Who wants us to get a full exhaust for the C5?? (longtube headers, 🐈 deletes, and ❌-pipe) 20k like and we will do it! Speaking of straight pipes, the S600 is getting the new exhaust installed today, live next video🙌
SWEET, that's my exhaust clip at 1:25. Bullets are the way to go with headers and xpipe. Got the headers and xpipe from Texas Speed, so entire exhaust system was less than $2k.
I have a 1997 C5 Corvette that was having the same “Reduced Engine Power” problem!!! Super easy fix for me. Cleaned the mass air flow sensor and throttle body but would still get the problem intermittently. Until one day it would automatically go into REP mode right when turned over. Replaced the Throttle Position Sensor and the problem IMMEDIATELY disappeared
Can excess the codes on the right display next to the gauges. Can clear and check any codes. Hold options button and push fuel button 4 times. Then push any button to go into manual mode. Gauges button let's u see codes and option button goes thru coded. Push reset to clear and e/m button to get out. Easy
You don't need a code reader for the C5. You can pull them through the DIC To pull the codes, turn the ignition key to the on position but DO NOT start the car. Make sure that your doors and trunk are closed so that the DIC (digital information center) doesn't start nagging you about a bunch of stuff. Next, hit the reset button to clear any nag messages that may be on the DIC.Then, while holding the Options button down, press the fuel button 4 times within a 10 second period.3. At that point, the DIC will automatically start displaying all of the various modules and any codes that may be present in each module. You can stop this automatic mode and send the DIC into manual mode by pressing any button except the E/M button (that button causes the DIC to exit the diagnostic mode). You can then scroll through the codes using the Gauges button to go forward, and the Fuel button to go backwards. Here's an example of a code notification problem:
OK, I’ll say it again....this car SERIOUSLY needs a new home here in Phoenix!!!!! Too bad you guys don’t teach what you know.....or would you teach someone??? HMMMMM........Big fan....would love to meet you guys someday......
For my 1998 C5 coupe, when the check engine light appears along with the reduced power message. It's been the throttle switch. Has happened twice in the 19 years i've owned it. Good luck guys. Love the videos.
On my C6 there was a sensor on the gas pedal that had built up dirt and grime in it from where it’s located and it was causing the car to go into limp mood and would throw a check engine code. If it’s the same system all you do is unplug the connector clean it out and spray some electrical contact spray in the connector and plug it back in. May not be your issue but it’s worth a shot and it’s good maintenance to do so. Good luck!
Like you, I’d always thought that C5 had a charm of its own so I looked for one s and bought a 1997 C5 from a senior citizen in 2017 who had never driven the car even in rain- practically brand new. Being an old car, I wanted to bring it up to new generation spec so I installed a Pioneer headunit with Bluetooth and Apple Play and it looked absolutely awesome!! I also flushed the tail lights to the body line (Amazon has a kit). The car then just sat in my garage as soon after I had bought my new Maserati and got busy enjoying that. I put the C5 up for sale and the first person who came to look at it bought it at the very moment. Overall I loved the look of the C5 but it lacked the performance and quality as compared to a brand new Maserati. Enjoy the build but I see you guys building it and selling it.
If your headlights are giving you grief, the plastic gear wheel inside the headlight motor housing has broken teeth. The reason it works sometimes and not others depends on the position of the gear at that time, and whether or not there are teeth for the metal worm gear to grab. Its a cheap and easy (sort of) fix. You can get rebuild kits for them. Ive had to do both of mine.
Throttle position sensor might be causing the limp mode. If not get a new battery. Corvettes are very sensitive to voltage changes and hate weak batteries
C5's can get a bit hinkey when the battery is low. I'd put a new battery in it. Go with an AGM so you don;t have to worry about it dripping into the computer underneath it.
Hey guys, the new seats look wicked. On my C5, one time after (pressure) washing the car a bit too rigorously I started getting tons of messages(after a day or two). It would still run/drive at first, but as it got worse the car totally died. Ended up being a damaged(water) CPU, located by the passenger foot well. The CPU is discontinued so I had to buy it off of EBay($1000). I hope that’s not why yours is all lit up.
Shampooing carpets only looks good initially, once it’s dried and the fancy lines go away they go back to looking dirty.. best thing I’ve found it taking it out and pressure washing it.. much more effective..
That corvette is awesome. I’ve always loved corvettes in general, but I have a newfound love for the c5. Can’t wait for the engine bay cleaning video and the black floor mats!
Not sure if It was a computer problem, or an actual cooling problem. But when you lost power and it reduced, your temp gauge was pegged. This will often cause your car to go into reduced power until the temp drops. 2:53
At 2:56 in the video gauges are 0 psi for oil and it's running, also temp gauge is pegged at 260. Better fix it quick or you will need a Texas speed motor as well.
