My sister and I inherited my father's huge coin collection years ago after he passed away. He started collecting coins in 1926 and had purchased numerous coins from Stack's of Nyc. A few years later my mother started having financial problems and Stack's sent a representative to our home in Milwaukee to look over and appraise his collection which we sold to them. My mother is now 100 years old and if not for my dad's coin collection she would not of been able to afford to live a comfortable life since he passed away. Enjoy your videos.

Very helpful to see how a coin dealer would evaluate what you have and how much you could expect to get for various items in comparison with what they retail for. In percentage terms, it looked like the 1/10 oz. gold coins and 1 oz silver coins retain the most resale value with him offering over 90%. I was a little surprised he would only pay 80% on the Morgan/Peace dollars by comparison. Of course, some dealers will only offer you melt value on common silver dollars, so his prices were reasonable. Sounds like we should focus our stacking on the most popular bullion coins.
depending how many of a certain coin Guy has ex low inventory may pay more if he has a large quantity of the same date pay a little less as they are not selling and remain in inventory sometime for years.
Man, Mr. Guy is very reasonable to buy & sell with current spot price....too bad I’m in Texas. I loved his point on lower mintage as reason for buying the UNC commemoratives instead of proofs.

I have never gone and talk to a coin dealer As Nice And as full of information as this gentleman. Every single coin dealer I have spoken to over the last five years have all been assholes. So I have done most of my research on my own buying books and doing research on the internet. So if you are just starting out with either a new coin collection or one that has been handed down to you be very careful where you go and who'd you talk to you about your currency collection.
I love using the spending coins for their actual use. During the summer I use them as tips at some of the food trucks around town and I get a little extra toppings.

Want to add a slight variant to the ping test. You need to be gentle though, using a metal tuning fork hit gently the rim of a silver and clad coin. You will hear at first a higher tone and then lower tone. If it has silver the lower tone will last much longer than for one with copper/nickel or other precious metal combo. Be aware after you gently strike the edge of the coin put the tuning fork close to your ear to hear how quickly the higher tone disappears and the lower tine sustains but far shorter than a coin with silver (the higher pitch will also sustain a little longer but listen for the lower tone).

While I order a fair amount from monument metals, I also regularly go to my LCS and keep good relationships with them. They know me by name etc. Occasionally I will buy from them even if it is slightly more than I can get online. With that, they also cut me deals occasionally. Ive also spoke with them about their buy back conditions...what they prefer...what prices they offer for generic, maples, eagles, premium etc. What ai have learned is that there is a lot of benefit in stacking silver eagles and maples.
I find his means of upraising silver constitutional dollar coins easier to follow. Thats an easy way to understand the methods used. Definitely going to share this video on my compiled links for hobbyists I know in the Philippines that are starting out. Thanks again for going an doing this and give my thanks to CoinGuy for the time and honesty in dealing with this type of stuff.
A coin shop owner has to cover overhead so I make this comment starting with that. He has spent a lifetime learning what he knows to feed his family. His livelihood depends on estate coins left by collectors to be sold by heir's who are not collectors. If you inherit a large coin collection, unless you are going to spend the decades like this man has to become an expert or sell them one at a time on ebay this is how you sell your collection
Guy has many of his customers tell him Coin Guy card left with their collection if family needs to sell. A few have come in over the years and always sad when a regular dies.
Thank you so much spegtacular for this video. I learned a lot. Some generalizations. Generally gold and silver does not fetch a lot unless you hold it for a long time and buy certain key dates like that 1921 Peace dollar. The condition of the coin also matters a lot when you sell.
Thanks! Curious and it may be FL specific. But what was different about the two pieces that would have required paperwork? I couldn’t see what they were. Non govt issued?

6:55 THE LARGEST CALCULATOR I HAVE EVER SEEN !! BLIND PROOF !!😂😂😂 LOL
The silver jar has had satisfaction!! *JUSTICE!!*
Man you are right
I haven't found any coin shop owners in my area as nice as Guy. I wish I lived in your area.
Your real life experience format videos are truly excellent! Well prepared, smooth, and most importantly informative! Being able to "see" things first works best for me! Thank you!
I’m glad you enjoy it. I wanted to offer something different and it looks like it’s working.
Fun and educational content....love it!!
So far there another person who knows about coins and this person is 2nd,.so awesome I have to checks my coins thanks
Your guy prices were great!! I loved the video, and those bars looked phenomenal!!!
Real honest. My local coin shop wanted to give 70% melt
MsLoulew123 just like anything there are dishonest people everywhere too bad. They’re trying to trick you and make some money. There are also those coin shops that don’t know anything and sell coins to you for under melt! Every cloud has a silver lining I guess.
That was fun, thanks. Yes, I am new at this!
I am a Bangladeshi and I have interest on Numismatic and Philatelic. Through your video, I have come to know about numismatic of America. Hope, I will get more videos from you about numismatic. Thank you.
I wish I was closer to this shop. Thank you for these videos.
Thanks for watching!
Sounds like you have a good thing going!
Enjoyed the time with y’all.
Thx for the video. Good learning experience.
That was another good video! I'm definilty going to take A trip to see him. No doubt. Thanks again Speg!
You're welcome. Let me know how you like it.
Awesome video! Thanks for showing us what to expect.👍 Everyone has their little stash of coins stashed away, wondering what to do with them.
Right on. I figured this is your typical coins one may end up with.
i truly am fascinated with this gentleman
A coin shop owner has to cover overhead so I make this comment starting with that. He has spent a lifetime learning what he knows to feed his family. His livelihood depends on estate coins left by collectors to be sold by heir's who are not collectors. If you inherit a large coin collection, unless you are going to spend the decades like this man has to become an expert or sell them one at a time on ebay this is how you sell your collection
Guy has many of his customers tell him Coin Guy card left with their collection if family needs to sell. A few have come in over the years and always sad when a regular dies.
I would love to go to his store and buy some of his coins!
Give him a call!
Thank you so much spegtacular for this video. I learned a lot. Some generalizations. Generally gold and silver does not fetch a lot unless you hold it for a long time and buy certain key dates like that 1921 Peace dollar. The condition of the coin also matters a lot when you sell.
You’re welcome.
Excellent presentation! Thank you!
Honest advice. 👍 Any collectors out there? 🤑
What a great video. Scratch a design on any of them would make them more valuable :)
good information. this is a real case scenario.
It is and I wanted a video that shows people what they could expect.
Thanks! Curious and it may be FL specific. But what was different about the two pieces that would have required paperwork? I couldn’t see what they were. Non govt issued?
Thanks Mike. FL must be afraid of ‘Scarface’ buying and selling bullion.
This is FL specific for sure. Although, other states could very well have such laws in place. These laws for FL are apparently pretty old.
Great Video I’ve experienced that before for sure! Great info, thanks for sharing!
Any time!
Love it! So strange for us over here in England to see a shop owner (or anyone else) wearing a gun on his hip.
Very common here in Florida.
yup us americans are "free" but very paranoid living in prisons of our minds
srats56, 😂.
You have a right to protect yourself and others from harm. Too bad the rest of the world lets its government take its guns.
