perfect bike for exercising because it got no motor rolling restitance and its much heavier than normal bikes love that its like when goku went on that planet with heavy gravity for training xD
I bought one for my farm took the gears and chain off put the c7 das kit and accelerator on put it on power mode and I have some serious rough paddocks so put rubber tube repair patches in behind the battery to absorb the shaking as the battery rattled a bit and heavy use and I love it.. tears around 28 29 kph mostly and in ten weeks just on farm I’ve done over a thousand kilometres on it, no chain no pedalling no gears.. just electric.. round my cows up with it let them out in the mornings and run the dog on it.. doesn’t annoy the neighbours like dirt bikes do.. I just got the moscow as I didn’t want hydraulic brakes. Haven’t changed the original brake pads yet, had two punctured inner tubes which I just put heavy duty ones in.. awesome bike and I’ve only a small farm but I have a off grid lithium ion battery system in my shed that’s always charged 10 kilowatts and the bike just gets charged off it.. plus to update the battery to a moscow plus battery it’s like $660 whereas I was just thinking of getting another bike. I’ve thrashed this bike hard had heaps of crashes dislocated fingers and fractured my arm hit a tree (trunk) with it doing 26 kph and apart from pulling the gears and chain off and fixing a few busted spokes ... well it’s tougher than me.. I’ve had more damage than the bike.

I've ridden 4100 miles in 2 years exactly, and Canada where I live is 4700 miles wide! So I ride a ton around the city but having a farm one day would be awesome. Can you tell us how you learned how to repair flats on the wheel? I'm afriad the motor won't screw back in properly if I don't have a professional do it when I fix a flat tire

T he bike is worth its price. It Was NEVER meant for serious riding. It is meant for mild trail ride and asphalt. That's its intent ion. Comparing this bike to bikes costing 2-6 times more is just ridiculous.
Great review, thanks for taking the time to make it. It helps me understand the difference between a budget and premium bike. The all encompassing question, how far can I push a budget bike before I need to upgrade? How soon will I outgrow a budget bike? Do I really need to split with a lot of cash for a high end bike? I've spent over 20 hours researching all sorts of ebikes for my use case i.e. 80% bike path, 15% forest trails, 5% single trail - no black trails because of my knees. I'm so glad you didnt review the technical specs as they can be easily found. Your real world experience and thoughts are far more valuable. Awesum!
I’ve had a NCM Moscow Plus for 2 years and have done over 2,000km and I agree with the review, it has some shortcomings in some aspects but for my usage (mainly fire trails etc) it’s excellent and hasn’t let me down.
Agree with the people who say this isn't really meant for heavy duty off roading. I have the Moscow Plus and use it almost entirely on road or dirt paths and I love it. It's like the RAV 4 of bikes. Reliable, gets much better range than you'd expect for something it's size and can go on roads a road bike can't. But .. you wouldn't take a RAV 4 down ATV trails and you wouldn't take this bike down a super rugged trail.
@@basemalmsri5728 I haven't had issues. I put a plastic bag over the display when im riding to be safe though. I also haven't been out in more than a moderate rain.
@@dejenteamehayilamariyam7084 Not bad. Have 2200 miles on it. About 100 miles ago I finished a project converting the electrical setup to a KT one. Was getting a bit tired of the laginess of the assist coming off a downhill and the set speed nature of the assist level. Issues have been pretty minimal with the original bike parts. I had one display partially stop working when it was about a year old. Otherwise just a few broken spokes. The only leftover stock electric stuff, now, is the motor. I opened it up to add some grease a month or so ago for the first time. Not sure it was 100% needed but hub motors tend to fling grease away from the gears overtime, so did it for peace of mind. There was a lot of grease that was flung out of place so I'm glad I did.
@@danrook5757 - That makes sense. I just sold my Moscow and bought a Honda Accord used. The Accord does amazingly well on the mountains. I only had to replace 3 oil pans, but it does well on those bunny hops. The key is just to go to the junkyard and get as many oil pans as you can get for cheap. You will then own the mountains!
have both moscows, okay for modest trails, definitely not a downhill shredder, but a better starter bike than an expensive one. You should have experience b4 buying something very costly to replace.
Yea, no way is that eBike supposed to be ridden on those rough trails. I’m surprised the rear hub motor didn’t fall apart on you. For general riding and light trails though, it looks nice.
Good luck with the new Channel. I like your content because of the level of riding that you and your friends do. Reminds me of the group of people I have been riding with for the past 20 years. None of us are "Pros", but we enjoy riding. One suggestion for people looking to possibly get an eMTB. RENT. It is a fairly inexpensive way to get a taste of the different levels of bikes. My first actual ride on an ebike was when I was on a family camping vacation near Capitol Reef National Park, in Utah. I saw an e-bike rental shop in the town or Torrey, so I stopped in. The guy was just opening up of the season (mid April) and didn't have any of his real eMTBs built yet. So I ended up taking a Fat Tire ebike that he described as "for people to cruize around the dirt roads" I rented it for an hour and headed out on a road that went up into the bluffs near by. It was not a great bike, the fork sucked, if you tired to lift the front tire, it would clang when the fork came to the top of its stoke just as the wheel came off the ground. But It was fun. I got to the top of the bluff and looked over the town, then headed back. On the ride down I was amazed at the elevation I had come up. On the way up I wondered really how much the bike was helping (you just couldn't feel it much). But going down brought it into perspective. I returned it and decided that I needed to find a "real" eMTB to ride. I live near Lindon Utah where the Direct to customer bike maker Fezzari is located. I was thinking of replacing my 2005 Giant Reign with a newer bike. Fezzari makes an eMTB called the Wire Peak. I rented it for the July 4th weekend, since they were closed on Sunday, they didn't charge me for rental that day. That gave me the chance to try it out on a couple of my local trails. That is when I decided that my next MTB would be electric. I did my research and found a close-out deal on a new, in stock, 2019 Turbo Levo Comp Carbon (size large). Same frame and motor as the 2020 and 2021 Turbo Levos (and now thanks to Specialized and their motor issues I have a 4 year warranty on the motor). If you are just getting into eMTBs it is worth a couple hundred bucks to rent a bike or two to get a feel for how they work, not just in the parking lot. Then you can make the call on spending the your hard earned money on something that suits you.
Renting first is definitely a great suggestion. Just be prepared to bust out your credit card after you realize how much fun an ebike can be! Your experience is very similar to mine, started on a really cheap fat tire ebike and even with the low end quality it made me realize how much more fun ebikes could make riding!

