Think about how beautiful it is that Oda introduced both Shanks and Mihawk in the first parts of One Piece, and they both would turn out to 2 of the strongest people in One Piece at that point.
If I had to rank them I would probably put Shanks at the top, if not the top then a close second, I would put White Beard as second, if not second then first, and Mihawk I would put slightly below Shanks in terms of power, so if I put Shanks at top I would put Mihawk just below Shanks and probably at White Beard, if I put White Beard at the top then Mihawk would come in 3rd just under Shanks.

@@welshlout3400 Maybe, I have no idea how truely strong Shanks is, what I do know is he isn't treated the same as the other pirates as he isn't a conqueror and as such the navy doesn't have to worry about him sailing around and wrecking shit up, so his bounty reflects this, I also know he had an encounter with Kiado before arriving at Marineford, and when he arrived he was perfectly fine, so either they came to an agreement, had a battle that shanks won, or Kiado just didn't want to fight him. It has also been confirmed that if shanks as he is now were to challenge Mihawk, Shanks would win though it would be difficult, at least I would put him at White Beard level of power, even more so when he can enter the room or the Gorosei, in the holy land, so either he had the ability to sneak past the defenses, managed to fight his way in, or they let him in.

My brother actually had the nerve to suggest that Mihawk only has the title of world's strongest swordsman because people he claims are stronger than Mihawk, such as Shanks and the admirals, don't want the title due to their already high standing...

Never been stated that being yonko makes you the strongest pirate. We know shanks has no fruit, so how else do people think he fights? Martial arts? Before watching the video I will give my piece of opinion on this "how strong is Mihawk" matter.
First off, Oda once officially stated that Mihawk has never lost a single battle in his entire life, including his childhood in which he already learned swordfighting. This means that all of those duels with Shanks were either draws or Mihawk won, Shanks did not win a single time. That much we can say. Also, people claim Kaido to be the strongest, honestly, Kaido is probably the most durable and of course one of the strongest in attack power, he is a Yonko and "the strongest creature" after all. But in his introduction we were told that Kaido has lost a lot of battles in his life before, it's just that noone was able to actually kill him. What I am trying to say is, Oda went out of his way to confirm Kaido lost battles and Mihawk NEVER lost a battle. For me that is classic Oda forshadowing, hinting that Mihawk is stronger than Kaido when it comes to a pure 1 vs 1. I don't know if Mihawk can kill Kaido, but I certainly believe he can beat him up.
Also you have to recognize that Mihawk is THE ONLY guy known to sail ALONE through the world and easily live. Oh and another thing. Think people, why did the 7 warlords come into existance? Why were they chosen? Boa Hancock said "because we are strong". But that is not completely right. It's because they are powerful. There is a big difference. Boa Hancock, Doflamingo, Crocodile, Buggy, they all have a lot of people under them and hold political power, or economic power in Buggys case. Blackbeard became a warlord as a reward and Wheevil became a warlord so that the government can say they have even Whitebeards son as their dog.
Mihawk has been a warlord for years and years now, it was said very early in the series that he never attends meetings, that he ignores the governments orders outright, he lives alone on an island and just does what he wants to do, helping no one but himself, being of no real use to the government outside of him occasionally killing pirates out of boredom.
So why the hell did thy keep him? Because of his strenght. Now that the kings of the world have voted, the government is forced to take Mihawk down. But before that, they recognized that he is so strong, that taking him down would never be worth the casualties they'd have to take. Think about it, Mihawk really offers nothing to the government, he doesn't really try to be of use to them. Still they let him have his safe position because that was 1000 times better than having this man as their enemy.
So, I will get A LOT of hating comments for this most likely, but at this point in the series, I judge Mihawk to be the very strongest character when it comes to pure 1 vs 1 fighting.

You are free to think that but as I said, Oda confirmed that Mihawk never lost, also Mihawk is the better swordfighter since he has a black blade and Shanks does not. And remember Cavendish from Dressrosa? When he turns into Hakuba he suddenly has orange and yellow circled eyes like Mihawk as we can see in the scene where Robin holds him and he is half Cavendish and half Hakuba. My point is, the "hawkeyes" are something you can get, like a skill or a level of mastery, like the black blade. Mihawk has both, Shanks has none of them. So Mihawk at least is a MUCH better swordsfighter. And we know he NEVER lost even once. So best case for Shanks, it was all draws. But Shanks definitely never won, Mihawk may have won 1 time, more times, all the time. We don't know of course, but we know, he never lost in his life.

You're missing one piece of CRUCIAL information, THE OPPONENTS THE MIHAWK AND KAIDO WERE UP AGAINST, IT is confirmed that KAIDO was on the rocks pirates which was the strongest pirate crew in the world at the time, but they went up against garp and Roger and lost, so KAIDO lost against both of them, that is unfair to say MIHAWK never last when there is a good chance the average strength of the fighters MIHAWK was facing were weaker, just my opinion on the matter

