VERY good walkthrough. Took me very minimal effort to do this. Ran into zero issues. Everything came apart and went back together smoothly. Minus dropping the nut that holds it in and having to pull it all back out just to retrieve it. Haha. Simple shit.
Can i ask what made you know to change the ignition switch? My 300c has just started misbehaving and sometimes i go to crank and once ive turned the key there is no noise (start up) what so ever. Completely silent , would this fix do you think?
@@samanthaperez4600 hi thanks for reaching out, fortunately my issue was simple corrosion on the connection to the starter motor under the car. Just needed some rough sandpaper and its been great since. If your symptoms are same as mine above then start there

Umm, well all my gauges and lights are as normal. Make sure you turn everything on like the a/c, headlights, radio and honk the horn...just to make sure it's not your battery. When I turned my key it made no noise at all. Now how to tell if it's the Starter or the ignition I have no idea. My mistake was changing the Starter 1st which was more expensive and was not the issue. I suggest to you to go with the ignition 1st. Not the part where the actual key goes inside of, but after pulling that piece out as explained in this great video, you will see a cone looking piece with a plastic stick at the end of it. That piece was broken so I changed, here is link for picture... m.advanceautoparts.com/p/dorman-oe-solutions-ignition-actuator-pin-924-739/10563203-P?searchTerm=actuator+pin&vehicleIdSearch=357482&isAllVehicle=false I also changed the black piece at the end of that that a cable attaches to it, looks like a small horn, sorry I don't know the name of part dude. I believe the lock cylinder cover that surrounds the ignition switch is broken, it is not secured and flush with the section of the dash that holds the key area.. can i purchase the lock cylinder cover and just pop it on so the key will remain secured??.. I have a chrysler 300c 2007 5.7. Thank you for any help you may provide to me. I do have pictures i can send of the unsecured and what i believe to be broken cylinder cover.

...also when you turn the key make sure you are in a quiet environment and try to hear the fuel pump make it's noise. It should still make some weird noise when you turn the key. This noise will come from under you so listen carefully for it just to rule that issue out.
I’ve got a 2013 Dodge Avenger 3.6. I don’t see the tab that you would press to release the lock cylinder. Do you have any tips for removing the cylinder on avengers?
i dont know if this same problem ive got, rac put a wire to fuse box and live and car started so not battery or starter motor, do you think this is the problem thanks dave
Thanks for this video , I think this could help as my 300 has the ignition coming on over night and flattening the battery with out the key , ad sometime the ignition won't turn off when the key comes out. Hopefully changing this ignition switch will fix it
I have a 2005 Chrysler 300 and I’m having the same issue with it not cranking. The dash board lights comes on and I also hear a ticking sound from under me. I put a new starter in for $275. But it still didn’t work. I’ve just looked at your vid and there might be hope. Do you think changing the switch pin will solve the problem?
@@HowtoAutomotives it anyway i could crank it by bypassing the ignition some how? fuel pump good, starter good, battery good, engine good and the only thing that has not been tried is the ignition key. when you talk electric to the machanic its not much infomation coming from there. one guy told me it was my fuse box and i had it tested and it wasnt the fuse box. i put my key in into the ignition turn it to on position and when i go to start i get nothing but a click noise from under the hood.
2006 Chrysler 300 3.5 rwd. The car will not start by turning the key or a back up key that’s programmed but it will start with the auto start, I can then turn the key and drive and the car and the blower motor does not work - The temp control unit background lights light up but the the blower motor doesn’t turn on nor does the rear defog. I was thinking actuator pin or switch but not sure. Also. Do I need to have the keys reprogrammed if I replace the pin or the switch? I’d appreciate any feedback as to what you think. Thank you!!
The connection where the ignition pin meets with the switch had started to melt. The pin in that same area was coming apart. What are the possible causes?
Great video. I have a 2006 hemi and it sometimes stalls when i just want to drive away or waiting for a traffic light. And when i drive it sometimes holds in a second and goes further again,like i switched the ignition off and back on real fast. Could it be something in my ignition? It gives no fails on the dash. You gonna have to use the original one because it’s programmed for the security system. You can use the new one but you probably have to have it program
Just wondering, what brought you to the car needing the switch? I believe my switch is toast, but can't 100% diagnose it, just know that there's power to the starter, it bench tested, and all I get is a relay click from the fuse box in the engine bay, starter solonoid and motor makes no noise, which makes me think ground switch is the issue

A little more info on this is whenever the door is open the dinger dings without the key in and the cd changer is operating ...It also drains the battery,,,but I want to change the whole ignition switch.
How to Automotive just curious if it’s my ignition switch. I recently got a new key for another reason and my car basically has a new starter cause it went bad a two years ago. I switched starter relays and still, it doesn’t start. When I’m trying to start it, it makes no noise what so ever. You can hear electrical components turning on but nothing.
Dude I hate to tell you you're not replacing the ignition switch you're replacing the ignition lock cylinder the ignition switch is the black module on the back of the lock cylinder wasted my time watching this
Hello I been having an issue with all my idiot lights going into a reset mode for no reason. After much research and luckily no short anywhere. It turns out the electronic ignition part is faulty. No issues starting or running the car. But I found the electronic part can be removed from the cylinder head. So same process only I didn't have to get a new cylinder. The electronic part is sold separately. It doesn't do it constantly. Lol I can just have the key to on and all dash lights reset like it's possessed. At times it resets like three times in a row. Then nothing for months. Bells going off lol. Just annoying. Have a 2006 300 limited that is pristine with only 111000 original. Great step by step video. Not hard to do. Maybe do an update showing the electronic plug in can be changed separate without getting the cylinder 👍

ed ven it’s possible but hard to know for sure with out Testing. I would start by pulling codes and go from there.

There was a recall on the fuel tank float that can get stuck and cause the issue you're describing. Check your VIN for recalls.

Very misleading, and also this only applies for years up to 2007. 2008 and newer uses plastic keyfob and switch.
