You are so welcome! I'm so glad it helped. I have a lot of videos on stencilling. There's aa couple from June 2020 with Do's and don'ts of stencilling with many helpful tips. I hear it very often that people are starting to pick up this hobby at around your age and its mainly because creativity helps our well being and that's the main focus of my channel. I have videos every week with project and helpful tips to help you be inspired. If you press the bell button beside the subscribe you will be notified every time I have a new video.
some videos are timeless. this is one of them. it doesn't matter the year, all the tips and tricks are still current. thank you for making the video. its very helpful! also, it has a lot of ideas i have never considered before!
Thank you so much for sharing these techniques. I just bought a lot of stencils, sprays, stains, inks and paints. This class will help me create lovely backgrounds.
Just about to do my first stencil on a wooden coffee table I have sanded down. Your video opened my mind (and hopefully my skills) to the many possibilities of adding my own touch instead of just a plain stencil. Wish me luck!
Thank you Keren mmmwha. I've been restoring a 200 year old trunk and I bought a stencil for the difficult pattern I couldn't free hand. First I used gold paint and and an ultra fine tip paint brush and painted each part carefully. To my shock and horror, it didn't turn out great. I painted the front of the trunk again and then dabbed the stencil with paint instead. It's not as vibrant with gold paint but it worked amazingly. If I didn't see your video I would have just given up. You are the best 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰😙😙😙😙😙
You have become my favorite most person since I seen your work in the morning . Its bn 12 hours n i have been watching your videos only n im not tiring to see such 😍 beautiful 🥰 work .
Wow, thank you Samia, It's an honor for me that you've been watching for that long.I do have a lot of videos and they are all very valuable. I'm so glad they helped you. sending love and blessings.
I really enjoy this video, I have come back to watch it a few times. I enjoy listening to you talk during your videos also. Another technique that you can do with a stencil is to put a small amount of Vaseline on a plastic lid or a non stick mat and use a sponge to pick it up and apply through a stencil for a resist technique to use with sprays or watercolour paint. Colouring through the stencil with either a plain taper candle or a wax crayon in the same colour as the paper also creates a resist to use with watercolours or sprays.
thanks so much kathy!! yes the vaseline resist technique would be awesome in a stencil. I've done that with sprays, paints and watercolors before. and with crayons too. tfs!! xo
if you're cleaning right away you can wash them with water or water and soap or baby wipes. If you forget to clean them like I often do then I do have a video on my channel on how to clean stencils (the gunky ones)
If I want to ANYTHING in the art world.....you are my first go to....🤗.....you are the only utuber I bother to watch through my television....so I don't miss a trick....thank you Keren.....I watched a alcohol ink demo the other day....did you use yupo paper.....I wanted to do a piece of art on the larger size and my yupo paper is quite small in size....thank you always Keren....Jane...North Wales UK.....x
thank you so much Jane. It means a lot to me. I did answer you in both those comments you left me but maybe the messages are going into your junk folder. Yes it is yupo and they sell it in bigger blocks of paper. You can also use Grafix plastic paper and it comes in 12x12
Ty! Excellent ideas and a great video. Love that your music is in the background and so soothing. Your narration is clear, which is a bonus as I'm old and don't hear very well. Many blessings. 💛🧡💚
You're giving me an idea with the inks, I've been stressing over stenciling small white circles onto another color and worrying about the bleed. I bet the ink would work great! Just have to find some white ink and try it out. Thanks for your video!
This is fun to watch and you make it look easy. I’ve been looking for one for a while now, working with stencils and this was so helpful! I’m definitely going to try one of these techniques. Thank you.
so glad to hear!! Stencilling is so much fun!! I actually have a few other stencil videos on a playlist on my channel. There's even more tips especially some Do's and Don'ts with stencils
This is great video. So many cool techniques. Drawing inside stencil is a great idea. A really love the elephant with texture paste circles!!! SO cool!!! You are an excellent teacher!!! Thx for video. Austin,TX USA
This is awesome - great tutorial, very easy to understand, your voice sounds very clear, little background noise interference, excellent video x. Got some great idea for my own projects - thank you!
So many fun techniques to try. I liked them all, but think I'll start with the gelatos and baby wipes. I really like your compilations all in one place. Thanks!
Karen, this was great! You are such a good teacher. You have taken my fear away from doing stencils. Can't wait to get started. I really like the work surface you were working on. Where can I buy a mat like that? Thank you again for sharing. God bless.
Dolphin 2121 thank you so much. Links to all the products are always below the video in my description area. It’s a great mat. I always list all the products and where to buy them. Thank you so much I can’t wait to see what you create
that's amazing!! so happy to hear. if you try any please tag me on social media and its would be great if you shared with your friends on social so they can benefit too!!
Hi Keren! I really enjoyed watching your video on doing different stencil techniques! I only have just started working with stencils, and I've been having a little difficulty getting a sharp stencil image when I pick up the stencil, but I am practicing so I can get better at it! Thanks for sharing this wonderful video!! Hugs xo
that's amazing Linda!! you will get the sharpest image either with ink or with some thick medium like paste. as you can see sprays and liquid things don't give such a sharp image but sometimes you don't want a sharp image you want it distressed, so it depends what you're using it for. can't wait to see what you create!!
Linda, use removable spray glue and glue it to the paper (test if you can remove it on a small part first) Nothing will run under it, then just pull the stencel of carefuly after applying the paint. Good luck and have fun.
Thanks for the video! All the stencils look very beautiful. I am just getting into mixed media art and I still know nothing. I am wondering what wipes you are using in the video? Is it wet or dry? Thanks!
Thank you for making this video & sharing. I have been thinking about using stencils for somemtime but wasnt sure how tomget stared, now I can get started
Don't be afraid. You can use Stencils in a controlled manner at first with inks and then move to the messy business. If you work in an art journal then you can experiment and find out which techniques you like and which you don't. the worst that can happen is that you have to turn the page in the journal. you don't loose from that but you gain knowledge. you might like this video as it explains art journaling with stencils step by step: ua-cam.com/video/q9vZ3KymvCs/v-deo.html
This was so awesome and helpful! Excellent tutorial and thank you for all the links! I also mix colored acrylic paint into the paste to make the embossing colorful!
there shouldn't be a difference between the sides. you can use either side unless its writing and you don't want it upside down. what brand did you get I'm curious. I've never experienced roughness in a stencil unless i forgot to clean it well lol
I think I may have bought cheap ones. you can see where they are punched out leaving the kinda embossed one side and deposed the other. However, on checking my branded stencils they are, as you say, the same both sides. You get what you pay for eh? Thank you so much for helping me look properly at all my stencils. Will never buy unbranded again!
Thanks Karen, I am a new crafter at 62. I tried stenciling and what a mess, lol. Thank you for the tips, It helped me alot. This is so much fun!

Linda, use removable spray glue and glue it to the paper (test if you can remove it on a small part first) Nothing will run under it, then just pull the stencel of carefuly after applying the paint. Good luck and have fun.

Excellent video, lots of helpful info! Have you ever stenciled linoleum counter tops?
thank you, no I have not stenciled linoleum counter tops
What fun! Thank you! Can any of these techniques and/or products be used on fabric - particularly silk?
well I do these on canvas and I'm sure some can be applied to fabric, but I'm not familiar with silk. you would have to experiment and see.

Loved your video - just starting out with them. Is there a right way up? One side seems rougher than the other.
there shouldn't be a difference between the sides. you can use either side unless its writing and you don't want it upside down. what brand did you get I'm curious. I've never experienced roughness in a stencil unless i forgot to clean it well lol
