I finally decided to put it all together into a video and this was the result. So I hear that genius and divine are not compatible together as in their passive is in conflict. Is this true? Can you confirm which is better? I main with cyclops michigan #1
So you have 3 questions here:
1. Are Genius Wand and Divine Glaive compatible with each other?
Well, they're not totally incompatible, but their passive mechanics are indeed somewhat in conflict. From my tests, Magic Defense Reduction from Genius Wand gets applied first, before Magic Penetration is calculated. Which means you get less Penetration from Glaive when you also use Genius Wand, since Glaive's effect is based on the enemy Magic Defense. The exception to this is when the enemy Magic Defense is so high that even after Genius Wand's Defense Reduction is applied, the enemy still has more than 200 Magic Defense, which means Glaive's effect is still at it's maximum (a scenario that doesn't happen often). In most cases, enemies' magic defense usually range between 40-120, in which you only gain ~4 to 13% damage increase by pairing both... you probably get more utility or damage with other items. Admittedly, I've not done exact maths on this recently, so take this with a grain of salt if you will.
2. Which is the better item?
I'm painting the picture in a broad stroke here as different heroes work better with Genius Wand. I would say early game, go with Genius Wand, given that enemies' are probably still trying to build up their Magic Defense, and the flat Defense Reduction that Wand gives is better in the early game when Magic Defense is still low. In the late game, enemies would have built up some Magic Defense, so Glaive would be more handy given it's percentage based calculations. Personally, I build up to Glaive, and then sell Genius Wand for something else in the Late Game for most of the mages I play.
3. What's better with Cyclops?
Firstly, congrats on being #1 Cyclops in Michigan! I would strongly recommend what I suggested in my answer to Question 2 since Cyclops can easily trigger stacks on Genius Wand with his multi-hit skills, meaning you get the full effect easily. I would regularly check on the scoreboard to see if enemy Magic Defense are going above 60, by which I would get Glaive, and keep Genius Wand if they're going above 200+. Otherwise, you can sell Genius Wand for something else like Holy Crystal/Blood Wings for more Damage, or Winter Truncheon/Ice Queen/Immortality for more utility.
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming thank you so much much I was not expecting such a detailed response. I appreciate more than you know 🙏🙏🙏🙏
No worries man! Good luck with the climb to #1 US Cyclops!
Bro wasn't like there a update when war axe came out that Pen (percentage) being calculated before pen (point) ... That leaves me to wonder if Def reduction isn't same as pen(point) .. thansk
I prefer to buy it rather than genius wand in midlane mages

@@RubyRubyRubyGaming you're soo underrated i'mma your channel to my friends

Assassin Dave did
I agree… ruby is damn good at explaining this. The amount of passion he has for this game
Is it just me, or does anybody else have Glaive in all of their mage builds? Let me know if you also do the same! 😺
Whici is better glowing wand or divine glaive ?
This will depend on the enemy hero picks and their builds.
In general, you will want to build glowing wand most of the time on your mages which have high frequency dmg skills like Yve, Chang'e, Harley, etc. Their skills hit many times which trigger glowing wands effect very well. Or when the enemies have high HP since glowing wand does more damage versus high HP enemies.
Divine Glaive is usually a must buy for most mages in higher ranks as enemies tend to build magic defense items to counter magic damage. But if you notice the enemies not building magic defense, you can actually not build divine glaive since other items can do more in this case.
Hope that helps!

Well . Dat wud be.. without glaive my magic build is incomplete... A fact here. Divine glaive is always in my slot 3 of magic build.

Very informative analysis however i would like to mention that Holy crystal does amplify other items heavily such as Calamity reaper (true damage) and Blood wings(movement speed and shield).
Thank you for adding to the discussion 😀 Holy Crystal does add value to those items aye. The information in the video is more general as unfortunately, going into every magic hero would probably make the video too long.

