Such a sweet and lovely man, so honest. It's sad to see him so fragile in this interview, even though he's clearly a trier and wasn't going to quit on life.
The sweet opened the door for the punk explosion that followed, an absolutely fantastic band that were grossly underrated for their contribution to British culture.
I was in ninth grade with a classmate named Brian Connolly who also played in a rock band. We would have endless discussions about rock music in the early seventies. I loved the sweet and I loved and still love their videos and their music. Rest in peace Brian Connolly
Such a sweetheart. I dont know much about the band. My satellite radio has been playing them often recently. I do know the songs, but I never knew the same band played them. So here i am. Very intriguing band. Thanks for this
BRIAN WAS AN ICON..STILL IS...THE BEST FRONT MAN IN THE 70S CALLED THE GODFATHER OF GLAM....THE RECORD SALES, CONCERTS, CLIPS ALL PROVE THIS...MEGA STAR!!!
Crazy how music can transform a man! In the interview he was struggling to speak, slurring his words and shaking uncontrollably, yet on the stage he came alive, sang like he did as a young man and appeared as a rock star. It's a Rock & Roll tragedy, but such a legendary performer.
What a lovely loyal bunch (millions) of fans this man has got and very well deserved praised for this brilliant man god bless everyone misses you Mr Brian collonly.
Hate to tell you this, but that was lip-synced. It was far from an actual LIVE performance. I'm not taking anything away from what and who he was, but that was not a proper performance. I hate that he was such a tortured soul. I can have empathy for what he dealt with personally.
@@boutcha1 I hate to tell the person with hatred (of telling others things) ... but it's not lip-synced. I'm not sure why that's even up for discussion, as it is obvious he can't sing as well as the prime days. And that's not a knock on him, with everything he had been through. But if his producers or even himself wanted to use a pre-recorded vocal track, don't you think they would've found the original from the 70s or spent 100 takes getting it perfect? He's missing several notes here with his voice cracking often. It was live (for better or worse)
@@MrPook79 I agree that the vocals were different. I looked up the original song and the vocals are different. That said, it doesn't seem as though the electric guitars even have cords going to them. The special effects stuff and organ parts, I don't see how they could create that sound on a TV show. I think maybe Brian's vocals were the only thing that was even real in this performance. You know they can isolate everything in a studio. All they had to do was go through the motions. The organ guy seems to be in on the fact that they really aren't playing live. If this is LIVE, then where are the cords for the guitars?
Shocked to see a kind and respectful interviewer, who managed to ask difficult questions and get honest answers from him. Can you imagine what.this interview would have been like today 25 years later as any interviewer would have humiliated him to get their headline moment?
No humiliation here. All the stuff she brought up had been in the press and she just gave him the opportunity to put the record straight. And how could you not ask about the tremor. He was glad to explain it wasn't connected to alcohol.

Brian was such a great charismatic frontman and singer, I feel so thankful that I was growing up with great bands/acts such as Sweet, Slade and Suzi Quatro etc . Nowadays the whole scene is pathetic in comparison with what it was like during Sweet's heyday .
What was painful was to watch him coming out of the pub and staggering down the street everytime I went to the shops. He came to Uxbridge to drink - and from open to close because he was banned in the pubs in Berks. Everyone in Uxbridge knew him. I never approached him because I don't have much tolerance AT ALL for a drunk man. I used to see him around town a lot and it really was sad because he had SO much potential. The booze did him in in the end.

MrSparks20002 a great band period leave out the glam label
blackmore4, you may be right, if you say Marc = T.Rex!
Roy Wood and Wizzard
Give the interviewer her due. She treated him well, let him speak and did not treat him like an idiot. So much better than another I saw from this period when the interviewer played him for laughs
Andy Gaines absolutely spot on. Think her name was Jayne Irving??
Great lady interviewer, respect, beauftiful interview style.
I think you are referring to that journalist arsehole Mick Brown....such a tosser!!
I thought she was a bitch.
Who the fuck would treat him like that, what a piece of shit
There were/are lots of blonds but NO ONE was/is good looking as Brian. After all happened, he still looked and sounded so good here, raw talent indeed. Superstar indeed! Big credit to BC's Sweet band also, they also looked and sounded so good. 🤩❤💓💕
I grew up listening to sweet, Brian you are still part of my life and always will be, emblazoned in my memory.
Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster, Hellraiser... classic tracks from a Classic band. He was a top frontman and a sad loss to Rock n Roll.
I bought the cd absolutely brilliant the man at his best
these guys are a blown away me way fantastic vibe .

