You have to try out a German made Warwick, especially the thumb bass. My personal favorite and the pickup configuration is unique and has such a pleasant and extremely versatile tone. Its also crazy comfortable. I can play faster and more accurately on my 5-string thumb than some 4 string basses lol!
The Warwick basses build in Germany round the nineties are fantastic.

Great video! I’ve had two warwicks and miss them both! I had the corvette $$ with the switches and the NT thumb 5 I loved them basses so much! Definitely get your hands on that $$ corvette with the series/parallel switches!!
My friend, I've owned a 1996 German made thumb through neck 4 string. It was awesome. I also owned a frettless version of the same bass. I sold them a few years ago. (No f##&*g way! Lol)
I've just set up another home studio and have bought the exact bass you're using in this video. Sooooo impressed considering its a relatively low price compared to the thumb basses.
However,.... the thing that stands out about this video is you.

I have a 2007 just like this, but natural! Its super light, and incredible sound.
I have an entire wishlist dedicated to pro-grade instruments I'd want to own. This bass made the list.

Awesome review, Patrick. 😎🤘🏻🎸 I’ve always like the look and sound of the corvette basses. Personally I like rock bass version because they use alder bodies and I’m a fan of alder along with mahogany. I’ve been interested in the rock bass corvette at one point. More particularly the corvette $$ bass mainly because I am intrigued by the the 2 mm-styled pickups, but I like the regular corvette bass with the jazz pickups too. Anywho, this is bass sounds awesome and the blue finish looks nice. If I were to get a Warwick bass, I would definitely go with the corvette.
I played one the other day, I really liked it. I'm about to buy a MIM Fender jazz, but I will be getting this shortly after.

Man, I remember when the Rockbass line came out and were really poorly regarded. I figured that with modern manufacturing techniques they'd be vastly improved by now, and I'm so glad to see that it's come true. Probably going to be a Rockbass Corvette in my future. Great video, Patrick!
I have the five-string version of the RockBass Corvette. Comfortable to play with plenty of punch with the MEC stacked humbucker J pickups.

I got a Corvette Standard 5-string from 2001 made in Germany, the neck got warped, even though I take very good care of my instruments (I got 6 electric and one acoustic basses). I did not try to fix it myself, I took it to one of the best luthiers in my town, but no luck. All my other basses are working properly and they 'live' in the same environment.

I have this exact bass from 2018, it’s amazingly comfortable to play and sounds great in any musical genre. I messaged Warwick to say how much I loved it and how impressed I was, imagine my shock when I got an email back from the main man Hans Peter Wilfer thanking me for the kind words and thanking me for buying one of his basses. You can get a German made one for less than the price of a new RB, go second hand 👌
The warwicks also place their neck pickup a bit further towards the bridge, which gives more mid and honk goodness!
That intro song would be an awesome background track for a side scrolling action game like Ninja Gaiden or Contra!
You can also try the Fame Baphomet series from Musicstore in Germany. They're made in Poland for that store only and specs wise they are pretty much a Warwick... And they cost around the same as these Rockbass...

I bought this bass to a friend of mine for 400 euros with a case, strap and two sets of strings. I play guitar but I also want to learn how to play bass. It's soooo amazing. Besides being short scale makes everything easier. I just love it, a total keeper!

Any input on a rockbass corvette $$ vs the standard corvette? Are they much different?
I am looking for a light(er) bass (currently using Ray34ca - its almost 16lbs) for Drop C , wondering if this bass's nut will need filing for the low C, which would be around 120 / 130.
How would you compare the neck in regards to size to a jazz or p?
Its surprisingly hard to replace strings with the Warwick 3D bridge. l had to watch a Warwick video to discover you can lock the string end into the tuner - until then I was struggling as I don’t have three hands to keep the string in place at bridge, nut and at the tuner so it kept falling out as I was trying to get up to tension. Normal Fender bridges don’t have that problem as you but the string through a hole! Also the RockBass might have an advantage over the German Warwicks as it is presumably lighter? The German Corvette looks / sounds great but is is very heavy even as a 4 string?

These do have 1 (one) issue, and it's the tuners. They have a habit of breaking after years. They will last a long, long time, but my German Corvette from 2006 recently launched its G tuning peg at my face while I was restringing. Otherwise, immaculate instruments. I own 2 of the german-made ones, one of the 4 strings in burgundy red with black hardware and a 5 string which I just recently bought. Easily my favorite instruments

I like the Corvette cause when I was testing one in a shop the owner said my sound recalled Pastorius !!!! :) that was some sort of cheesy client-flattering attempt, I'm not even a 0% of Jaco's bass playing... anyway actually I recall a very defined bridge pickup (normally I don't just like the bridge sound, but that time I liked digging in with the bridge pu). I had a Korean streamer and it had an incredible sustain, only a bit large neck for my small hands and a bit heavy, probably the Corvette is lighter and maybe more small-hands friendly?

