I’ve been looking at EVs for a long time EV6 was my first choice but the dealer added $10K to the sticker price. I saw ford going with the NACS and tried a Mach e, I liked it so much I bought the LFP premium 4 and it’s a wonderful car. Charges fast and should be charged to 100%. Good range. I can say is it’s built nicer and the interior is more like a regular car than a Tesla, also quiet and comfortable the ride is great. I’m glad I got it and at a really great price. No dealer mark up. Only the long wait. I just heard all the 23 premiums are sold out in the states. And orders for the 24’s will open soon.

I was very looking forward to the mach e arriving in New Zealand, and well it arrived 2 weeks ago and. I test drove it. To say I was incredibly disappointed is an understatement, the base trim no has no electric seats to save costs.
Compared to model y it has no electric seats, no sun roof, no powered tailgate, worse autopilot, poor sound system, somehow worse interior quality. And costs $8000 more than the model y. I can live with a slightly worse car but this is too much. I can see why people choose Tesla and as shall I.

Ok. So a few corrections for Sam. Ford is increasing the run rate for the Mach E to 210,000 vehicles this year, not 130,000. The low production rate (which I think Sam suggests) of 3000 for the first quarter is due to the changes at the Mach E plant. The plant is going to run three shifts (already implemented), and additional manufacturing space was added. As Sam points out, they also switched from Li NMC batteries for the standard range vehicles to CATL's Li FePO4 batteries which are about 30% less expensive. The Lightning gets the LiFePO4 batteries next year. Ford is chasing Tesla no doubt. They are at a cost disadvantage but fortunately for Ford (see their stellar, according to CNBC reporting, first quarter financial report) they have robust earnings from their ICE/hybrid and Ford Pro (commercial vehicles) to subsidize their EV development. In late 2024 their new battery and truck plants will come online in Tennessee and Kentucky. The Oakville plant in Canada is being converted to EV production (new EV Explorer) and should start sales late 2024 early 2025.
Ford manufactured 77,959 Mach Es in 2022 so going to 210,000 run rate this year is impressive. Ford is trying to catch up to Tesla, but it will take some time.

I'm not sure they can sell them. Ford, with their markups and pricing have burned a lot of bridges. They also had a lot of MachE big issues. A major problem is that Ford dealers are marking up the price of their EVs and crushing demand and creating a lot of bad will towards customers. Ford is powerless to prevent dealers in the US from marking up prices to insane levels and limit the number of MachEs they can sell simply based on price. Ford needs to push out as many MaxhEs as they can make to trend towards profitability but their own dealers are sinking them.

    • @tomkomadina7390

@@ChicagoBob123 You're correct. It will be interesting to see if they can sell all of the planned production. Earlier this year the waiting time on an ordered vehicle was 18 to 22 weeks and only certain models were available. Ford just opened up the configuration and ordering site again. Today they show order to delivery time as "varies".
The dealer "market adjustments" certainly are annoying. Hopefully as the production rate ramps up those will completely disappear. Personally, if I were in the marked to buy a car I would just refuse to pay such market adjustment and walk out the door. The time is coming when they will be begging people to buy a car. I think we all should respond to their proposed purchase price by responding "well of course there has to be a market adjustment down from MSRP equal to the one you were trying to raise the price above MSRP". The dealerships that charge market adjustments have built a bunch of ill will with customers. We all have long memories however......

The large problem in the US is partly created by lack of infrastructure today which can be solved with investment- The problem with the oil company lobby's and the political situation which exists today is a different story altogether. Most of those that complain today do so because prices are beyond their finances and this is very real. But prices will come down just like they do with all items in new technologies. When you have my age, and always an early adopter, you remember how much you paid to be in the first wave of anything: VCR, CD, DVD, PC, mobile phone - where do I stop..... The same is happening with BEV already when you look at where they are today vs 10 years ago. I don't own a BEV today and live in Europe and absolutely don't like the Tesla minimalism but prices are holding me back now yet. Live in ideal conditions with a large house with solar array on the roof so electricity free, fuel prices extremely high, and all without greenhouse emissions. For the last 6 months over 50% of electricity in Spain has been with renewables and because of this prices are coming down fast. People should stop drinkinking the Cool-Aid from the oil companies.

