Overpay by a couple of mil but not a bad contract. Still tradeable. I pegged hausers value at about 9-10M per. While it is an overpay and firmly entrenches the celtics in the 2nd apron next season, its better to extend him for a tradeable contract than lose him for nothing. In case, they want to get off his contract next season, the opposing team will feel more comfortable giving up assets like picks for him. The extension also removes any distractions from Sam's mind and he can just focus on playing ball next season. Happy for him to get his bag. Good guy.
Totally agree! And I think we will see more of these slight overpays by apron teams, as it gives them bigger contracts to work with in the trade market due to not being able to aggregate salaries. I'm also with you on being happy for Sam. To go from undrafted to $45 million with a championship ring isn't easy. Great start to his career!
@@TaylorTalksCeltics yup. As long as its not too costly to be a massive overpay/bad contract. this should give them flexibility in case they want to address another need via trade and in case they need to dump him for picks, the cap space team wont feel bad giving up picks for a good young player locked up long term on a reasonable contract. With that said i expect the Cs to trade him in 2Y. same with PP. Maybe even KP (if they cant re-sign him on a major discount). Really tough to stay on the 2nd apron for 3 consecutive years (to say nothing of the repeater taxes) and lose a future 1st Rd Pick. Now theres 1 guy left who hasnt gotten his extension yet: springer. You think he did enough in SL to work out an extension with the Cs or do they risk letting him walk next offseason for nothing?