Thank you, and the UA-cam algo 😂 Yeah, I think Mobile Legends is kinda simple and casual enough that most players just go with the flow without thinking too much about efficiencies and stuff, which is totally fine - and what I did for years playing this game. Very nice content again very detailed and Divine Glaive is also one of my favourite items to build in Natan Hi Idol I'm one of your newest subscriber thank you for giving a very detailed explanation ❤
Welcome back my friend! 😁
This is by far the best guide on penetration items I've seen. Divine glaive is a must in high rank lobbies, because almost every time enemy will try to use some defense against you.
Thank you! Yeah, it's very common that enemies will eventually build some form of Magic Defense. 😄
This helped me with bursting down tanks in 5 or 7 minutes or so nice guide/explanation
Glad I could help 😊
Great video. Never seen anything as articulate as this on YT. Subbed. Also, between HOly Crystal and BloodWings which item is better and for which situations should I use them. generally I only use one of them and I can't see a difference between them except that Bloodwings has that shield passive. Plus I never see them in anyone's build. Is Bloodwings just that inferior?
That's very kind bro, thanks for the sub too! 😄 Well, I think the main "problem" most people have with Blood Wings is the cost. Holy Crystal can achieve what Blood Wings does at 2/3s of the price. Blood Wings is still a decent item... but most people find other items better probably.
if someone is curious and wanna know why genious wang does so much damage when defense is 0 compared to holy cristal, it’s because genious wang is the one and only item that can make negative penetration, and that is actually insane about damage to kill squishy heroes etc
Yeah, Glaive isn't able to create the negative penetration situation without any help.
Damn, these are insane dude, really should be blowing up more xd
Glad you liked it 😇 Planning on a Malefic Roar one soon-ish.

Hey thanks for this it's really helpful! Gave a lot of insights. I have a question, did you take into account heroes with higher ap ratios? Like Aurora, Eudora?

Heya! Nice analysis, love the charts! One thing though, Gem's passive works on all magic power + levels, so if you have more magic items (ie Blood Wings), the total magic power shoots up considerably.
Worth considering, most likely would push glaive to a 5th or 6th item build imo.
I think you're referring to Holy Crystal when you're saying Gem?
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming possibly.

Good video and analysis! Also, I think the music is a little loud
Thank you! Yeah, I was still figuring out the volume levels in this video (my first one)! Thanks for the feedback 🙃
Hi bro, I've recently started doing voiceovers for my vids but finding it very difficult to add subtitles. What app did you use to add the subtitles? Because I'm typing the whole thing in yt editor :')
I was using Premiere for the making of this video 😄
I love how in-depth your videos are when it comes to mechanic testing! Well done man!
But quick question about holy crystal (which is always a point of curiosity). I am a mage main and have usually chosen many items over HC (glaive, fleeting time, glowing wand, even blood wings in the new patch), but because it scales with total magic power, doesnt it mean that as you buy items with more magic power (e.g. blood wings, COD, etc.) it's effectiveness goes up as well?
An example of comparison to look at could be a mage with:
1) Pen boots, COD, Lightning Truncheon, Genius Wand, Holy Crystal, Blood Wings
vs.
2) Pen boots, COD, Lightning Truncheon, Genius Wand, Glaive, Blood Wings
Just as a point of curiosity. Because I usually would just sell the genius wand and replace it with glaive in most builds ;D
Yes you're right, the value of Holy Crystal scales with your total Magic Power since it gives more with more Magic Power. For your 2 example builds, the first one will probably be more effective in more situations, while the 2nd is effective when >2 enemies have very high magic def (I haven't calculated for Glaive+Genius Combo, so I can't tell how much Magic Def it is exactly). You typically won't want Genius/Glaive in the same build because their mechanics are sort of in conflict.
Usually I will replace Genius with Glaive in the late game when enemies have high enough Magic Defense. But if enemies choose not to build Magic Defense, Genius Wand works better (depends on the mage you're playing too).
Well done bro. It's very awesome that you put clear numbers.
I build Devine glaive and malefic as 3rd items most of the time.
Even previous season I one time built malefic while using Granger as 1st item. Since tanks go for dominance as 1st item most of the games. And his damage was too strong even at early game. After it I started experimenting and understood that they take effect even at early stages.
If I'm not mistaken. Their passive also works against creeps. Clearing jungle and turtle becomes much faster after ignoring Def.
Yeah, after testing you'll realize just how strong Glaive can be. I haven't gone into deep testing with Malefic, but I'm expecting roughly the same.
As for the passive working on jungle creeps... pretty sure it doesn't, but I haven't done any testing to confirm this, so you may still be right.
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming a small test can confirm it. Mini sword item and Malefic and compare damage. I will do it rn and tell you the result
Aite let us know how it goes
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming yup with malefic roar you deal more damage to creeps than with legion sword alone. And they both have the same attck point (60) .
I used lvl 1 Granger.
With legion sword basic attack damage was 187
With Malefic roar basic attack damage was 210
That's a big difference because it was at first minute of the game. And the creeps defense increases throughout the game.
Didn't try it on lord and turtle but I'm sure it does too.
Don't forget to shout-out if you made a video about it XD

