Big Butt😂 certainly is! Great stuff Mike
Good info on the fuse box. Never even realised it’s colour coded. I’m sat here home schooling the kids whilst getting home schooled by Mike!
Glad it helped
Ay up. Another great video there. I'm looking forward to more videos of this project.
More to come!
PMSL, "those Chinese glow plugs take 3days to warm up" great informative video Mike.
Thanks 👍
Interesting video looking forward to the next one 👍👍👍👍👍
More to come!
HI Mike, I have one of those type of battery testers and I was told that the measurement of the internal resistance of the battery is a very good indication of the health of the battery. The higher the internal resistance the less the battery is able to output high currents when starting. The internal resistance of a good new battery should only be a 5 milliohms or less. You cannot just put a normal ohm meter across the terminals you need a special tester that sends a high frequency signal into the battery to measure the impedance. A lot of these testers do have that function and so this is gives a very good indication of the health of the battery.
Simon
Yes this is much better than load tester
Brillant video. Learnt so much watching this. Going to look at my fuses tomo 👍
Glad it helped
Who's watching this at 3am in the morning?? Not just me then.
Hi Mike 👋 just saying thanks looking forward to seeing this project 👍👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Hope you enjoy it!
One of my great rambler I learn more about my landrover each time, done the wire test on mine and one glow plug no glow. Well pleased. You keep up the good work and we will keep watching
Glad it helped
As I said in the last video, I was nervous for you getting those glow plugs out.
Well that went OK.
I think that is a very good sign that someone has been looking after that 110 properly.
A very good start to this African project, at least you can move it in and out as required.
yes that was the idea - get it moving - but there is something not quite right with this motor - see next video
@@BritannicaRestorations Oh you bloody tease Mike. Still if it was a perfect 110 there wouldn't be any video content.
It's come out of Africa, now as I have stated, Malawi is a wonderful country with lovely people but they are very poor, parts are few and far between, so it was never going to be perfect.
Looking forward to the next instalment
Really love the way your approach in this Mike I know u have covered some of it before but it's so worth doing it in this format. Brilliant many thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Enjoyed that 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Brilliant! Thank you.
You're very welcome!
That's weird. Exactly what I just did to check & fix my plugs. Even the same make of plug. My lack of power was down to incorrect wiring by a previous owner. I would have liked to see you pull the plugs out, Mike.
Plugs just screwed out - but I had the engine up to temperature first
Bloody batteries ! I had abit of pain with the battery on my bike kicking away as the battery was flat. Hmm I’ll get one of those testers. Great stuff mike
They are pretty good - spotted many a defective battery
@@BritannicaRestorations excellent I’ll order one
Mike. Sensational video on glow plugs ! So in the tropics these aren't required. Or maybe 'Krown Rust Proofing' to stop the bloody fuse contacts from corroding when doing "PNG River Cossing 2" ? V.
The timer relay is temperature sensitive - you can see here where it is a mild -25c right now it stays on longer!
Krown for electrical contacts all the time for me now!
Iv got a little 2.5w sola panel plugged into my cigar lighter keeps the battery green lovely would recommend
Sadly this would not work in the north-east of England as the sun only comes out on June 20th and gone by the 22nd
Lol!
@@BritannicaRestorations my car is broken down in the shade and it’s still charging absolutely no sunlight hits my car swear as long as it’s light outside it charges
@@BritannicaRestorations if you kept it in your workshop it would still charge off the lights
I never realised there was another fuse box!
This is on the 300Tdi
@@BritannicaRestorations Yes Mike, Mines a 300tdi. I must pay more attention when I look in the engine bay!
Thought for a minute you were Den Hegarty from Darts.
lol!
Mike do I assume you brought 2+ boxes of fuses!
Actually I was lucky they had only 5 of these fuses in stock! Not many vehicles use these Maxi fuses
Thanks for a great bit of useful reason and logic in currently mad world
Quick question: do you think there would be a market for a batch of new 200tdi defender timming cases? Thanks from Oxfordshire.
Probably not
@@BritannicaRestorations cheers
Even 300Tdi's are getting thin on the roads where I live, the last 200Tdi I can remember seeing was one that a mate of mine bought to dismantle for body parts 18 months ago, I realise there may be some 200's about, but not many anymore. Nobody wants to be caught with stock of parts that can't be sold. Many old parts can be refurbished/modified to give further use without buying new bits.
@@gazzafloss I think there would be a market for 300tdi parts for a long time, don’t forget they still sold them in the rest of the world until around 2006
Yes the 200Tdi only had a short run of production as there were 2 versions of the 200Tdi - Range Rover/Disco and Defender - with the 300Tdi they had one engine for the whole range
You cannot buy heads for 200Tdi now
Mike can you ckeck the glowplugs in-situ by measuring their resistance with your multimeter?
You can check the resistance but you need a digital multimeter as the figures are small, and each manufacture has different values - best way is with a heavy wire the same gauge as the glow plug, one side on the positive on the battery and touch the top of the disconnected glow plug - if it sparks then it is ok
Mike have you ever come across Ceramic Tipped glow plugs? I’ve always been warned against using those as the ceramic can break upin the cyclinders.
Sorry not heard of them
I’m wondering given the kilometres, if the perceived lack of performance is from a dicky inlet manifold gasket? Great videos. Cheers Peter
Not sure - compression is low on this - see next video
@@BritannicaRestorations so are you suggesting that the mileage on the car may not be accurate? Never seen that before!
It is hard to say!
Hi Mike, I need one of those "cheap as chips" Solar drop testers......any advice as where to get one please?
Amazon Canada, but you may be able to find one cheaper
www.amazon.ca/BA9-40-1200-Digital-Battery-System/dp/B00IZFNJ6Y/ref=sr_1_5?crid=29TPVR0IX4V09&dchild=1&keywords=solar+battery+tester&qid=1612980633&sprefix=solar+battery+%2Caps%2C618&sr=8-5
@@BritannicaRestorations Thanks Mike!
There is another version that is $400+ but that has a printer built in - the small one works fine
Boring to listen to the engine run? People go to concerts to listen to some idiot prance around on stage for a few hours... I'd much rather listen to this surprisingly nice engine tick over..;)
Lol. Forget the London Philharmonic Opera or Symphony Orchestra, I'd happily watch a diesel or petrol engine on stage revving it to its max. Yes, I know I need to get out more, but it'll only be to the garage. ...
Why can 300Tdi not start in the cold when others can?
I noticed that the voltage on the plug was 8 Volts , and looking at Bosh
data sheet , specifying 11 volts . Could the glow plug wiring be under
dimensioned , so it can not carry the current? Also the plug in the
video shines for 6 seconds , but some plugs are specified to 20
seconds . So is the reason combination of weak wiring and too short
glow-time ?
I guess the 11volts are in anticipation of a small voltage drop in
the wiring.
You can now get a Bluetooth multimeter probe for your android phone ,
eliminating the chance that you get strange wires cough in your pulley
wheels.
remember there were plugs in parallel drawing a lot of current when working
The timer also has a temperature sensor changing the time the plugs pre and post heat - in warm weather the plugs hardly come on
DIN is a German standard.
Kim Kardashian 😂😂😂
Butt!