Born 03)01)1975 picture look younger 45 age no love is for the music The Blues jazz enchilada
nice meeting you
speechless
Such a sweet and lovely man, so honest. It's sad to see him so fragile in this interview, even though he's clearly a trier and wasn't going to quit on life.
GOD bless him for being so honest about his life. What a super sweet man.
RIP Brian... sorely missed... and a unique and great talent! I'm glad you were able to give it a go one more time before your way too soon passing.
The sweet opened the door for the punk explosion that followed, an absolutely fantastic band that were grossly underrated for their contribution to British culture.
Just a genuine, sincere, down to earth bloody nice bloke. From an Aussie fan RIP
Despite the health problems ,its obvious hes a highly intelligent, likeable guy and a pop star.
Hit the nail on the head
I think charismatic is not far from the point.
And a man with tremendous determination and fighting spirit !
What an open, honest & lovely man.
Thanks for this
One of the greatest rock singers ever.Great Brian.
BRIAN WAS AN ICON..STILL IS...THE BEST FRONT MAN IN THE 70S
CALLED THE GODFATHER OF GLAM....THE RECORD SALES, CONCERTS, CLIPS ALL PROVE THIS...MEGA STAR!!!
I'd go even further, the greatest front man ever. Great singer, great mover, so much charisma.
Many years ago I had a friend who had a really bad stammer but if he sang, the words just flowed
Grew up listening to the Sweet in the 70s. One of the groups at the time that gave "Meaning" to to our childhood years. What an intelligent man. What a humble man. What an incredible vocalist. What a legend!!!!!!!!! RIP Brian. You are still remembered the older generation.
Everyone has their demons, Brian just happened to have more demons than most of us.
I never have and will not judge Brian. I still totally adore his talents and personality.
Thank you Brian, from the world. The world was a better place when you were alive.....
Lovely comment. God bless.
well said, fame is indeed a monster.
TOTALLY AND ABSOLUTELY, MAN.
@@eamonnjackson1939 A nice guy that didn't deserve his fate.
Those glam rock days threw up some super groups with great music.
Sweet were probably the best of them all.
I just want to hug him. He was so vulnerable and he comes off as such a nice man.
This is so painful and sad to watch - but it's Brian, so how can I not watch it? Miss you, Brian. The world was better with you in it.
3forparker beautiful words, I totally agree. Cheers
So true, I respect you for these comments.
3forparker lovely sentiments we all miss Brian a great performer ....
Brian was the main voice on the SOUNDTRACK OF MY YOUTH................I so loved and respected this man and also SWEET as a whole, there will never be another
My two year old Grandson Loves Sweet and Brian . He tries his best to sing like him and the moves.❤️ Fox on the Run is his favorite and Ballroom Blitz.
Brian was a supremely talented singer and frontman; love the band!!
Great voice, great soul, great man. Rip Mr Brian Connolly!!!
Respect to the man for his honesty!
@ Paul Kavanagh: My sentiments exactly, Paul.
So very sad to see him this way. What a knockout he was, snake hips, blonde hair, great voice, the face of Sweet. My grandkids love their music, jumping all over the couch when we amp up Blockbuster! Awesome memories. ❤️
Still slim though, and beautiful full head of hair.
Got a bucket load of love for you Mr Connolly,Thanks for all the great times I have had listening to your songs.
This guy is just amazing...his voice is incredible.. super grateful for him
Too sad to watch but I agree...she was sensitive and respectful toward him.
i feel that she was too abrupt with him, & didn't give him enough time to elaborate when he seemed to want to explain.
@@76marji she probably had a director talking in her ear to move things along. I do get the impression she genuinely liked him though.
She wasn't abrupt. She wanted to give him as much time as he needed. She had a director telling her to move it along so it'll all fit into the time allotted for the segment
@@76marji I was struck with the same thought, too!
Brian still had a beautiful smile and he was so sweet
Denise Bohar yes the better
Nice pun.
@@bluesboy8237 Not necessarily a pun
@@proxy7362 He was in the band Sweet.
He was always the most charismatic singer in 70's pop/rock!
The man every 70's teenage boy wanted to be and every 70's teenage girl wanted to be with.
My god this is sooo moving never seen anything so real and touching rip to a great immense artist !!!
I' hurts so much to see Brian so.
My heart ist breaking to now that his life two years later will end.
I miss you so much, you have a great place in my heart. Every time I look Videos from the Sweet.
R.I.P. LOVELY BRIAN.
I HOPE TO SEE YOU IN HEAVEN
Great interview, Brian comes over as a top man considering everything he went through in life.