Hi your video is the reason i bought the newer Moscow M3 and its an awesome e-Mountain bike ( not that many out there with my budget) doing all the GOOD stuff you have shown. The video pointed out enough of the good about the bike than you've given it credit for and that's what I was hoping to see even though we all know the NCM is no Levo or your YT. But the many trails beside the Black Diamond level like the Landmine Loop or the Mustang loop ( a must ride trail) we have here in Red Rock canyon Las Vegas valley, it handled like a dream as long as i take it slow. Good review! I ordered a Watt Wagons Hydra as my eMTB #2 after owning an NCM Moscow. The Decoy was up there on my decision list but I wanted the thumb throttle option and power of a Bafang motor.
Got one today perfect for the larger guys and girls as a commuter . At 150+ kg I'm not small and I smashed hills ive refused to walk up on assist 2 already ....lol I was still sweating and the heart rate was up , its a great bit of fun and a little boost is what I needed to get me out and about again
@@baggs081 hope it works out well for you. I have lost over 15kg by using mine (had it for a year) and now use it for most trips of less than 15 miles in each direction.
Awesome video I have a NCM Moscow plus it’s awesome for the price point added a suspension seat post that helps for the bumps one day like to upgrade for a Levo or Hibike only can dream lol
I've had a Moscow Plus (European spec) for just over a year and think this is a very fair and accurate review. I bought mine to ride on-road and light trails and it suits me very well, during the pandemic it has become my main mode of transport but it is true that it is not suitable for more extreme use which I've tried a few times (I have had the same issues as you). To my mind, it is great at what it is designed for but if you push it further it will not end well. I will probably buy a more expensive bike at some point for leisure and keep the Moscow for day to day use. I live in a hilly area and to be fair it is capable of climbing pretty much anything on a smooth surface. I'd say it is a good solid purchase if you understand its limitations.

@@gamerss7797 I have had no problem and know of nobody else who has. Some Chinese kit is historically of poor quality but they have improved massively in the last couple of years. They now produce more electric vehicles than the rest of the world put together. I hope yours works out well and safely for you. Mine was not made in China, it comes from Germany and used Samsung cells so I can't comment on yours specifically.