I knew most of it but the u explained it is so deep
Now you know even more eh 😉
This guy deserves more viewers.
i came from your comparison video about genius wand and divine glaive, and i have to really say thank you !! I'm a Gusion main with over 3000 games on him, and iv'e never actually considered that genius wand makes divine glaive lose power because magic def reduction takes place before the penetration is applied. I know builds should be situational, but for Gusion it is pretty straight foward most of the time, which is maximizing his burst potential so my sidelane ganks dont turn into walks of shame.
With this logic i figured out that buying PEN boots and Genius Wand right after is actually pointless, since reduction can be a negative value, but penetration not, which totally screws the reason why i bought the shoes in the first place. So my course of action was to design a build that takes this into account. I transitioned my early to mid game to PEN boots, holy crystal and then Divine Glaive, rounding it up with either a more defensive approach with a late clock, winter and blood wings, or going for more burst potential with switching clock and winter with glowing wand and a flat lightning truncheon.
What can i say, my overall damage since then increased by about 15% in every single game. I really have to thank you, my old build was buying both items, so i basically wasted a good chunk of glaives passive while losing an entire item slot and doing less damage in the early game.
Actually you should keep building Arcane Boots together with Genius Wand if you want to maximize your early game damage. Arcane Boots +10 PEN works together with Genius Wand, since Arcane Boots provides Flat PEN, which means it will always provide +10 PEN regardless of the enemy's Magic Defense stats. Divine Glaive is affected because its % PEN is calculated from the enemy Magic Defense.
I'm still working out whether it's worth it to mix Genius + Glaive together, because it may still be worth it to combine the 2. Penetration is pretty OP in terms of damage.
But I'm glad to have actually helped increase your Gusion's overall damage so far! Thank you for the support bro 😄
Dang yesterday you were 200 now almost 300

