was the issue I couldn’t break my habits from those games. I’d quit the first time outta frustration and didn’t come back from a few months. I spent 10straight hours of game save time fighting seven spears. It was miserable. But I was not gonna leave and go else where , and I wasn’t quitting again, he was going down. And when is finally beat him I’d broken all the habits of trying to play sekiro like the other games. When that man finally went down I screamed at the TV like I’d put down my worst enemy… lol. But the rest of the game was was much easier and when all was said and done Sekiro is my favorite From game to play.
Worst mini boss in DS1 has to be the chaos bug in blighttown. It attacks way too fast, and its placement is total bs. I know there’s the option of going behind it, but if the only way to beat something without getting thrown off the side is to cheese it, it’s a bad design.
What do you mean "grotesque nipples", my guy?! The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is the toughest boss in any of the games, and he's not even a real boss... Thanks for another top tier video!
That's in a hidden section of the Fringefolk Hero's Grave. There's a part on the chariot's track where the path narrows and you can drop down to a bit below, leading to two Grafted Scions. It's pretty rough lol
You could expand this idea to non-souls games? Like maybe 3D Platformers like Hat in Time or Corn Kidz 64 Others souls-likes? Like Salt and Sancturary, Hollow Knight (debatable if that one even counts), Lies of P
I would personally pick the regular tree sentinel on the first step over the draconic one by maliketh as the better miniboss. It’s a great teaching moment for returning players and new players alike, showing you that there are some things in the open world that you are better off returning to with a little more levels under your belt. Plus it has the really cool shield that reflects magic, forcing casters to take a more imaginative or bold approach. That draconic bastard just shoots fireballs at me with his horse over and over and OVER AGAIN. Terrible AI in my experience, inconvenienced by that miniboss in every run
as far as elden ring goes, i'd say the worst is the royal revenants. THey are obnoxious, hyper aggressive and teleport around, but if you have any faith a heal spell demolishes them, as well as any non-holy spells..you'd think they'd be weak to that element. The grafted scions are annoying, but there are certain attacks that are easy enough to punish if you are patient.
I mean, I believe the worst mini boss in dark souls one is the hellkite drake. At least the Titan night demons you can fight them. The hellkite mostly Insta kill you and just stay in the air spamming fire on a bridge. The Guardian dragon from dark souls two is just a hellkite in an actual arena and without the dash attack
I feel like it should've been maldron the assassin for ds2. The pursuer is more iconic, sure. But Maldron is literally the best npc invader they've ever designed.
Headless are a pain, but Lone Shadow Masanaga takes my spot for worst miniboss. I did it legit one time, and decided to cheese every time since. Screw him and his endless dogs 😂
Good video! Hard disagree though with the Elden ring pick - I feel the grafted scion is a good miniboss as you are shown how scary this guy is at the start of the game - also Elden rings biggest problem imo is the amount of littering of copy paste bosses. My personal pick for worst miniboss has to be either Margit (surprise encounter outside leynedell) as it’s the exact same enemy again, I believe right next to that miniboss is an ulcerated tree spirit too, which is one of the ugliest moveset bosses in the game
Mimimimimimimi Mimimimimimimi Mimimimimimimi Mimimimimimimi mimimimimimimi mimimimimimimi...

I somehow still haven't played any Armored Cored games - not even the newest one. I'll get round it it one of these days though!
Armored Warrior in Sekiro for me is the best miniboss From has ever made.
better than mist noble?
@@yourehereforthatarentyou how could I have forgotten the absolute goat mini boss, shame on me
Your intro really made me laugh - one of the "gentlemen" watching your videos
Great way to end the video
MIMIMIMIMI
That intro was top tier brainrot. I love it
Elden Ring: I consider the fallingstar beast in mount gelmir a miniboss and that's my fave
Now this is some good content.
If you’re looking for content you could do a top 10 best and worse comments on videos
In 34:51 what is this dungeon it's the first time I see it
You can't convince me you didn't intentionally add a little extra Scottish zest to that "Brilllllllliant patrons"
wow i love being individually addressed by the opening
The best mini boss in Elden Ring for me is Blaidd. A unique encounter with huge emotional weight and a fun moveset. Truly should have been a boss.
