Great video I know all about mucking stalls that is were the men are men and boys are boys not easy about farming but the rewards are awesome when you reap your bounty have a great day and thanks for subscribing to my channel I really appreciate that.
Have a baby, they said, it'll be fun, they said. Now you have a faint idea of what labor and delivery can be like!!! Listen, I tried to take that pitchfork to help you, but you wouldn't let loose of it because you were A Man On A Mission!!! Your farm is BEAUTIFUL and I'm eating my heart out and hope we can find a beautiful place for ourselves when we buy a farm! I love your dear family and wish you blessings!♡♡♡ Sue
Haha such a crack up! Those goats are SO happy on new forage! I need to work on my water intake... I've been feeling the dehydration lately. Thanks for the reminder!
Love it! Thanks for acknowledging the physical exercise benefits and staying in shape. I frequently argue that 'gardening activities' (Broadly defined, I could make the argument that mucking the stalls is a gardening activity) can be a a means of getting exercise and burning a significant number of calories.
This was another great video, Ryan is so funny and a great teacher! Have a great Mothers Day Rose, you deserve it. I lost my mother when I was young and just love to see you working hard and raising your kids and goat kids, its a great influence. Thank you.
I just love your goats! This video is inspiring me to set up temporary paddocks so we can move our goats around our brush to help us clear some areas + to give them yummy food! Do you have a link to the electric fencing you're using?
So! Here I am, as promised. I don't know if you can keep up with comments on old videos or not, but I just subscribed (based on your comments on Justin Rhodes' latest video, 8/9/18). This was a great introduction for me to your channel. It was a treat watching how voracious the goats were on their new stretch of land. And although I'd heard a lot about deep bedding, I had no idea just how deep those stalls can get. It was interesting seeing how you treat the cleaned out stall with lime. Black gold, that stuff you raked up!
And you know what, you all still keep saying that it's so much fun :D so I still keep on dreaming about starting our homestead one day! Thank you for the water tip, by the way! Even though we don't have 8 hour long workouts, we still drink too little... Take care and keep up the good work, and especially go on inspiring us to homestead too ;) Blessings and greetings from The Netherlands, Diana
It is hard work! I learned to go in everyday and clean so it doesnt get so deep. Some folks just dont have the time to do that though..... That said...you did a great job!
Hello, I'm coming from Justin Rhodes' vlog. I just finished watching you guys at the GRAFT. I really like your energy and spirit AND hospitality towards the Rhodes family. Count me in as your latest subscriber. 😄
Beautiful mess for the compost ! (next time put a tarp in the truck 1st and you can pull/slide out the bottom 8-10 inches ;-) ) Looking forward to watching more of your videos.
New subscriber here. Thanks for subscribing to my channel! Wow! You have a beautiful homestead! We had two goats when my sons were growing up. They were a lot of fun and a lot of work at the same time....and we only had two! Bless your heart, you have your hands full! Looks like fun though.
Well deserved . Homesteading has so many good points but it is backbreaking work. The harvest you reap is not free a lot of blood, sweat and tears go into it. A well deserved hot shower and farmers cheese. I spray painted my T post fuchsia...very visible..
This is one of the reasons I wish we had more than 1 acre of land. Those are some happy goats, and man they did a great job on that grass! If we set it up right we can utilize as much of our front, back and side yard to rotate a couple Nigerian Dwarf goats...Maybe next year. Still have a lot to learn and study about goats. Subscribed also!
Soo does that mean you're a mucker trucker? LOL looked like a lot of work. I guess i've fallin' into the trap I heard all the "it'll be fun" etc. and now i think i'm hooked. The learning curve is high but with y'alls videos I'm encouraged! Thanks for sharing -Nate
Happy Mother's Day to your wife. How often do you have to do the mucking of the stalls? Hard work but think of the money you saved not having to buy a gym membership. Enjoy al the Wholesome Roots videos. Thanks and God bless.
We do the deep litter up here in Northern New York during the winter. Then cleaning weekly during the other three seasons. It really is a pain to clean but so worth it. We are interested in the fencing like yours. That is a good tip with the color and staying with white. Thank you. Love the title and it is so true.
I thought about goats, but sheep were crazy enough for me for a while. Pigs are just as challenging. Have you tried Boysen berries? No thorns and they are huge. I use the same type of white fence as you do here, but it costs 50% more here. Our sheep would jump right over the top of the fence, but the pigs just do not care and get zapped and smile the whole time. If you have the room the way they set it up here is to set up a sweeping fence in a big circle like a radar screen and then you just move the fence in the center once every few days. It works well for cattle too. Mucking out the pig pens is a chore to say the least. We never get that hot here in the South of Chile, 88F is a high for us and 32F is a low with an annual average of 70F. I remember the hot in South Carolina though and we used to put a frozen gallon jug on the fence post and as the day progressed it melted and you have cold water all day long. I wish I had your truck. I use a wheel barrow to do all this same stuff and it is hard work. This is a good reason to keep all the animals in the pasture that you can. Thanks Jim
We have the same problem with foxes...... not the jimmy hendrix type... I use a 12 ga with 2 shot and it seems to help keep the chickens safer. Thanks again. Jim
Y'all are hard working homesteaders! Love your videos... You always share at least one thing I learn from your videos! Happy May... how were the berries? The EARTH GYM is great exercise! Great Reminder about how much we need enough Water... water is life! Thanks for the reminder!
lucky goat on such beautiful fresh pasture! We move our goats weekly as well, but our landlord keeps mowing the lawn here despite our requests that he let it grow for our goats, so they really only get the benefit ofr lower worm load by frequent moving. Oh well. Whew what a big job mucking stalls! But so worth it. we don't have a barn, our goats just have a pallet shelter we move with their fence so I can't do deep litter.
Thanks for the reminder! I need to go clean out our barn as well. Do you think there are any goats that are potty trained? It amazes me how they will not hesitate to drop a load right where they sleep... uggggh!
that is one nice pitch fork. I bet that load is 2+ tons of deep litter. How often to muck out the stalls? I like to clean out my deep litter chicken coop every fall. Its not that deep tho. good job great stuff you got there to mulch your garden with.
Could you dump oats on the ground , and scatter them about two inches thick, then water with a sprinkler to sprout . Your animals may eat the forage and roots like my beef ! We use oats as a cover crop and they grow so fast . And we have spillage at the elevator a little test pile would be fun ? To much will go sour.
Um going over some of your older vids I have missed and have a question if you dont mind. Do you do deep litter all year round? Mostly in the UK we only do it in the winter and as that is where I have been brought up I was going to do it like that when I finally move to GA and get our homestead.
Look at that herd!!! Beautiful!!!
+ART and BRI thank you so much!!! I love them!
It really is a beautiful herd. You should be very proud of them all.
Excellent video. Keep it up!
You just took the romance out of homesteading... hardcore reality about the amount of work involved. Nice video!
Thank you!
Great video I know all about mucking stalls that is were the men are men and boys are boys not easy about farming but the rewards are awesome when you reap your bounty have a great day and thanks for subscribing to my channel I really appreciate that.
I love the title of the video. The goats are happy in their new home.

Hard work well done, Ryan, get that shower and eat some of that delicious cheese if there's any left. :)
Thank you! Mozzarella didn't make it 24 hours! Gone! We have some farmers cheese left for him to enjoy!

Happy Mothers Day!
Susan Paulson thank you!
Like the rotational grazing, I think I'd figure out a way to drag mobile stalls from place to place leaving the muck behind to grow plants in!
Thank you!
