Lucky you that you discovered the Sweet as a teenager…I was already in my 20s when a “friend of a friend” introduced me to their music. I was a little kid when they were in their prime and my parents didn’t really introduce me to their music, if at all. Also because I live(d) in the States, I didn’t get to fully experience the glam rock movement that was happening in the UK. I was lucky enough to get Steve’s book personally autographed with my name in it with a personal message from him. For that, I’m truly grateful.
You can literally binge watch the band's videos and never get tired of them. They were a fantastic group. It's like they brought in the sunshine. Just a good time.

Andy Scott hit the nail on the head in his mention about all four band members having lead vocal style voices--this was among what made the Sweet musically unique in which they delivered their 4 part harmonies. The Sweet is synomous with music legends. Rest in peace, Brian Connolly, Mick Tucker and Steve Priest.

I have to think that their early, sugary sound set them back a little but they were on their way with their legendary B-sides and live concerts. Sad to say Brian couldn't keep it together and the band just wasn't the same without him. It's difficult to appraise talent, especially from a distance but for my money they were one of the most interesting bands of the 70's, showing sophistication, humor, and pop-smarts that far outpaced their peers.

If I’m not mistaken, “Action” was also successful, perhaps around top 20, 30 but I can’t swear on this. Also the B sides of Sweet’s singles were their compositions; some were crowd-pleasers. They’re among the reasons why I often say that I wish I was born earlier because I never had the chance to experience them live. I have a couple of their DVDs and CDs and have seen some of their concert videos and goshamighty do I wish I could have been there!

If you read the book, “The Man Who sang Blockbuster” by Brian Manly, you’ll find that it describes Brian’s life since birth. I don’t want to give away too much information, but as a child, he had meningitis and he was born to a teenage mother who gave him up for adoption. Because we didn’t have the medical technology like we do now, I think it would be safe to say that from the beginning, Brian’s health was already compromised, only no one knew that. Yes, his career and his life ended tragically and he is truly missed. Sadly we also lost Mick and Steve. “When a loved one becomes a memory, the memory becomes a treasure.”
I absolutely adored the sweet, I was in love with Brian Connolly. But together they were iconic. There’s not one member who’s poster wasn’t on my bedroom wall. I’ve still got the old 45’s and the original sweet fa album. I have slightly updated now with their music on both CD and iPod! I don’t think they really got the notoriety they deserved. Brian’s death was tragic, his life was equally heartbreaking, ( I have demons pretty close to his) My biggest regret is that I never saw them play live. Now three have passed away, Brian, Mick and Steve, may they all rest in eternal peace, yet rock out in heaven. Thankfully Andy is still alive. Thank you guys for the fantastic music, the entertainment and how much happiness and joy your songs brought me during years of my young turbulent life and continue to bring, in your immortalised music that never ceases to cheer me up. Funny story about the German fans. The original Sweet line up were such a great tight band musically comprised of a band of brothers all at the top of their game musically. Had they had the likes of Queens management they surely would have developed into one of the biggest Poprock bands of the 80s and had the financial success they deserved and worked so hard for.
I love these documentaries. They tell little details that we fans here in the US weren't privy to like the UK was. That story about the girls hiding in the bushes at Andy's house was funny (I'm sure his wife was NOT impressed though). Pretty good idea I must say, except I would be hiding in the bushes at Mick's house, lol. Long live the Sweet! We miss you Mick, Brian, and Steve.😘💔
