... actually, the 'montuno section' gets its name from the cuban genre 'son montuno', and the same for the mambo section, from cuban genre 'mambo'. also, the mambo section typically is executed by the brass section

A very nice explanation, but what about this: the late Caballero Adalberto Álvarez said more than once that salsa as a musical genre actually doesn't exist, that it's a mere commercial denomination of what is basically a version of son. He himself used in his late years simply a term "música bailable" for the music he played. Any comment or opinion on this?
Very clear and comprehensive explanation! It helps me a lot as a dancer. Could you please explain as well the rhythmical structures that is played in salsa for instance as you mentioned : oriza, guajeo, afro etc.?

Amneris has been dancing forever she partnered Juan Matos for a long time . For her the most important thing is the groove the feeling of the music . I think she's often been overlooked for classes on her own, and no idea why, because she's also a wonderful solo teacher with bundles of energy and enthusiasm . Look her up .

Thank you! This is an excellent video and a great reference! However, I have a question for you regarding the bridge. What is the difference between the "Oriza" rhythm and the Puerto Rican "Plena" rhythm? The instrument used may be different, but the rhythmic pattern itself sounds practically the same to me.