I like Crucible Knights because they are the only enemy I can parry consistently.
Best and worse chair in every soulsborn game
Hey if you'd want to keep doing Souls lists, how about telling us your favorite and least favorite spell/weapon from each game?
The worst Titanite Demon for me is the Catacombs one, the room its in is ridiculously tight and you can get stuck trying to circle around it.
next i think id like to see fromsoft instances of odd geometry ranked
I’m so glad that someone else hates the DS1 Titanite Demons as much as I do. In the past I’ve even googled “why the titanite demons are so bad” in hopes of finding Reddit posts supporting my views. Their impossible reach, janky, delayed attacks, their clipping through everything, their large HP bars, and the fact that hitting them doesn’t even give you a satisfying, impactful sound the way other enemies do in DS1, all contribute to them feeling just plain terrible to fight. I’d go as far as to say they’d be in my top 5 most annoying enemies in ALL of Souls.
"Love it to bits, i want to kiss it on the lips" nice reference
Orin of the Water gotta be best Sekiro for me. Kicked my ass so bad but then I got her timing down and deflects were so satisfying
I just did 8 back to back runs of dark souls 1 to finally beat ng+7 and i never went in the titanite demon pit once lmao
you're a loremaster, the name of the pursuer comes from the fact that it pursues you. holy shit, how do you figure this stuff out?!?!
1:12 I don’t remember that enemy in Demons Souls.
It’s an enemy from black world tendency I believe
I will always remember that one time CANDLE Type 1a went "mimimimimimimi"
Worst mini boss in DS1 has to be the chaos bug in blighttown. It attacks way too fast, and its placement is total bs. I know there’s the option of going behind it, but if the only way to beat something without getting thrown off the side is to cheese it, it’s a bad design.
What do you mean "grotesque nipples", my guy?!
The Bloody Crow of Cainhurst is the toughest boss in any of the games, and he's not even a real boss...
Thanks for another top tier video!
where is this in the map 35:03
That's in a hidden section of the Fringefolk Hero's Grave. There's a part on the chariot's track where the path narrows and you can drop down to a bit below, leading to two Grafted Scions. It's pretty rough lol
You could expand this idea to non-souls games?
Like maybe 3D Platformers like Hat in Time or Corn Kidz 64
Others souls-likes?
Like Salt and Sancturary, Hollow Knight (debatable if that one even counts), Lies of P
The “mimimimimi mimimimimimi” really hit the spot at the end there🗣️🔥
Not mentioning the giant crystal lizard from DS3 as the worst is a crime
I would personally pick the regular tree sentinel on the first step over the draconic one by maliketh as the better miniboss. It’s a great teaching moment for returning players and new players alike, showing you that there are some things in the open world that you are better off returning to with a little more levels under your belt. Plus it has the really cool shield that reflects magic, forcing casters to take a more imaginative or bold approach. That draconic bastard just shoots fireballs at me with his horse over and over and OVER AGAIN. Terrible AI in my experience, inconvenienced by that miniboss in every run
"The Tootooreal boss" is tickling me for some reason 😂
You could also do best and worst weapons and armor
as far as elden ring goes, i'd say the worst is the royal revenants.
I wasn't including NPC invaders in the list, though if I was I'd almost certainly have named Maldron as the worst in DS2, not the best haha
Headless are a pain, but Lone Shadow Masanaga takes my spot for worst miniboss. I did it legit one time, and decided to cheese every time since. Screw him and his endless dogs 😂
vid idea:best and worst weapon from each game
I think the Crucible Knights have to be my least favorite enemy in Elden Ring. I just cannot seem to get good at fighting them.
Good video! Hard disagree though with the Elden ring pick - I feel the grafted scion is a good miniboss as you are shown how scary this guy is at the start of the game - also Elden rings biggest problem imo is the amount of littering of copy paste bosses.
My personal pick for worst miniboss has to be either Margit (surprise encounter outside leynedell) as it’s the exact same enemy again,
I believe right next to that miniboss is an ulcerated tree spirit too, which is one of the ugliest moveset bosses in the game
I quite enjoyed your Old King Borin’ joke l😂