This was a terrific video. Made me subscribe and watch a couple of the others. You spoke of so many of the things that are real-life concerns when I'm trying to figure out what ebike to get and why. The NCM line had my attention and led me to your channel. For a first ebike -Prague/Moscow/MPlus? Live in Northern New Mexico, 60, casual road and mtn biker, dirt trails, gravel, fireroads, Windsor Trail in Santa Fe twice a year is about as single track as I ever get. I came away with the sense that the Moscow Plus would suit me fine for the level of intensity/terrain that make up my riding. Because money is ALWAYS an object, trying to sense if either of the two less expensive models would suit at 300-600 cheaper. Thoughts are appreciated. Anyway - human, accessible, informative video; so was the one about acoustic vs ebike workouts. Thumbs up to both you guys. Good dog, too. Make him a star.
Thanks for the support, and glad you found the video helpful! Based on what type of riding you do I think the NCM bikes would suit you just fine. I don't have any experience with the cheaper models but from what I had seen the biggest difference is mechanical vs hydraulic disk brakes. In my opinion that is probably worth the extra cost alone, unless you will mainly be sticking to flat trails. Whatever you get I'm positive you'll enjoy it, since ebikes are so much fun!
I really don't see the point in comparing this to a specialized Turbo mtb, it's budget class and probably suitable for some mild off-roading but nothing more. If this is your price point and you are serious then either use your legs or save up your $$s.
Unlike hi-end bikes this bike costs less is because it uses widely available basic parts, & not model specific parts found on hi-end bikes, the quality is very good for the price with plenty of power..
I also purchased the Moscow Plus 29". I watched your video and totally 100% agree with everything you said. It took me much longer as I have had the bike since early Spring 2020 and it took me 800 miles to come to the same conclusions as you did. I can't emphasize your point enough regarding how even a less expensive ebike like the Moscow Plus will get you out there and you will get some cardio benefit. Its a great bike! Very reliable and powerful, I bought a Moscow and is just great! I sold it and I buy it again but the MOSCOW M3 and its also wonderful, highly recommend it. His components are really good quality “not top” but definitely super good!
I literally got the Moscow today June 16 2021(NOT the plus) For $1490CAD to my front door, assembled and riding an hour later(all assembly tools included), a pretty good value. NO rear suspension so jumps and drops and really rough terrain are not what this bike was built for. For basic trails with a bit of climbing, and general riding this is good bike. Yes if you are a hardcore mountain biker wanting to crush Whistler every weekend, this is not the ride you want. I am happy so far and would recommend for the more casual rider. I bought mine with the intent of getting more riding and exercise, not to moped around on. - Cheers
I've got the Moscow plus, it's a made in Germany bike and I'm totally happy plus the Preis is great. If you want a bike to ride trails and downhill invest more money if you can, The Moscow is for very light street and park riding optimal.
Well this is no surprise is it. If you ride extreme trails a £1500 bike is not the right bike for the job. However, like people buy SUV look alikes that never see anything rougher than a grass car park, a lot of e MTB riders will probably use them on roads and cyclepaths with a little bit of soft off roading occasionally. At this level NCM excel. I have an NCM Prague (a lower spec model) and I can knock off a 30+ mile ride in about 2 hours (UK bike, 15.5mph assist and no throttle), bump up and down kerbs and get home without punctures. It will get me up 10% + gradients and makes me smile. But I wouldn't dream of taking it on extreme trails. If it was good for that who would spend the 000's required for the full sus mid drive bikes?
after all it's still a nice budget Ebike. I have the moscow without plus and I love it. but surely you can't compare it to much more advanced fully suspended bikes. For my needs in medium terrain and streets it's still very good. but I agree that you can't go on very extreme trails with it. For this, it is too heavy and stiff. Even I love it, I would of course not go an very advanced downhill trail in the alps with it.
I love my cheap emountain bike. I've lost 10kgs since buying it because I'm doing exercise and having fun. I'm old so I'll never do those hard trails, a fall would kill me, but I do a lot of easy off road trails and my piece of junk cheap ebike works great. I do the shopping with it too....what guy thinks shopping is fun? Me now. Two years in so far, when the motor clags, I'll get a sweet mid drive touring ebike.
I'm in Colorado too. Just moved here. I'm looking to get into emountain bike as well to get into some kind shape again. With 6 herniated discs in my spine, I figure an e-bike would be helpful. I look forward to the videos. Maybe show some beginner trail areas to ride throughout Colorado
@@muhammedeminaydin5543 Yes it is. You can "mini" tune it by changing its tire size to 20" in the standard Das-kit. So you have a speed of 31 km/h for free without buying a tuning chip or something. Ihave overtaken lots of much more expensive better bikes with it 😀 I love my moscow. For mixed mid-terrain and streets it's perfect and "cheap" and has a good range.
@@muhammedeminaydin5543 hey! Battery is quite good! It's said it's range is 120 Kilometer on paper. But in my experience in reality with some light mountains /hights its about 90-100 Kilometer. But after half a battery it's top speed is regulated down a little. So you have a speed of 25-28 km/h til it's empty. A minus is the charging-speed of the battery. it takes estimated 7 hours from empty to full charge. Keep in mind that I have the (cheaper) non-plus version with lower battery capacity. But for my needs its totally ok and I'm very happy with it until now. This could change having friends going to sportive rough trail actions. But for light/mid offroad / streets and mixed terrain it has all you need . Even in the non plus version. Edit: Jumping over some roots and stones nor hill climbing is no problem too. But it is simply not concepted for very high jumps or professional issues. I've modded it a little with a parallelogram seatholder which compensates it a little to make it feel more fully and "offroadable" but - naturally - there is a difference between a 5000 buck fully and this bike 😉 regards
Nothing beats a proper modern e-mountain bike. They are the best thing that have happened to humanity I think. You just have to try one in real life to understand what I mean. I love my bike and will keep abusing it till the wheels come off 😄
I can't wait to try my first one. I've only ever ridden the NCM Moscow Plus but the day I get to ride my first proper electric mountain bike I bet it's gonna be amazing. I love the NCM still
@@pharaohsmagician8329 I love hard tails so NCM was a great option for me. The Aspen+ comes with a decent entry level fork with adjustable compression and lockout, and fat tires which are the way to go really with electric assist bikes IMO. The biggest difference is NCM uses hub motor rather than high end EMTB which uses mid drive. That said mid drives are mostly 250W from what I've seen. My bike is a true 500W continuous which to me sounds even better....