Gracias a gente como Brian Connolly, el Rock sigue vivo, y personas como yo, seguimos Rockeando! GRANDE MAESTRO! SE TE RECUERDA CON CARIÑO!
The Sweet may be gone, CDs may be gone, but their music never will. It's so sad to see Brian like this, especially after all the great music he, The Sweet and other bands gave us in the 70s. May be gone, but never forgotten. I still listen and dance through the streets to your songs. Your music and songs will live us as long as we are still here. God bless you, Brian, The Sweet and to all those who gave us great music, who are sadly no longer with us.
Nice sincere honest man, brought a lot of joy in his life. Rest in peace.
he is so honest and authentic!! I still love brian for being real in 1995 ❣
The longer the interview goes on, the more comfortable and relaxed he seems. Very good interviewer and he seems a truly sweet (pun intended) guy. Brings back childhood memories of their amazing music, so thanks for sharing this!
They do say the eyes are the mirrors to our soul, their is great sadness behind Brian’s eyes, so sad.
Charming man. May he rest in peace.
Ein süßer
Yes, a smile of disarming sweetness and a pain so deep that it made you bleed, a pain so deep that it made him wonderful...you would have surrounded him in your arms and held him tightly to you...Where he is now, gentle and honest soul, may there be only Peace, only Love...
Покойся с миром Брайан. Мы очень любили твои песни.
Good man. Normal. Confused. A few knocks. Self esteem coming through. Just like the rest of us.
R.I.P. Brian. We miss you.You live in our heart forever!!
It broke my heart to hear and see Bryan. Rest in Peace legend. We will always miss you.

Amazing performer who made The Sweet legendary kings of glam. Gone too soon at 51, a year following this heartbreaking interview. RIP Brian.
A very kind hearted talented person - bless him
Beautiful Brian Connolly. Thank you for your music, and God bless you.💕
Sweet angel Brian, you are missed and always in our hearts 💕
Your fantastic voice is unforgotten and your music never dies... 🎤🎶
R.I.P. with Mick and Steve
Beautiful man....as were all of Sweet. I really got what he said about ‘the fear’ making him stop drinking more than willpower. I nearly died from carbon monoxide poisoning and giving up smoking after 40 odd years was instant because of ‘the fear’ more than willpower. RIP Brian I hope you’re partying with Steve and Mick now. xxx 🎼
He seemed like good guy, and he spoke honestly about his past problems. He only lived for two more years. It's a shame. He is missed by the music world, and obviously by those who knew him. One of his original bandmates said that he had "A Big Heart". So obviously true.
@Redblade
NO! It was Steve who used those words! And to this day, I think Steve still misses him dearly!
@Redblade All Good! It's just that there was so much criticism pointed at Brian. A man that was gifted with an extraordinary voice! A voice that gave so many people great pleasure! All he ever seemed to receive in return was ridicule and heartache! Maybe that's one of the reasons he lost himself to alcohol! All I know is that I'll still be listening to the original Sweet's music until the crows come calling for me!!! LOL
He lied about his not drinking during his sweet days, that is why he got kicked out!
omg I'm sorry I found this...it's so sad to watch and listen to my heart throb like this...RIP Brian, we miss you
So sad but what an absolutely sweet and honest guy
Poor brian. Another tragedy of rock and roll, the 70's were magic and brian contributed to those great days.
Nice pun.
Yeah, I keep watching this over and over again, this was in 1995 and he was good then it happened in 1997, wonder what happened? Our beautiful Brian. Love everything about him. We miss you so much, Brian.
He'd been thru a lot but never backed down, that's why we admire him so much. He still looked good here. Man, still beautiful hair. You were the best, Brian!
Brian Francis Connolly, a LEGEND ! 🥰😍🤩😘from fans all over the world.
Valóban az volt! Soha nem felejtünk?
This man created some of the greatest music ever, the songs from my childhood that are indelibly etched in me forever .. Sweet is up there with the greatest bands of all-time, and for a period of time in the 70s, they released classic after classic after classic .. Very few know what goes into the creation and performance of great songs, and how it takes a toll on every cell in your body .. Thank you Brian, RIP to one of the best ever
You'll always be a legend to me Brian...always .
Er war ein so großes Talent, er hätte niemals so früh sterben müssen! my heart grieves seeing Brian in his condition back in 1995 .. such a shame seeing him shaking like that. Amazing that he could still perform on stage despite his illness
What a lovely interviewer...showed Brian the respect he thoroughly deserved. RIP.
The Sweet gave me some of the most precious memories of my life. I still watch their TOTP appearances regularly. Brian was taken too soon.