this is the shit that i was looking for, no one explain how damage formula works or compare each item with this depth
but i wonder how the new glowing wand fare compared to other item now
That's a whole video in itself I believe. It'll mostly depend on the hero using it, and whether it can keep the passive triggered constantly.
That's mind blowing can you recommend best magical damage items combination 😅
This usually depends hero to hero. I'd recommend checking out @StrongwillGameTheory if you're interested in specific hero builds. They do in-depth research into heroes and recommend the best builds for them!
We need MORE from you.
Good news. I'll be making more, so stay tuned!
very good video. my rule as a mythic glory rank player is for damage over time (valir, lylia etc) i buy genius wand, and for burst damage (eudora, xavier etc) will buy divine glavie
Yeah Genius works extra good with DOT stuff since its easier to maintain the debuff and stacks!
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming hey bro jus to add for holy crystal, it is better to build it when your hero mage scales highly with magic stats, say when i play bane, because of how the greater the stats of my magic , reduces my cooldown, and how the dmg scales with the stats, like sabre, its better to get stats first. sabre the same with choosing blade of despair over malefic roar right? not sure haha maybe u can do another video on physical damage one like this video bro
I don't know if this has been asked here but does the whole 100 Magic Def also apply to Physical Def where its ok to build Malefic once the enemy has 50+ Physical Def? or is it better to use the other Physical Pen Items like Blade of the Heptaseas/Hunter Strike/War Axe?
Great video btw and I have a tiny suggestion... You should make a Ruby guide (can be offensive or defensive ruby or both XD) just coz its in the name haha XD and because I used to play her a lot b4, she's still my most used hero even though I haven't played her that much now, but not anymore when I transitioned to be a jungle main.
I'm working on a video to answer that question, so stay tuned!
Hahaha! Yeah, good idea. Not sure when I'll be making that though 😆
Bro amazing content and explanation . Since you share such informative content about mlbb, can you tell me if Esmeralda is still playable in this meta if yes how to play her? I feel after her latest nerf no one gives a sht about her anymore and from my experience she's become lowkey weak, she can't absorb shields to full potential. I wanna know if she's unplayable at all, or against certain compositions, or my playstyle is wrong. What do you suggest in buffing her as well. Would really appreciate making a video about her!
She may have fallen in the XP Lane pecking order, but she's definitely not totally unplayable. IMO, she's still strong right now, even if not considered Top 10 (XP has so many options right now). I think she kinda suffers abit late game versus the existing Meta Gold laners which might be the start of the problems she has at the moment. Melissa has her Ult shield, Claude never appears until he comes in with his ult, Wanwan kites her like crazy, and Beatrix and all of the above can melt her like butter. Add to that, she can't really bully any of the top XP laners early game to get an early lead like she used to. If anything, I probably want them to slightly buff her shield again 😂
THATS GREAT TO KNOW SINCE IM MAIN MAGE, Ty vm
You're welcome bro 😁
If there's gameplays, comes mlguide, masterthebasics, hororo and betosky then this guy pops out
The thing is that most people mostly people who's new to playing marksman, mage, and many assasin heroes never bother to buy a magic defense item, so for assasin mage like selena, kagura it's gonna be better to buy genius wand most of the time. I only buy divine glaive if the enemy I'm trying to lock bought a magic defense item
Kinda true, so just adjust as per necessary. Glaive is useful when they do smarten up and buy some Magic Defense. 😉
Is the graph for damage 120/(120+x) where x is the amount of defense?
I would argue on when it should be bought as the penetration it gives is percentage based, meaning if u have more magic damage, u get more penetration, so with high magic power items like holy crystal should be bought before hand. Additionally with the unique passive of holy crystal, i would recommend building blood wings for some mages as it has the highest magic stat and it complements the 35% magic damage increase of holy crystal and divine glaive since both are percentage based. That is it, have a nice day.
Divine Glaive penetration is based off Enemy's magic defense stats, not your magic damage. So having higher magic damage does not increase Glaive's effect in terms of penetration. It must be said though that when your damage is higher, glaive's effectiveness breakpoint versus other magic items is also lowering, thus making it more effective when you have more damage.
This is really impressive
Thank you! 😁
can u do a video that compares what is the best 1st item for harley genius/ glowing or tuncheon?
Might be a bit too specific for a single video, but I'll see if I can include this detail somewhere!
One of my matches opponent Harley's first item was divine he was melting everyone like butter. So i also tried that that was good but I don't find any different from genius wand.
Genius is usually better as an early item compared to Glaive, as Genius provides a fixed amount of penetration which is better in early since enemies have low magic defense. Glaive isn't good early since enemy magic defense is low.
You should also consider your team composition when purchasing it. For example; If you have 5 magic damage based heroes it would be natural for your enemies to bank on some Magic Def, if all of the enemies have purchased tough boots and Athena's Shield then it amount to them having around 129 magic Defense at level 15. If one of your teammates is Silvana then her passive reduces their Magic Def by 30 at ful stacks making it 99 Magic def, then If your Jungler is Say Harley it's minus 20 more Magic Defense which leaves us at 79 Magic Def. Devine Glaive would give all of you 65 Magic Power and 42,9% (33,89 magic pen in this instance) Magic penetration against that target which results in 45 Magic Def left. In cotrast if Every single one of your teammates has a Genius Wand (since the effect of the item stacks for each unique player applying its effect onto a target) It would be 10+(21*5)=115 Magic Penetration, that results in Negative 36 Magic resistance, that boosts all of your damage. That is Without any of your having Arcane Boots and Magic Pen from Emblems.
Even Two Genius Wands at max stacks would give both of you 52 Magic Penetration against that target which is 20 more magic penetration than A Divine Glaive would give to any of you. So Devine glaive is Really just a late game item That I would personally only buy if I am the only mage on the Team and the Enemy Carry has Both Tough Boots and Athena's SHield.
It all depends on the current situation. Imo buying divine glaive on either Harley or Silvana is a waste of gold unless you're super deep into the late game and are selling your boots for it.
Solid advice, thank you

