      @@violingardenacademy Thank you! And yes, I agree. I'm giving each piece as much time as needed. I just rely on my teacher passing it. If they say I need more time, I give it more time. All pieces until the gavotte took 1 week. Now the pieces are hard enough that 1 week isnt enough. But ill be sure to spend as much time on each piece as needed. Be it 2 weeks or 10. No rush :)

    I just got my book 3 today after not really having many challenges left in book two and oooh boy.... I really need to start hitting those F and B major scales HARD during practice. The low 1s and 4s could use some work....

    • @violingardenacademy
      @violingardenacademy  Рік тому +3

      How exciting! And yes, the F and B major scales are very critical:-). A tip for practicing that on the A string is to keep the third finger in its place (note D) and move the first finger down and back up. Just let the finger slide on the string at first to make sure the hand doesn't tense up. The main pitfall with the fourth finger pattern (all fingers low but the third) is that the first finger pulls all the fingers lower with it, and then intonation really suffers. Perhaps I should make a video on this topic? In any case, I hope this is of help! You can also find all pieces in slow practice tempo on my channel which should be even more helpful to your practice! All the best and thanks for watching!

      hey Andrew, I'm 54 and just getting started too, but I did take lessons about 45 years ago for a short time, wish I'd paid more attention and practiced more - I find I'm barely literate at reading music and have to carefully map out each phrase and place finger numbers over the notes often. the brain plasticity remark is pretty valid I think, keep it up buddy stick with it!

    On Bourree II, the last note of bar 32 is an E flat (as per the key signature and lack of other accidentals), however, the violinist here (mistakenly) plays an E natural. Pay attention if you are learning this piece! I am too, and this discrepancy got me confused 😅

      Hi Evripidis! Thank you for noticing this! The version I am playing is the revised Suzuki edition of this piece, and in the Bourrée II there are three E naturals instead of E flats, and it confused me too when I had to relearn it (I learned it with the flats as a child). If your teacher is teaching you the older version, thats fine too, and stick to that! Even though this isn't a religious piece, I've always thought of it as the life, death and resurrection of Jesus because Bourree 1 is lively and in a major key whereas Bourree 2 is introspective and in a minor key, and after that it suddenly switches back to Bourree 1 again!
