Thank you so much for all your videos! I am turning into a fan! I am following your 'find the beat' weeks, which are great and helps me a lot. With this video I finally understood my confusion and why I can enjoy dancing onto salsa music intuitively by myself and get lost when I have to follow someone on one single rhythm! Working on it! What I really appreciate in your videos is that you clarify everything, Thank you!
So glad they're helping clear up some confusion Carole, that's great! really appreciate the kind words. Thanks for watching! -Robin
Awesome upload. It lines up with how I understand dance without a formal dance education. All of these rhythms can be used in any dance. Thanks.
You bet! glad you dig it Francis. - Robin

Hi Robin, thank you so much for your tutorials. You explained it very well! I just subscribed to your channel! I’m a salsa beginner, but since Corona I couldn’t dance and practice a lot. Robin, I don’t understand around 7:08 the reversal and no one can explain it to me well.
During shines in class we start 1,2,3 forward like a follow, but when partner dancing 1,2,3 is going back like a lead.
This changes the feel a bit, and when we break apart to do shines...do I change to a foward 1,2,3 then switch to backward when we connect again?
Quiles, first i need to know are you a lead or a follow and dancing on 1 or on 2?
The quick answer is when doing shines in a class leads and follows just the same counts to keep things simple and standard. When you dance with a partner the leads use their counts and the follows use theirs. When you split off to do shines you can dance on WHATEVER counts you want - there are NO rules at all. but when you go to collect your partner you have to switch back to the standard counts so you're able to communicate - make sense?
When I talk about switching counts because of changes in the music this is what I'm referring to and how to do it: ua-cam.com/video/tVriraVW0pQ/v-deo.html - hope this helps. - Robin
Dance Dojo Sorry, a lead On2. Thanks for telling me about the shines count because I wasn’t sure if it mattered.
Can you give a song example that changes counts in the music ?
You never change to forward 123 Always keep the men's count. During partner work for men, 123 is used to spin a female or do any turn pattern you want. If you break this and do a turn pattern with a female on 567, this change in count might confuse her because her count is moving forward is always 123.
Muito boa explicaçao! obrigado Robin ;) assistindo pela decima vez!
Muito obrigado Alvanete! :) -Robin
Great tutorial!
So basically always have your left foot hitting on 1 and your right foot hitting on 5 correct?
if you're a leader dancing on1 timing, yes!
Thank your boy!!!
Thanks for watching! -Robin

Thanks! Glad you liked it :) -robin
fix the left plant please, no need for it to sag to one side like that.
also nice vid, thanks!
The left plant is severely struggling. Attempts have been made but its roots are weak. You'll have to be stronger than it can be and excuse its poor performance. Thanks for watching! -Robin
Very nice video indeed
How does anyone learn to dance like this with so many words. Most ethnic people just turn on the music and someone starts dancing until everybody catches up. LMAO nonetheless, I appreciate the thoroughness of these lessons and how much everyone loves good music.
It all depends what your goal is!