@Love All hate none Only an idiot could have made such an uneducated comment. Only good for flat: then you don't need a front fork, large tires, a sturdy frame. It's pretty heavy: all e-mountain bikes are heavier than normal bikes. If battery dies: the Moscow Plus is one of only a few bikes in the market with a big 17Ah battery and if you let it die, it means you're an idiot. You must always check and know what is the range, you ride an e-bike or an e-scooter, it depends on you. Dead weight: again ALL e-mountain bikes are heavier also if the battery dies, you can pedal a hub motor bike like a normal bike.
You can't even get a CRAPPY mountain bike for 1200$ for hardcore trails let alone an E bike! BUT taking it through packed dirt or grass or better still bike paths this thing is BEAST!

Not sure the price of this bike, but I just bought a Specialized turbo vado sl for 3300 ! Its been a blast for last 3 months , fits 47mm x 650b tires. I ride trails and gravel and road. Comes with lights lifetime warranty on frame and a dealer right up the street.
We have the NCM Hamburg and the Munich they are 28 inch the Hamburg is a Mens and the munich is a step thru , They are great for what they were made for , Cheap transport Not realy for Track riding , we stick them on the back of the RV , I could have purchased a second hand Registered Road Trail bike ,I think i should have really but we have what we have ,, The biggest down side is the rear spokes they are shit We have snapped 8 so far 13 G spokes are not strong enough ,,, and we stay on the bike tracks (Sealed ) I will change out all the rear spokes with 12 g Rob NSW Australia
I have this bike over 3 years und for me it’s a durable frame with my weight, yes it’s not perfect but the range is great and for repair it’s easy. It’s a simple enough to stay on the road or sometimes off-road
Love the wife part lol 😂 love my new ncm moscow only paid 1000 and I did 20km in 48 minutes today! The bikes pretty beat up but it came with 2 batteries 1 19mah and the other one is 13 mah
I´ve put 3700 mi on the bike. At 72 not much into fast downhill, but this is a great uphill bike & a good general purpose bike. Heavier riders might want to swap out to beefier tires, but the price leaves room for personalization.

A better fork would help a bit, but the biggest issue is the overall geometry (makes you sit too straight up and forward) and the fact that hub driven bikes just aren't great for more advanced trails.
BUDDY you need a pro bike to resist this EXTREME descending 5000-15000k its like comparing Toyota tercel with Ferrari.The beautifull electric bike its for normal peoples riding in soft offroad not for the ones who want to let the brains on the rocks.......EVEN you change the fork its not helping you because the hub motor will get loose in one point, because its too much vibrations

NCM Moscow Dorado Battery failure with less than 20 charge cycles My NCM Moscow battery failed on the road, easy riding surfaces, not like some of the trails in this video, In just past 13 months of ownership (but less than 6 months of recreational, no winter usage, and less than 20 charge cycles on the battery) my battery failed… I explained to the seller, Leon Cycle, but they were firm on 12-month warranty. The battery goes on and off when shaken…anyone know a fix for this? thx...I agree, save your money, components and service are also important...and get a 2 year min warranty on battery. or you may end up with a huge bill just after 13 months.
I've had this for 2 years now, I wonder how it survived those mountain rides on your video, it's not really designed for that bro, mine had a badge on the front suspension saying not to use it for mountain rides!

Anyone have experience with that store or know where else has them? Seems like they are out of stock everywhere else. Also, I'm only 5'6 and don't know if I should go with the 26 or 27.5. Ebikes are great for commuting and cruising around (I have a Himiway fat tire for cruising around, doing a bit of off-roading and going into town), but I don't really think they're all that great for blue trails and up; yes, even the more expensive e mountain bikes. I think that even though the expensive bikes can have great mechanical parts and powerful motors, you still can't really compensate for how much heavier these ebikes are compared to a regular mtb. I've seen some e mountain bikes that are on the lighter side but they don't feel as solid.

I bought a Moscow Plus also last year. I like the bike, but I don't ride the same kind of trails most of the time. I did find the limitations when riding some more technical trails so I will also be upgrading but it was a great way to get started. Would still recommend it. Any suggestions on a decent mid drive that will not break the bank?
There is no such thing as full suspension good bike that won't break the bank. A good pair of Fox Front forks are $1000 alone. I'm not talking about the bike, just the front fork. I have not found a good full suspension bike for less than $4K.
@@thondadon2286 - Yes, it's fine for that type of work. Battery life will get you over 30 miles easily unless you don't want to peddle at all. Yes, it pretty comfortable, but if you going long distance, I would change the seat to something more wide and more padded. Overall, it's a great bike, but is not designed for heavy jumps. It's good for regular city riding.
I would imagine there were only 2 problems with getting much more advanced, expensive mountain bike like the LEVO your friend has: 1. Finding the right bike. 2. Talking the wife into it. Good luck.