Check gauges means one or more gauges are not working. The abs lights likely means the wheel speed sensor stopped working. You can scan the codes in the car (lookup a UA-cam video because I can’t recall off the top of my head)
Check the grounds. If they are corroded or dirty it will cause electrical issues. C-5 Corvette’s can pull their own codes. Check the manual or UA-cam for videos on pulling codes on the C-5 Corvette
Dont let this distract you from the fact that i will be running 3 honda civics with spoon engines and i whent into harrys and ordered t66 turbos with nos and a full motec system exhaust
With a corvette u can scan it by using the information bottons on the left of the stearing wheel...the is a certain order to push them but this will bring up the codes probably just as good as any code readers
Check wire harness had a loose connection under hood and did the same thing. Shut engine off wiggle wires and restart and see if it fixes it. Mine was on throttle body connector but is a common problem with the drive by wire system. service engine light will shut off by itself within 24hrs or after a few times driving after I wiggled wires.
Yea i like the deal you got you can check and clear codes on the driver information center i think if hold options and press something four times it opens the menu and you can reset all codes
It might not be your problem but at least in my 2001 c5 corvette I always have trouble with the ignition switch getting burnt up on the inside. So I just take it apart and clean it and all the electronics go back to normal. (but literally when it gets burnt my traction control would stop working which would make my AC stop working. I have no clue why they’re linked). I don’t have the magna ride suspension but I think it might affect that too. It’s an easy replacement or cleaning up to you. I personally would try it no matter what because the car is old and it’s a common issue so it might happen down the line. Also forgot to mention on any T56 transmission you should do the anti-venom mod especially if you’re going to put a short throw in it. I did it in my C5 and it was a night and day difference.
The check engine light can be from the gas cap or the oil level is lower than it has to be. The gas cap just try giving it a little more turns(I hope it's from it)
Probably a wheel speed sensor or the abs control module needs to be replaced. A good cheap fix is to open up the module and resolder the motherboard. I did it to mine and saved thousands. Spent like $20 to fix it
Not that it matters now since you already got some nice Corbeaus, but you can gain a lot of real estate for wider seats by swapping in the c6 seat belt reels.
You should put a short throw shifter on your transmission cause the shift on 2:05 you did, it looked way too long and rough so change it and put a short throw shifter. It will be a night and day difference and it will be better with the short throw shifter.
You don’t need a code reader the vette comes with its own , use the dic buttons on the cluster on the right side , hold down the option button and push fuel button 4 times all the codes are available and can be scrolled thru on the dash . There are you tube vids showing how
One thing to look up - Ignition switch - they one issue is tied to most of the warning lights and alerts on the dash. Theres nothing the forum has not addressed on these things. This is most deff a diy
Try to unplug the battery and let it overnight. So all the ECUs are flat. Maybe the error will be erased after this. If not, check with a reader if you can erase the error.
I love Corvettes there so nice and I wish I could get me a hand of one of those but honestly corvettes are the nicest car and you guys really did a great job with cleaning it
Never had a Corvette but had a mid 2000s Silverado and a mid mid 2000s Tahoe and when the traction control sensor pops up and loses power, they were both throttle positioning sensor.
Definitely get a new battery, but I'd also check the PCM for corrosion. I just replaced one on a C5 that was doing the exact same thing. It was causing all sorts of electrical issues because that module communicates with so many others. It's mounted in the rear of the RF wheel well under the battery. Just remove the access panel and you'll be able to get to it pretty easily. It's a really common issue for C5's and C6's. Kinda poor mounting point. Oh and I definitely like the idea of this being a giveaway car😜
I had the same issue with my Trans Am. Ended up being the wiring harness. The car sat for 8 months in a driveway before I bought it and rats nested in the intake box and chewed the entire harness. Basically the car was shorting out everywhere lol.
sounds like it could be your BCM. i know when your modules arent communicating properly, it can trip a lot of those lights as a precaution and also because theyre not getting the correct inputs from each other
Use the onboard diagnostics. Check utube for instructions. It will tell you all the codes. You can also tell if it’s a current issue or history by the C or H after the code
Check all your grounds around the car, and the ecbm computer is probably toast, which is going to be an issue if it's pre-2002 as those modules aren't available any more
I don't know why you guys wouldn't have done a safety once-over on the car to ensure that your wheels/brakes/important crap isn't about to fall off or on its last leg. Especially an auction car. You know someone just found out something broke and is going to be expensive to fix and just donated the car.
Accelerator control module sensor the car accelerator hangs up a tiny bit and it goes into reduced engine power it can be fixed by replacing the accelerator control module

