I’m an ex British Army JTAC & if u were in the sandbox in 2005 or 2007 I may of actually spoke with u or one of ur colleagues, my callsign was Widow51. Completed more 9 lines than I care to remember. I spent a LOT of time attached to your aircav & marines units. Thanks for a great instructional video & I was watching this to decide if I wanted to try out the sim & buy it & I think my minds now made up, so should be getting my wings soon 😁😎
Very helpful, thank you so much! This aircraft has brought a whole new dimension to the game, and new people to the sim. Helicopter flying is a lot more management, you're like the drummer in the band, all feet and hands; the moment you lose the rhythm it can quickly go to hell.
That’s a great way to describe it and, as a musician myself, I can completely appreciate that analogy. I was always a horrible drummer, but I never put in the time to practice. 😎 Thanks for watching!
Thank you! This is exactly what I need! I have no reference for real heli ops. It’s so Much more immersive when I apply real world to my flying. You are awesome
The one thing that took me a long time to learn flying the apache is that your approach speeds should be slow. Used to flying the F-16 in at 130 kts, not trickling in at 40 kts. Hard habit to break but I'm getting there!
I have to second Havoc18's comment, the control input commentary is excellent. Very flight instructorish and it is setting you apart from some of the other SME's out there who are also making fantastic tutorials and content. I think this is a bit of a missing element however so its great that you have identified it because stating the obvious,... helicopter flying is well.... different lol. Perhaps a video on maneuvers? Correct technique and control inputs for turns, climbs, decent in cruise? Making the approach to an engagement area or battle position? Also for defending shorad's? I have become much more proficient but having an sop would be great to help avoid ham fisted panics
I appreciate that. I’m working on something now with regard to maneuvering. Some things are difficult because this helicopter is still early access, and functionality is not there. For example, I’d love to be able to unmask the FCR, do a scan, and engage targets from behind cover, popping up just long enough to lase the target…but it might be a while before we can do that. Thanks for watching!
Awesome video, very helpful. Just started out with the Apache and loving it. Q: Do you fly the pattern at night as well, same parameters ? If not what is the procedure?
thank you this was very good, nice to see it done and the what you are doing while you do it, i have a ton of questions but one i think fits the most as i'm still working on making my landings look like this. ok question and some of this gives me a starting point, going from forward flight to hover, say the front seater wants you to stop fast and hover for a missile shot, up till now i slow down to about 60 knots as anything slower gets kinda ugly oh loved the tacview, i tried to put a live tacview on my stream but my 3070 couldn't handle the encoding of streaming vr and tacview
Everything has to be done smoothly. If you dump the collective and yank back on the cyclic, you’re in for a wild ride. Gently pitch the nose up while reducing the collective and adding right pedal…smoothly. You should be looking at your VVI/VSI and your heading…back and forth, don’t fixate on either one.
Hello! first of all thank you for the insight into real military aviation and helping DCS Players to understand the Aircraft. Since you are a real Apache Pilot I have a question I cannot find any sources about. Perhaps you can help me to understand this. My question is concerning military unit organisation - especially unit call signs. How do unit callsings work with rotary wing aicrafts? I understand, that if a unit is called "DUKE 1-1" this mean, that this Aircraft is the lead of the first wing. Is this homehow accurate? But i also have the impression that sometimes Helicopters are called "DUKE 5-9" for example. In my world this does not make sence at the moment. Can you or someone else please explain this to me? Thank you very much.
Hey man. I really like your videos. You have a calm voice that explains shit slowly. I fly Uh-1ds for living and even I liked watching your landing pattern… Here is the thing with the Apache. Waggs has some terrible, horrible tutorial videos that are a perfect example of “GO HOME AND DO IT AGAIN!!!” I mean his videos are a spam of acronyms and useless information that muffles the important stuff…so we all get a huge headache within 3 minutes in, in each video… My point is we are in DESPERATE need of 3-5 (maybe occasionally 10-15) minute videos of all the systems and functions of the Apache. Can you please do that? Yes that translates to like 30-50 videos that have to be made… I guarantee you will get infinite recognition. There are literally no tutorials for the ah-64. Ffs we don’t even know what pilot’s trigger in first detent does??? Seriously. We don’t know! What does it do? Ps: take a look at deephack UA-cam videos on av-8b…most stupid simple and informative tutorials ever. We need that…
@@schoolio64D what ever you like man. I will watch everything you upload on Apache. But if I would make tutorial, it would have this setup: -General info and cockpits layout. -Keybindings for both seats, providing some priority info for those who don’t have enough buttons. -Start up and SHUT DOWN (ffs, why do everyone assumes that are gonna die anyway?) -take off and landing types. -And then work your way, system by system. Watch Av-8b DeepHack UA-cam videos in conjunction with some hornet waggs’ videos. The one explains in simple words, when the other gets lost in acronyms and unimportant info. For example, we don’t know what cyclic stick trigger first detent does. We do not know how do we input external fuel data on the KU, and why is this that important, considering the fact that once that is empty, you then have accurate total fuel info?…plus it doesn’t look like external tanks transfer fuel anyway. We do not know what the lockout throttle position does. (In my mind it is something like governor in manual mode, but still I have no idea) Or another question is what does force trim ALT does??? Does it even work???? Lots of questions. And only a handful of bad, horrible official videos.
Awesome. I'll take a look at some of those. In the meantime, if you haven't seen CasmoTV's channel, he's covered a few of those topics, and they're worth the time to watch. Thanks!
At altitude or at higher speeds - yes, aerodynamic trim is best. It’s about performance. The helicopter is designed to be flown in trim, and performance is based on that. By flying out of aerodynamic trim, you are putting more drag on the helicopter and it is less efficient at speed, ie more power to go the same speed, in addition to the associated higher fuel burn. Nose to tail is primarily used when you’re flying NOE in order to make sure that the tail isn’t going to hit anything. Is it wrong? It’s a simulator, so if you prefer it that way, fly it that way. 👍

Man I love this. I was the dumb one with a rifle in the back of the CH-53E but I always wanted to know the play by play. I shoulda been a pilot.

Definitely. It’s painfully slow if you’re doing it right.
Thanks very much your instructor skills are excellent much appreciated keep them coming
Great course. I'm gonna apply all of that now. Thanks !
Loved the tacview overlay at the same time!
Also love the way you explain all of your control inputs at the same time.
Great stuff Schoolio!
Glad you liked it. Thanks for watching!
Great as always Terry bravo on the quick success 🙌💪. I love flying out of that airfield.
Really appreciate your approach to explain things. Keep them coming! :)
Definitely my pleasure! Thanks for watching!

Awesome video! Really like how you break things down. Looking forward to more!
Awesome video, very helpful. Just started out with the Apache and loving it. Q: Do you fly the pattern at night as well, same parameters ? If not what is the procedure?
Yes, you can definitely fly the pattern at night. You can fly it the same way as you do in the daytime.
Yay! Looking forward to watching this!

Hi! Call signs in theater are assigned via the Air Tasking Order, or ATO. I’m sure Wikipedia will explain it better than I can. 😊

Thx for clarification! I will give it a try. It's strange for me to fly half sideways, but maybe it takes some practice to get used to. Cheers!
I do struggle sticking to the pattern.
It's hard to kill bad guys when you're in the traffic pattern. XD
@@schoolio64D So very true, but this is all part of it.. Picking up a Oculus Quest 2, this is just to good.