I thoroughly enjoyed your video and find it reassuring that someone finally, genuinely understands Mihawk's personality and motives alike. It's honestly infuriating to see him dismissed and downplayed in the community in favour of cancerous, futile powerscaling attempts (which imho remove all the fun of reading One Piece). Hello guys, I know nobody watch this video now but I would like to tell you how strong I think Mihawk is according to what we know about swordsmen in One Piece. I'm putting this comment here just to have a chance to be read.
- The definition of a swordsman is "someone who fights with a sword", so "the world strongest swordsman" is the man who is more likely to win than anyone in One Piece in a sword fight.
- What is a sword fight ? Well, if you watch Skallagrim videos, you know that in the real world you can use many things in addition to your sword in a duel and still be considered a swordsman : you can use your bare hand (the one that doesn't carry the sword) to grab your opponent's weapon (his weapon and not only his sword, because you learn how to counter any fighting style in swordsmanship) , your feet to kick him, a shield to block his attacks etc... In One Piece, this definition should be applied as well : Zoro himself is very strong without his swords and uses kicks when he's about to be beaten ; Kaku and Fujitora are considered swordsmen both in databooks and the actual manga despite all the skills they have, so you could also consider Big Mom, Shanks and even Roger as swordsmen (also, Roger has fought Rocks with his sword, so you can tell that Roger uses it when he gets serious ; it's not decorative).
-What about haki ? If you use haoushouku haki in addition to your sword(s), are you still considered a swordsman ? Well, as I said before, you can use lots of things in a sword fight that are not swords : if you carry the sword during the fight, then you're a swordsman : when you see Big Mom holding Zeus in one hand, her sword in the other hand, and fighting on top of Prometheus's back in chapter 1008, she's still a swordswoman ; when you see Zoro using conqueror's haki against Monet and Kaido while slicing them, he's still a swordsman ; therefore, when you see Roger and Shanks clashing with Whitebeard (and using their sword in every fight they're in), using conqueror's haki or not, you have to consider them swordsmen.
-Here's my point : Shanks, Big Mom and Rayleigh are all living swordsmen (even Big Mom because she uses her sword each time she gets serious : it's not because she prefers to not use it against fodders like Luffy before Wano that she's not a swordswoman anymore ; for instance, take a look at Zoro : he has defeated enemies without his swords voluntarily, just like in Whiskey Peak, when he defeated Miss Monday). Because those three characters are swordsmen, Mihawk, "the strongest swordsman in the world", is stronger than each one of them. There might be a small mistranslation here, senrigan doesn't necessarily translate into clairvoyant. The direct translation of senrigan is thousand miles eyes, which is a pretty prominent skill in Chinese mysticism, which is typically an ability that allows the user to see anything within a thousand mile radius, although the range vary from story to story, there is no depiction that I'm familiar with where the senrigan comes with clairvoyance.
This started as a powerscaling video but then turned into a whole ass character study lol. Props for the amount of thought that went into this. But you don't need all those arguments you can just say Mihawk is who Zoro aspires to be. There's absolutely no way End of series Zoro, that surpasses Mihawk, won't be Yonko level (because Luffy will far surpass Yonko) and there's also no way he just pulls up and mid-diffs Mihawk, it'll be a extreme-diff between two characters that will both be among the strongest characters in the verse. Luffy said in Chapter 1 that his crew will surpass Shanks' and Zoro is his right-hand man, that makes Mihawk way better than any First Commander already.
Also keep in mind the man is called the World's strongest Swordsman and three of the four og Yonko use Sword weapons and are all close in strength, doesn't take a genius to figure out the World's strongest Swordsman is on their level😂 Its almost equivalent to Oda saying "Here's the World's strongest Devil Fruit user" also 3/4 Yonko have Devil Fruits... people gotta stop sleeping on Mihawk.

Barely makes sense. Being the strongest swordsman doesn't mean shanks can't still overpower the hell out of him. He has conqueror's haki. By mere definition that makes him stronger than mihawk.
Not to mention if the stats of yonko align in certain regards, shanks can still, theoretically, have the muscle strength to send mihawk flying with a melee attack just like any other yonko. (Big Ma, Kaido, LUFFY)
Not to mention that Mihawk and Shanks had their duels BEFORE Shanks got to the point of competing with the likes of Whitebeard. ie. Shanks was not a yonko or yonko level when he sparred with Mihawk. I rest my case.

One thing I appreciate about your channel is how we seem to internalize the context of OP incredibly similarly. This video pretty much maps out how I've thought about Mihaw....Godhawk for a while. Out of the crew Luffy, Zoro, and Nami get preferential treatment in comparison to the others (for the most part) and in my mind it makes sense that whoever/whatever Luffy's goals/heroes/mentors/rivals/etc. are, that Zoro has people relatively similar in comparison. So Mihawk being Yonko level, Mihawk being a legend, Mihawk being one of the (in my opinion) 7 to 8 strongest in the verse isn't crazy. It's curious why a large portion of the community will let biases obstruct what I think Oda is clearly laying out for us to see. I hope more Mihawk videos come up in the future (when appropriate).

@@FireAngelChris Thank you my friend. You make a great point about his early introduction as well. It was a great tactic used by Oda to show the reader how large/expansive the OP world was early on. I reread those chapters a lot because Mihawk's intro is one of my two favorite in the series (slightly behind Rayleigh's).

The day we get a chance to see these top tiers display their abilities beyond a clash used for hype, is the day the conversation throughout the community changes. But we'll have to wait another few years for all of that to happen.

Ok people forget that when Shanks lost his arm, he lost interest in fighting him, now you don't just say that to a Yonko, either Mihawk has to be stupidly arrogant or extremely strong to undermine a Yonko.