Great idea!
You should Fully refurbish a car
that would be awesome. r u thinking about new coilovers?
It would be better to buy the exhaust for the s-class(the corvette sounds awesome already tbh)
I wouldn't change a thing.... with that many miles. FACTORY IS BETTER. Great Car!!!
SWEET, that's my exhaust clip at 1:25. Bullets are the way to go with headers and xpipe. Got the headers and xpipe from Texas Speed, so entire exhaust system was less than $2k.
YellowVette04 Car sounds awesome! I made sure to link your video, so that should definitely drive some views your way🙌
@@JRGarage appreciate it. Put "YellowVette04 Exhaust Clip" in the description 🤣🤣
JR Garage this is @yellowvette04 ‘s exhaust clip. Where’s the cred, jr garage?
Put black carpets in, the beige ones are crud
They are grey but faded.
Yes they fr should
Karl T if you watched the video, they are I thought
Yeah they said they were getting black ones
They said they are getting black floor mats. I would still replace that carpet.
I have a 1997 C5 Corvette that was having the same “Reduced Engine Power” problem!!! Super easy fix for me. Faulty alternator. Is usually behind. Reduced engine power had that same problem
It would be SUPER easy and cheap to dye the carpets black. Like $20

C5's were way ahead of there time!
Throttle Body or Throttle Position Sensor. SO many GM vehicles go into Engine Reduced Mode to "save itself" when it get's mixed signals.

The ecm system.might need changing the abs is brake the hubs on the breaks Go out and that's when the abs comes on
arh headers and full borla catback makes thew best sound for a c5

I once had a bmw do the exact same thing this did apart from no revs. It was a bad battery!

ABS and traction control lights usually mean the EBCM on there which is not so good
The more I see this, the more I fall in love. :) Cant wait to see how well you clean the engine bay and the full exhaust.

Check the Ignition switch. about an hour to replace and you can pick one up at any decent auto parts store. A good redtop battery also.
I think an AGM battery should be the very next thing on your list. Might even solve some of your electrical issues. Love the seats
Not sure if It was a computer problem, or an actual cooling problem. But when you lost power and it reduced, your temp gauge was pegged. This will often cause your car to go into reduced power until the temp drops. 2:53
Man I’ve wanted one of these for years. I’m just glad it didn’t end up smashed! Way to ring it back!
I love so much what y’all have done with this car
If you clean the 3 grounds in the engine bay that will fix a lot of those codes.

were these seats actually cheaper than replacing the stock seats or getting them re-foamed & re-wrapped?
My friend had the same reduced engine power problem and we just swapped out the TPS and it fixed it
Great video as usual. Also, thanks for the heads up on the lower cushion on the seats!
Corbeau evelution x fit better. Just did A4 in my c5 on factory seat tracks. Will install tomorrow to see if it fits good

You can check codes on thr c5 with the key on by holding fuel and pressing options 4 times or vice versa
I have a gm and have had the reduced power code and it was a pedal position sensor.
when you complain about reduced engine power but youre out of gas XD
Use the onboard diagnostics. Check utube for instructions. It will tell you all the codes. You can also tell if it’s a current issue or history by the C or H after the code
