Thanks Julie! I am new to mosaics and am going to follow your system to a tee. I am already overwhelmed with the supplies collected. I am looking forward to getting them sorted. ❤❤❤
Hi Julie! I'm pretty much on track with organizing my stuff, until I go to thrift again! Kids asked, "what's for dinner?" My answer, "spaghetti!" They don't know we are having spaghetti all week or until I collect enough jars. 🤣🤪🤣 Thank you for all your great tips! Happy New Year!
Thank you for all the helpful information. One of my daughters worked at KFC and I would wash the variety of sized clear food containers eith lids and use them for storing small tiles, gems, etc..., they work great. I am looking forward to viewing some of your other videos.
Hi Charlene! Thank you for your kind words about my videos. I'm glad you're getting value from them. Sounds like you've figured out a great (inexpensive) storage solution for your tesserae. Nice! Keep creating and I'm thankful you're here!🔥
firstly, i absolutely love your tutorials. so easy to watch and understand. on storage - my husband works in a place that get all sorts of plastic smallish disposable containers. so he brings home the ones that would normally be tossed in the waste bin. ive used them for storing my smaller tiling materials. they stack as well. so its been amazing and very money saving as im retired and not earning any money (to spend on these kind of things). so when i do have any spending money, i can spend it on tiles and the like instead of storage items. ........ very addictive hobby
Hi Josephine! Sounds like you've got yourself a GREAT and inexpensive storage system. FAB!! And you're right, spend your money on mosaic tesserae. The fun stuff! Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here! 🙌
Love seeing all the materials and how you organise them! Although it seems pretty straight forward to me... I'm into mixed media and junk journaling and it get's messy so quickly! Imagine having all sorts of papers, fabrics, laces, ribbons, embroidery threads, buttons, beads, charms, wooden pieces, stickers, glitters, die cuts, tickets, envelopes, postcards, stamps (wooden and clear), magazines, all kinds of images and ephemera and so on and so on. And then on top of that different kinds of media like gesso, inks, water colours, acrylics, markers etc. But I love it and now I'm looking into mosaic too. Just have to do it all :)
Hi Lily&River! Yup, I hear ya! Mosaic artists have a large collection/selection of tesserae as well. Just keep it organized and you'll always know where to find stuff. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Labels will be fun, because I have a label maker, the electric adapter and replacement cartridges. I am going to apply the same steps for my other crafts. Brilliant!
Hi Patricia! Welcome to the world of mosaic! No need to feel anxious and overwhelmed. We won't have that here!😂 I've been doing this for over 24 years so I've accumulated a lot of materials. This is not the norm for a hobbyist. You want to start out slow. One project at a time. It can get very overwhelming especially if you want to make so many things at once. Slow and steady to avoid overwhelm. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
Hi Julie! I have cardboard boxes, and clear baggies and glass jars, on basement shelves. The boxes have got to go. I'm totally taking your advice about the clear totes and starting with a list before I buy the totes. Absolutely great advice, thank you!
Hi Tonya! You're already halfway there! 🙌 Nice! Label your bins and you'll cut your material-hunting time down significantly. Thanks for watching and keep creating!!
Hi Julie, do you have a video where you show how you break plates (and other materials) initially? Yikes! Have yet to start the first project but this is what scares me. Haven't even started collecting yet.
Hi Elaine! There's a little of cutting down plates, bowls, and mugs in this video: ua-cam.com/video/BWSb1sN2j4k/v-deo.html. I'll add your request to the list for a more in-depth video specifically on the breaking part. I also have videos on my channel on how to cut stained glass, vitreous glass. Are those the types of *other materials* you're referencing? Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
Oh Julie Julie Julie…….I love the organization you have and just wish I had half of what you have. Any chance you need to unload some stuff for a price? I’m drooling! I do believe I’d be more creative if I had the goods. I’m looking for anything but am thinking I need to try smarting but I have none…I need to order from somewhere. Thanks for sharing this. My storing stage are dollar tree containers but I’m not liking my system. Love your bloopers! Happy New Year to you! Cheers!🥂
Hi JC! You are funny! 😂 Start small. Go thrifting, or buy a variety pack of stained glass.....or whatever tesserae you're into. Slowly start building. Remember the video I did all about where to get mosaic materials (ua-cam.com/video/u4UEVrlJxCA/v-deo.html)? There are lots of ideas in there. Now's the time to start an organizing system that will grow as your collection grows. It'll be easier to keep a handle on things.
Hi Julie, really enjoyed this video on organizing. I'm constantly redoing my set up and you have some good ideas. I'm learning by following various artists that there's a lot more to grout than I realized. Do you have any tutorials on the different type/brands of grout? Their different uses and which brands you prefer and why?
Hi LisiDonna! Great to hear you enjoyed the video. I've done a number of videos about grout and you can view the playlist here: ua-cam.com/play/PLDyDBysO6HCaYLv0g3lqmCVlA_GqFQZFd.html. Keep creating and I'm so glad you're here!🔥
This was fantastic and so helpful. I don’t have a big space at all. I’ve been using square and rectangular clear containers from Dollar Tree. How do You store your unbroken plates, cups, etc or do you have those? Thanks so much.
Hi Ginny! Excellent. Great to hear you enjoyed it! You don't have to get expensive/fancy containers to make a big difference in your storage system. Start small. I store unbroken plates, bowls, and mugs stacked on one of those shelves behind me in my videos. Usually as more space becomes available in my storage containers, I'll break down a few more. It's a rotating cycle. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here.🔥
forgot to mention, im using an old buffet and hutch that my dear mum passed on to me to store my tesserae in. great recycling of old furniture instead of going and buying storage shelving. just keep an ear out for family getting rid of old furniture for free....
Oh Josephine, your repurposed containers and a piece of furniture of your Mum's to store everything sounds so quaint and serendipitous! Enjoy this lovely space you've created. 😊 I'm so glad you're here!
I love your channel. I have learned so much watching you. Question: Do you break your plates, cups, and bowls when you get them and put in bags or leave them stacked. I leave them stacked and it is not working. Help.
Hi Candace! Thanks for your kind words. Great to hear you're enjoying my videos. To break or not to break? I started off NOT breaking and loved how it looked (instagram.com/p/CPdUtSdNgEF/), but I soon ran out of room. That's when I started breaking things down as I acquired pieces which made me so much happier. I gained so much storage space. Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!🙌
@@JulieWeilbacher thank you so much for taking the time to answer me. My problem is I have soooo much china and I am running out of room. I’m going to try it your way. Truth be told, I enjoy cutting China more than making the mosaics so think this will work
I enjoy cutting them down too but I also enjoy letting them tell me what they want to be and helping make it happen for them. 😁 There are people on Etsy who just cut plates and sell them. If you’re really good at cutting, you should look into it since you like that part better.
@@summerholmes4725 Cutting down plates is certainly a specialized skill. I enjoy cutting down plates for my projects but I don't want to get into mass cutting. I've got enough on my plate! 😂 LOL! Keep creating and I'm glad you're here!
Hi Sky! Under the video, click on 'Show More' in the description. Doing that will open up and fully expose the description of the video which includes chapters, items used in the video, etc.🙌
I have tried to watch several or your videos. I am sure you eventually get to the point, but I cannot wait that long. Please cut your comments down, and get to the point. I really want to learn, but your repetition makes me stop listening after several minutes.