There are. $600 ebikes with knobby tires. I think you're looking at top of the range bikes. Even without motors they cost thousands, because they are 10X better.
I've heard good things about Haibikes, but haven't personally rode one. If you have a little higher budget the YT Decoy Base 29 would be a great option. A lot of the 2021's aren't out yet, but once those come out there will be others to choose from as well.
YT Decoy starts from $4000 I think. They are amazing. You can also get a base model Giant. But prepare for 5k at least for a real nice one that is mid drive and PROPER bike. The rest will be point trash. Up to you. Good luck

You could, but It's more about the frame geometry and rear hub motor that are the main limiting factors on keeping it from being capable on harder trails.

@@tannerjack9520 don't get me wrong, the Moscow was still a fun bike and made biking enjoyable for me again. It's just not really cut out for the trails my group of friends are doing. I've seen that sondors, looks interesting but unfortunately wouldn't be allowed on trails in CO.

I have the Moscow Plus and use it for exercise and fun. To spend 5 to 10k on a bicycle to me is insane.

perfect bike for exercising because it got no motor rolling restitance and its much heavier than normal bikes love that its like when goku went on that planet with heavy gravity for training xD
I bought one for my farm took the gears and chain off put the c7 das kit and accelerator on put it on power mode and I have some serious rough paddocks so put rubber tube repair patches in behind the battery to absorb the shaking as the battery rattled a bit and heavy use and I love it.. tears around 28 29 kph mostly and in ten weeks just on farm I’ve done over a thousand kilometres on it, no chain no pedalling no gears.. just electric.. round my cows up with it let them out in the mornings and run the dog on it.. doesn’t annoy the neighbours like dirt bikes do.. I just got the moscow as I didn’t want hydraulic brakes. Haven’t changed the original brake pads yet, had two punctured inner tubes which I just put heavy duty ones in.. awesome bike and I’ve only a small farm but I have a off grid lithium ion battery system in my shed that’s always charged 10 kilowatts and the bike just gets charged off it.. plus to update the battery to a moscow plus battery it’s like $660 whereas I was just thinking of getting another bike. I’ve thrashed this bike hard had heaps of crashes dislocated fingers and fractured my arm hit a tree (trunk) with it doing 26 kph and apart from pulling the gears and chain off and fixing a few busted spokes ... well it’s tougher than me.. I’ve had more damage than the bike.
Awesome comment. I wish I had the skills to take apart and repair my bike and customize it like you do. I live in the city but I'd love to ride like you say one day. I've ridden 4100 miles in 2 years exactly, and Canada where I live is 4700 miles wide! So I ride a ton around the city but having a farm one day would be awesome.
Can you tell us how you learned how to repair flats on the wheel? I'm afriad the motor won't screw back in properly if I don't have a professional do it when I fix a flat tire

Great review, thanks for taking the time to make it. It helps me understand the difference between a budget and premium bike. The all encompassing question, how far can I push a budget bike before I need to upgrade? How soon will I outgrow a budget bike? Do I really need to split with a lot of cash for a high end bike? I've spent over 20 hours researching all sorts of ebikes for my use case i.e. 80% bike path, 15% forest trails, 5% single trail - no black trails because of my knees. I'm so glad you didnt review the technical specs as they can be easily found. Your real world experience and thoughts are far more valuable. Awesum!
I’ve had a NCM Moscow Plus for 2 years and have done over 2,000km and I agree with the review, it has some shortcomings in some aspects but for my usage (mainly fire trails etc) it’s excellent and hasn’t let me down.
Agree with the people who say this isn't really meant for heavy duty off roading. I have the Moscow Plus and use it almost entirely on road or dirt paths and I love it. It's like the RAV 4 of bikes. Reliable, gets much better range than you'd expect for something it's size and can go on roads a road bike can't. But .. you wouldn't take a RAV 4 down ATV trails and you wouldn't take this bike down a super rugged trail.

@@dejenteamehayilamariyam7084 Not bad. Have 2200 miles on it. About 100 miles ago I finished a project converting the electrical setup to a KT one. Was getting a bit tired of the laginess of the assist coming off a downhill and the set speed nature of the assist level. Issues have been pretty minimal with the original bike parts. I had one display partially stop working when it was about a year old. Otherwise just a few broken spokes. The only leftover stock electric stuff, now, is the motor. I opened it up to add some grease a month or so ago for the first time. Not sure it was 100% needed but hub motors tend to fling grease away from the gears overtime, so did it for peace of mind. There was a lot of grease that was flung out of place so I'm glad I did.
My Moscow plus 29” is awesome, still working great after 1350 miles, just brake pads .

@@danrook5757 - That makes sense. I just sold my Moscow and bought a Honda Accord used. The Accord does amazingly well on the mountains. I only had to replace 3 oil pans, but it does well on those bunny hops. The key is just to go to the junkyard and get as many oil pans as you can get for cheap. You will then own the mountains!