this very good video. how about combining genius wand and glowing wand vs divine glaive as the first 2 gives better stats like movement speed, extra hp and damage? it would be an interesting topic. thanks
I agree, it would be really interesting to analyze that combo of items. Thank you!
Glaive would definitely be the better option here, cost-wise and it only takes one item slot. Also take into account what kind of damage does your hero deal, Burst or DoT? If its burst I wouldn't recommend these two (Aside from Gusion(and the same kinds of heroes, like Harley), who is burst but deals multiple instances of damage in one moment. Glaive is always more efficient in all cases especially in the late game, just like ruby said, where you would sell Genius for Glaive. If I was using a DoT hero tho it stick to using these three items as they're the most efficient at dealing with tanky builds. And for burst I'd just use Glaive.
I normally buy this item once tanky heroes starting to build magical defense items. This one plus Genius wand are both great items. ;)
Good choice😄
I'm one of those guys that put glaive in all my magic hero builds lol 🤣
Looks like a found a brother HAHA
Divine glavie is situational. Use it only when opponents has high magic resist. If the enemy has only the tank building magic defence its better to take higher magic attack so you can brust down the back liners like mm and mage. If they die, the tank will become useless even if he has full magic resist.
bro deserves subscribes
Appreciate it my friend 😁
no genius wand or holy crystal was hurt during making of this video
🤣 Should have had a disclaimer at the start of the vid
I would love to see a video for mages and one for tanks to buy items during the game, depending what enemies mages and marksmen are buying. if i go with balmond on max hp and 3 of them get deamon hunter, should i switch then my strategy for example
Ah, sort of like an itemization theory guide - I'd like to do that in future. Thanks for the suggestion!
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming yes :)
Nice
Thank you!
Do you think they should create another item with resilience attribute? Cc in the current meta is abundant like crazy and there are many melee heroes who suffer from cc chain. Might it help or it will become broken if they make it?
Good question - My personal opinion is they could may be consider adding one for resilience in the Physical Defense side of items since it only exists with Tough Boots right now.
Hi new suscriber ❤
Thanks for the sub! Is your channel name in any way related to Nana? 🤣
@@RubyRubyRubyGaming lmaoo well, I actually named it "Molina" cus it was cute and since I use Nana🌼
@@SwanMelodia 🤣 I like using Nana too since it's quite relaxing to use her. Just keep plopping Molina everywhere and listen to her cute voice quotes
Lol ur vid now im subed
Thanks for subbing! 😄
what's better to prioritise in using mage in early ? damage or sustainability(no need to go back to base more often)? pick up kills or focus on gold?
Good question, depends a lot on the game situation and hero choice IMO. If your team needs your damage early, defo more damage, and if they need you to scale for late game then survival is key. It's best if you have damage, and can survive just based off good positioning and map awareness tho. And of course, good teammates who can help you peel effectively 😂
I have seen fanny player building Malefic roar 1st item.
Might as well try glaive on mage.
I'd ask you to check out the scoreboard and check enemies' magic defense stat before buying Glaive bro, don't just do it without much thought if possible!