Let's face it folks, the resale value of BEVs in the future will be crap. BEVs are likely to get better and better and cheaper and cheaper over the next 20 years. Let's say you hold your car for 10 years then try to sell it.... most likely you may not be able to get anything but the cost of the batteries out of it... the recycling value at that.
Today's cars will soon be like old battery drills that are 18v NiCd based. Almost worthless a few years later because the new ones are much cheaper and have much longer run times. You basically give them away when you are done with them.
ICE cars will be impossible to get rid of by then and you will probably have to pay a scrap yard to take them off your hands.
Oh and as to scrap yards.... what happens when no one is even keeping their old ICE cars going because gas becomes scarce? How do they stay in business when their inventory of used ICE parts becomes worthless?

The achilles heels of the Mach E is the interior space (boot size in particular....I mean that is why you buy an SUV over a sedan right?) being quite a bit less than the Tesla model Y, and the slower charging speed from 10% - 80%. Ford needs to shave off 10 minutes from that charge time.
It seems that their battery cooling system has issues causing the charging speed limits as well as limiting the GT model to only 5 seconds of full throttle. Tesla does not exhibit this behavior.

Perhaps it's finally sinking in that Ford's electric vehicles are not selling , they are just sitting inventory. Why are people not buying them? Because most people do not want the problems that come with an E.V. ...the shortened range, the high cost, the rapid devaluation , and the high costs of re-charging them in the future when power rationing comes into effect ( like in the wind and solar state of California).

Problems with EVs? Not really. I have had my Tesla S for 4 years, and the only maintenance is a cabin air filter (which I haven't bothered with). No oil changes, no transmission service, no bringing my car to a public area to refuel it.. I don't even have to worry about catalytic converter theft. I plug it in at home and I have 300 miles range. I will never go back to an ICE car. And rapid devaluation? I can get about what I paid for my Tesla after 4 years and 60 thousand miles.

@@ohger1 All fine and good...if you don't really drive anywhere. But lots of people drive long trips. I happen to drive 500 miles to the nearest urban centre, and sometimes it's -35 degrees with a 40 mph headwind...that's why nobody here will ever buy an E.V. Btw, E.V. or not, you still need alignments, front end parts etc etc etc...and how about those mandatory upgrades from Tesla? An engineer I know from Silicon valley went to go to work one day...but he got a message on his screen that he needed to fork over $1500 or he couldn't drive his Tesla car...not sure which model it was. Then there's the poor build quality, electronic glitches of all kinds, some of which have proven to be fatal.

@@markanthony3275 No such thing as "mandatory" updates pr update charges unless it's an option the car didn't originally have. I think your engineer friend should get off the weed. As for suspension repair, that has nothing to do with drivetrain. But BTW, brakes last 150K miles on a Tesla. I'll probably trade this car in before it needs any service of any kind other than tires and maybe the 12V battery. And 500 miles to the nearest urban center? Do you carry cans of fuel? I never had any car with a range past 350 miles.

@@ohger1 My engineer friend doesn't do weed, and from reports I've read elsewhere, he's not the only one who's been hijacked. When I fuel up my the 50 litre tank in my Honda Civic I can get 500 miles as long as I obey the speed limits and the temp is warm. I work mining nickel for Tesla and GM in Northern Manitoba , Canada and it's almost 500 miles to the nearest urban centre...I can make it there and still have 50 miles of range left. One day this winter I'm gonna take one can of gas and try it on one tank. You do not and you will not see any E.V.'s where I live and work...and to believe that battery technology will improve drastically is an unproven assumption.