One suggestion for people looking to possibly get an eMTB. RENT. It is a fairly inexpensive way to get a taste of the different levels of bikes. My first actual ride on an ebike was when I was on a family camping vacation near Capitol Reef National Park, in Utah. I saw an e-bike rental shop in the town or Torrey, so I stopped in. The guy was just opening up of the season (mid April) and didn't have any of his real eMTBs built yet. So I ended up taking a Fat Tire ebike that he described as "for people to cruize around the dirt roads" I rented it for an hour and headed out on a road that went up into the bluffs near by. It was not a great bike, the fork sucked, if you tired to lift the front tire, it would clang when the fork came to the top of its stoke just as the wheel came off the ground. But It was fun. I got to the top of the bluff and looked over the town, then headed back.
On the ride down I was amazed at the elevation I had come up. On the way up I wondered really how much the bike was helping (you just couldn't feel it much). But going down brought it into perspective. I returned it and decided that I needed to find a "real" eMTB to ride.
I live near Lindon Utah where the Direct to customer bike maker Fezzari is located. I was thinking of replacing my 2005 Giant Reign with a newer bike. Fezzari makes an eMTB called the Wire Peak. I rented it for the July 4th weekend, since they were closed on Sunday, they didn't charge me for rental that day. That gave me the chance to try it out on a couple of my local trails. That is when I decided that my next MTB would be electric.
I did my research and found a close-out deal on a new, in stock, 2019 Turbo Levo Comp Carbon (size large). Same frame and motor as the 2020 and 2021 Turbo Levos (and now thanks to Specialized and their motor issues I have a 4 year warranty on the motor).
If you are just getting into eMTBs it is worth a couple hundred bucks to rent a bike or two to get a feel for how they work, not just in the parking lot. Then you can make the call on spending the your hard earned money on something that suits you.
Renting first is definitely a great suggestion. Just be prepared to bust out your credit card after you realize how much fun an ebike can be! Your experience is very similar to mine, started on a really cheap fat tire ebike and even with the low end quality it made me realize how much more fun ebikes could make riding!
This bike isn’t suppose to go on trails like this man. The ncm Moscow plus is the best, most reliable bike for literally only $1999. U can’t beat that

Hi your video is the reason i bought the newer Moscow M3 and its an awesome e-Mountain bike ( not that many out there with my budget) doing all the GOOD stuff you have shown. The video pointed out enough of the good about the bike than you've given it credit for and that's what I was hoping to see even though we all know the NCM is no Levo or your YT. But the many trails beside the Black Diamond level like the Landmine Loop or the Mustang loop ( a must ride trail) we have here in Red Rock canyon Las Vegas valley, it handled like a dream as long as i take it slow. Good review! I ordered a Watt Wagons Hydra as my eMTB #2 after owning an NCM Moscow. The Decoy was up there on my decision list but I wanted the thumb throttle option and power of a Bafang motor.
My Moscow plus help me to learn how to ride my bike again and how to operate an E bike and now I’m ready for my upgrade.

Got one today perfect for the larger guys and girls as a commuter . At 150+ kg I'm not small and I smashed hills ive refused to walk up on assist 2 already ....lol I was still sweating and the heart rate was up , its a great bit of fun and a little boost is what I needed to get me out and about again

I've had a Moscow Plus (European spec) for just over a year and think this is a very fair and accurate review. I bought mine to ride on-road and light trails and it suits me very well, during the pandemic it has become my main mode of transport but it is true that it is not suitable for more extreme use which I've tried a few times (I have had the same issues as you). To my mind, it is great at what it is designed for but if you push it further it will not end well. I will probably buy a more expensive bike at some point for leisure and keep the Moscow for day to day use. I live in a hilly area and to be fair it is capable of climbing pretty much anything on a smooth surface. I'd say it is a good solid purchase if you understand its limitations.

@@gamerss7797 I have had no problem and know of nobody else who has. Some Chinese kit is historically of poor quality but they have improved massively in the last couple of years. They now produce more electric vehicles than the rest of the world put together. I hope yours works out well and safely for you. Mine was not made in China, it comes from Germany and used Samsung cells so I can't comment on yours specifically.

