The crying goats crack me up! I have several criers here on my homestead. When we have visitors on our homestead they hear the goats crying and think it's my baby crying. Nubians are such drama queens and I love that about them. Great video. Keep them coming.
Thanks for showing us your methods Rose. I have to say the milking machine seems a pita. I imagine you have to sterilize the tubes and everything each time. Awesome vid!
Guildbrook Farm | Simple Sustainable Living yes, it can be but it's pretty easy to use and clean. I only use it when I separate kids and need the break on my hands. milking 6-7 goats is a lot harder than 1-2 for sure.
I am happy you found nice bags for all your milking equipment. I went with a lovely basket. It took me a while to find the perfect one. (yard sales, fleas markets). But after three years the bottom is starting to separate. Heck Yeah, I will sew it before next milking time, lol. Thanks for you videos. Film more of your two legged kids. Make them movie stars.
Good video Rose. Those poor babies and mamas, I can't take the crying lol :( I'm a wimp, that's why I don't separate. I've got 1 with huge udder and tiny teats.. so hard to milk kills my hands too. Thanks for sharing.
hello you guys at wholesome roots !! great advice and information about how you milk your goats !! thanks for sharing and happy gardening and homesteading !!
I wish I was closer to you, I would love to add your momma goat that you want to re-home. But that's the way the cookie crumbles. Maybe one day I can get one of your goats, that's my ultimate goal. Can wait to see your garden after Ryan get done with it. You have a very nice friend that let you borrow her tiller. That's awesome.
Wholesome Roots how much do you want for her. How could I get her bred again. I would love to start my herd with a couple of your goats. You can private message me so we can talk if you want to. Thank you.
Goats seem a great way to go but my husband and son both say they hate goat milk. Maybe it was the wrong kind...I don't know. However, I'm thinking about going ahead and getting some anyway so your videos are great.
Really good video! Thank you. This is a dumb question. At what point do you combine milk? Right in the barn? After it has been chilled? After straining it? We have only ever milked one at a time but soon I think we will be milking both our does. Thanks!! - Mike
I haven't commented for a while, so I'll try to answer Pratt. When to combine the milk? It depends on a few things. First it is important to get milk chilled ASAP. She has a bucket of ice water in the barn so there was no rush. She also likes to measure a couple of her goat's milk, so she kept those goat's milk separate. The new milker was added to the other's because it wasn't important what she got, just that she is starting to train the goat to the stand. Inspection is important. You must watch for 'pink milk'. I do just about the same as she does. That brake bleeder pump works nice. I moved up to the electric rechargeable one because of my arthritis. Best milk in town, I say. I love this Lady and her family. Her Hubby is a Dream, isn't he?
Pratt Family Homestead if I'm doing a full separation milking I like to look at each does output so I tend to separate by jar in the barn. but when I have no separation I have less milk so I combine as I go being sure to check first couple of streams of milk for anything abnormal. thanks for watching!
Thank you for such a video it was educational and I learned a lot from you thank you for sharing I have just couple question what kind of milk machine do you have how much it costs is there different ones just curious thanks again and God bless