@@user-dg4yq5wr2f I bought it new through reverb! I got a 2018 model (which Is literally the same as the 2022 model) and I'm in love! Just watch out cause there's a passive and an active model! Make sure you get the active one!

@@user-dg4yq5wr2f Yup! Active preamp! It's a 2 Band EQ but it gets the job done! I've come to realize that the pots are very sensitive (at least on my particular bass) so a slight bump goes a long way!

I had a warwick rockbass vampyre and I had to sell it because the neck wasn't flat, I sent it to many luthiers but none were able to repare it, the sound was incredible but unfortunately the neck was bad.
How much does it weigh?

From personal experience, Warwick basses are hit and miss when it comes to that something special. I've had a Rockbass Corvette that was great if you ignored some fret defects and the fact that I just didn't feel a 5-string back then. I had a thumb that I just didn't vibe with at all which I got rid of. Now I have a 5-String passive corvette with a single coil and a MM pickup that I'm sure is going to join my hot rod jazz bass in the lifer club.
Just a word of warning. The bridge works a treat when set up, but setting it up is so fiddly that even I work on some basses, I'm reluctant to work on other people's Warwick.

Patrick, you ever gonna check out Sire basses? Just bought an M2 5 string, and while it definitely is different from what I'm used to, and I'm no totally sold on the preamp, it's very nice, especially for the price. The neck though, CRAZY.
Oh yeah he already did, he cut the headstock to look more like a telecaster bass headstock. Even wrote “Sorry Marcus” on it
You can actually adjust the string spacing pretty significantly at the bridge. If you look at 4:41 towards the top bridge, you'll see the string sitting on a saddle with two allen key adjustments on either side of the string. You loosen those and then slide the saddles left and right. If you move the highest and lowest string furthest to the outside and adjust the strings in the middle it's a big difference. I have a 5 string thumb bass and even with 5 strings you can really push them out.

I have a 2006 corvette and idk why, my sound is too much warm, miss high end even with treble boost and I absolutly don’t know why..
Stock pups? Pots are 250k or 500k?

I recently got one of these in a 5 string. I was wanting the ocean blue color that’s on yours, but I got a satin black for 900$. Hands down the best bass I’ve played so far.

I tried the rockbasses when they first came out and they were pretty bad. First impressions matter and i never tried another. Its nice they have improved but im nowhere near a dealer anymore.
I have a Corvette 2007 and this model is the unique I think i will never sold... too much value for the price!
I have the $$ and it was my favorite until I got a Spector ns pulse. Now that’s my favorite
Those Spector basses are super overpriced IMO. Lots of issues in those mid priced models

Have they changed the outsource company they use to make the Rockbass line? Looks like they have made a step up in quality compared to the ones of a few years ago, those were really overpriced and poor copies of the proper German ones.
An adjustable nut?!? Every bass needs one of those.
the main reason why Rockbasses sound half as well as they might with a brass or Tusq nut.

First thing to do with a Rockbass: GET RID OF THE JUST-A-NUT.
I had one, a poor luthier broke it, and to make up for the damage he changed it with a solid, non - adjustable graphite nut.
The bass sounded twice as better.

It is obvious, because the sound as vibration passes from the strings to the wood: if it has a good medium (such as solid tusq, brass, or even good graphite) it gets to the wood easier and louder. The just-a-nut has two pieces that are held together by two screws, with almost no surface contact between the upper and the lower piece.

Never been a big fan of the Corvette design. I'm sure it's an outstanding bass, but it's top horn looks a bit "prosthetic phallic" to me.
$1200 for a china bass seems a bit steep. But, I hear Warwick ships their imports models for inspection to a Germany facility before hitting the shelves.
Only major difference between the german warwicks and the Chinese is the wood and the place of manufacture. all of the rockbass warwicks come with the same hardware and electronics as the german ones
Warwick are hands down my favorite basses. I have owned a bunch of different ones over the years and I have loved them all for different reasons. I currently have a German made Corvette $$ 6 string that is easily my favorite bass I have ever owned. I used to have the 5 string version but I lost it to a pawn shop years ago and was devastated so when I had the chance to pick up the 6 string version used I had to jump on it. Now I'm thinking about selling my Spector so I can get a fretless Warwick. I used to have a 5 string fretless Thumb bolt on that was amazing and I really want something similar even if its a different Warwick model. They pretty much all have that unique Warwick sound just slightly different flavors.
How do you lose as instrument to a pawn shop? Were you robbed and couldn't prove ownership?

Just my 2 cents.. Warwick tuners are garbage and break quite easily.
Which is VERY weird to me, since all their other parts are superb.
Basically, that's the only weak part of all the Warwick basses (included the German-made ones).
My 2002 Thumb had 3 of them replaced before I got it several years ago, and recently I broke another one off.
Luckily, Hipshot make the Ultra-Lites that are a drop-in replacement.
I had one of these for years. A $400 Sterling is better quality. The Warwick sounds great but is overpriced