This was a terrific video. Made me subscribe and watch a couple of the others. You spoke of so many of the things that are real-life concerns when I'm trying to figure out what ebike to get and why. The NCM line had my attention and led me to your channel. For a first ebike -Prague/Moscow/MPlus? Live in Northern New Mexico, 60, casual road and mtn biker, dirt trails, gravel, fireroads, Windsor Trail in Santa Fe twice a year is about as single track as I ever get. I came away with the sense that the Moscow Plus would suit me fine for the level of intensity/terrain that make up my riding. Because money is ALWAYS an object, trying to sense if either of the two less expensive models would suit at 300-600 cheaper. Thoughts are appreciated. Anyway - human, accessible, informative video; so was the one about acoustic vs ebike workouts. Thumbs up to both you guys. Good dog, too. Make him a star.
Thanks for the support, and glad you found the video helpful! Based on what type of riding you do I think the NCM bikes would suit you just fine. I don't have any experience with the cheaper models but from what I had seen the biggest difference is mechanical vs hydraulic disk brakes. In my opinion that is probably worth the extra cost alone, unless you will mainly be sticking to flat trails. Whatever you get I'm positive you'll enjoy it, since ebikes are so much fun!
I really don't see the point in comparing this to a specialized Turbo mtb, it's budget class and probably suitable for some mild off-roading but nothing more. If this is your price point and you are serious then either use your legs or save up your $$s.
Unlike hi-end bikes this bike costs less is because it uses widely available basic parts, &
not model specific parts found on hi-end bikes, the quality is very good for the price with
plenty of power..

Its a great bike! Very reliable and powerful, I bought a Moscow and is just great! I sold it and I buy it again but the MOSCOW M3 and its also wonderful, highly recommend it. His components are really good quality “not top” but definitely super good!
I literally got the Moscow today June 16 2021(NOT the plus) For $1490CAD to my front door, assembled and riding an hour later(all assembly tools included), a pretty good value. NO rear suspension so jumps and drops and really rough terrain are not what this bike was built for.
For basic trails with a bit of climbing, and general riding this is good bike. Yes if you are a hardcore mountain biker wanting to crush Whistler every weekend, this is not the ride you want.
I am happy so far and would recommend for the more casual rider. I bought mine with the intent of getting more riding and exercise, not to moped around on. - Cheers

The Moscow is for very light street and park riding optimal.
Well this is no surprise is it. If you ride extreme trails a £1500 bike is not the right bike for the job. However, like people buy SUV look alikes that never see anything rougher than a grass car park, a lot of e MTB riders will probably use them on roads and cyclepaths with a little bit of soft off roading occasionally. At this level NCM excel. I have an NCM Prague (a lower spec model) and I can knock off a 30+ mile ride in about 2 hours (UK bike, 15.5mph assist and no throttle), bump up and down kerbs and get home without punctures. It will get me up 10% + gradients and makes me smile. But I wouldn't dream of taking it on extreme trails. If it was good for that who would spend the 000's required for the full sus mid drive bikes?
Totally agree, there are things they are good for and things they are not. I just had to find that out for myself :)

I love my cheap emountain bike. I've lost 10kgs since buying it because I'm doing exercise and having fun. I'm old so I'll never do those hard trails, a fall would kill me, but I do a lot of easy off road trails and my piece of junk cheap ebike works great. I do the shopping with it too....what guy thinks shopping is fun? Me now. Two years in so far, when the motor clags, I'll get a sweet mid drive touring ebike.
I don't use my Moscow to rock hop. Light trails and such. Working great for me.

@@muhammedeminaydin5543 Yes it is. You can "mini" tune it by changing its tire size to 20" in the standard Das-kit. So you have a speed of 31 km/h for free without buying a tuning chip or something.
Ihave overtaken lots of much more expensive better bikes with it 😀
I love my moscow. For mixed mid-terrain and streets it's perfect and "cheap" and has a good range.

@@muhammedeminaydin5543 hey! Battery is quite good! It's said it's range is 120 Kilometer on paper.
But in my experience in reality with some light mountains /hights its about 90-100 Kilometer.
But after half a battery it's top speed is regulated down a little. So you have a speed of 25-28 km/h til it's empty.
A minus is the charging-speed of the battery. it takes estimated 7 hours from empty to full charge.
Keep in mind that I have the (cheaper) non-plus version with lower battery capacity.
But for my needs its totally ok and I'm very happy with it until now.
This could change having friends going to sportive rough trail actions.
But for light/mid offroad / streets and mixed terrain it has all you need . Even in the non plus version.
Edit:
Jumping over some roots and stones nor hill climbing is no problem too.
But it is simply not concepted for very high jumps or professional issues.
I've modded it a little with a parallelogram seatholder which compensates it a little to make it feel more fully and "offroadable" but - naturally - there is a difference between a 5000 buck fully and this bike 😉

@@pharaohsmagician8329 I love hard tails so NCM was a great option for me. The Aspen+ comes with a decent entry level fork with adjustable compression and lockout, and fat tires which are the way to go really with electric assist bikes IMO. The biggest difference is NCM uses hub motor rather than high end EMTB which uses mid drive. That said mid drives are mostly 250W from what I've seen. My bike is a true 500W continuous which to me sounds even better....

So what you’re saying is I can get a loaded e-mountain bike for the price of a SCAR-17S or a budget bike for the price of a Benelli M4. It’s good to put things into perspective.

You must always check and know what is the range, you ride an e-bike or an e-scooter, it depends on you.
Dead weight: again ALL e-mountain bikes are heavier also if the battery dies, you can pedal a hub motor bike like a normal bike.

Not sure the price of this bike, but I just bought a Specialized turbo vado sl for 3300 ! Its been a blast for last 3 months , fits 47mm x 650b tires. I ride trails and gravel and road. Comes with lights lifetime warranty on frame and a dealer right up the street.
We have the NCM Hamburg and the Munich they are 28 inch the Hamburg is a Mens and the munich is a step thru , They are great for what they were made for , Cheap transport Not realy for Track riding , we stick them on the back of the RV ,
I could have purchased a second hand Registered Road Trail bike ,I think i should have really but we have what we have ,, The biggest down side is the rear spokes they are shit We have snapped 8 so far 13 G spokes are not strong enough ,,, and we stay on the bike tracks (Sealed ) I will change out all the rear spokes with 12 g

I have this bike over 3 years und for me it’s a durable frame with my weight, yes it’s not perfect but the range is great and for repair it’s easy. It’s a simple enough to stay on the road or sometimes off-road

I´ve put 3700 mi on the bike. At 72 not much into fast downhill, but this is a great uphill bike &
a good general purpose bike. Heavier riders might want to swap out to beefier tires, but
the price leaves room for personalization.

A better fork would help a bit, but the biggest issue is the overall geometry (makes you sit too straight up and forward) and the fact that hub driven bikes just aren't great for more advanced trails.
BUDDY you need a pro bike to resist this EXTREME descending 5000-15000k its like comparing Toyota tercel with Ferrari.The beautifull electric bike its for normal peoples riding in soft offroad not for the ones who want to let the brains on the rocks.......EVEN you change the fork its not helping you because the hub motor will get loose in one point, because its too much vibrations

NCM Moscow Dorado Battery failure with less than 20 charge cycles
My NCM Moscow battery failed on the road, easy riding surfaces, not like some of the trails in this video, In just past 13 months of ownership (but less than 6 months of recreational, no winter usage, and less than 20 charge cycles on the battery) my battery failed… I explained to the seller, Leon Cycle, but they were firm on 12-month warranty.
The battery goes on and off when shaken…anyone know a fix for this? thx...I agree, save your money, components and service are also important...and get a 2 year min warranty on battery. or you may end up with a huge bill just after 13 months.
I've had this for 2 years now, I wonder how it survived those mountain rides on your video, it's not really designed for that bro, mine had a badge on the front suspension saying not to use it for mountain rides!

New M7 is completely different beast.
Ebikes are great for commuting and cruising around (I have a Himiway fat tire for cruising around, doing a bit of off-roading and going into town), but I don't really think they're all that great for blue trails and up; yes, even the more expensive e mountain bikes. I think that even though the expensive bikes can have great mechanical parts and powerful motors, you still can't really compensate for how much heavier these ebikes are compared to a regular mtb. I've seen some e mountain bikes that are on the lighter side but they don't feel as solid.

Can the Moscow be ridden on the beach?
I bought a Moscow Plus also last year. I like the bike, but I don't ride the same kind of trails most of the time. I did find the limitations when riding some more technical trails so I will also be upgrading but it was a great way to get started. Would still recommend it. Any suggestions on a decent mid drive that will not break the bank?
There is no such thing as full suspension good bike that won't break the bank. A good pair of Fox Front forks are $1000 alone. I'm not talking about the bike, just the front fork. I have not found a good full suspension bike for less than $4K.
For someone looking to use the bike for courier jobs, would you recommend this bike based on battery life/comfort?
@@thondadon2286 - Yes, it's fine for that type of work. Battery life will get you over 30 miles easily unless you don't want to peddle at all. Yes, it pretty comfortable, but if you going long distance, I would change the seat to something more wide and more padded. Overall, it's a great bike, but is not designed for heavy jumps. It's good for regular city riding.

eBay just get the model number and what type you want I bought sinter and organic but even replacing the discs if your hard on the brakes is cheap.
I would imagine there were only 2 problems with getting much more advanced, expensive mountain bike like the LEVO your friend has: 1. Finding the right bike. 2. Talking the wife into it. Good luck.

There are. $600 ebikes with knobby tires. I think you're looking at top of the range bikes. Even without motors they cost thousands, because they are 10X better.

I've heard good things about Haibikes, but haven't personally rode one. If you have a little higher budget the YT Decoy Base 29 would be a great option. A lot of the 2021's aren't out yet, but once those come out there will be others to choose from as well.
Giant makes good budget minded full sus bikes
Giant Stance 2. Trail bike full suspension without breaking the bank. No bell no whistle, short suspension travel, but solid for trail riding.

YT Decoy starts from $4000 I think. They are amazing. You can also get a base model Giant. But prepare for 5k at least for a real nice one that is mid drive and PROPER bike. The rest will be point trash. Up to you. Good luck

You could, but It's more about the frame geometry and rear hub motor that are the main limiting factors on keeping it from being capable on harder trails.

@@tannerjack9520 don't get me wrong, the Moscow was still a fun bike and made biking enjoyable for me again. It's just not really cut out for the trails my group of friends are doing. I've seen that sondors, looks interesting but unfortunately wouldn't be allowed on trails in CO.
