This music video is an art piece. And I’m just barely old enough to remember when MTV released it. Like 7,8ish year old me loved her cuz she was showing up every Saturday morning on pro wrestling and putting out BOPS. Love this woman for 35 years running
I believe it really is her mom in the video. Her dad is played by "Captain Lou" Albano, he was a pro wrestler. Cyndi was a guest in WWE wayyy back in the day. Such a fun song. Thank you!
This was & I hope still is a Girls Anthem. Every time it would play in the 80’s, every girl was up, dancing and singing with each other. Great memories of great times.
When Cyndi made this video she fought long and hard to have all types of women represented. Most of the people in the video are family or friends. She has often said that she wanted every woman and little girl in the world to see that video and feel like they were entitled to a joyful life no matter what they looked like. I love her so much! She's the real deal and you don't really know the power of her voice until you see her live. She's fantastic and doesn't have to rely on hydraulics, lifts, fireworks and huge costume changes to keep you riveted.
I was in high school when this came out and this was an anthem! Its a light hearted fun song but as a girl in the 80s it was so powerful. Don’t hide your light under a bushel !
This song came out in 1984, during the golden age of MTV. My daughter who was four years old at the time, loved it, and "She's so Unusual" was the first album I ever bought for her. This brought back a lot of fond memories.
I've always loved that the group of girlfriends was diverse in ethnicity and color and look. It's good to remember that the album was called SHE'S SO UNUSUAL. Love watching your stuff India!
Here dad was played by Cat. Lou Albano who was a professional wrestler during my childhood through the 70s and 80s and that was her actual mom in the video..... I love Cyndi!!!!!!
Trivia: the song was originally written from a male perspective, complaining that girls just want to have fun. Cyndi changed it into a feminine anthem. More trivia: the scene when they explode out of the bedroom was an homage to the Marx Brothers stateroom scene in A Night At The Opera.
He wasn't complaining that girls want to have fun. The lyrics are almost identical. When he says "All my girls are gonna walk in the sun!" it isn't exactly mysoginistic. He loves them fun-loving girls. ua-cam.com/video/5aLNwOxPsjg/v-deo.html
Lol I had strict Asian parents and this was what I promised myself as soon as I left home and got a job. By then of course I was tired and cash strapped so parents make sure you give kids freedom when they can actually enjoy it lol!
"I'm Gonna Be Strong" is a must for you to check out. I Love Cyndi Lauper. She is so underrated and very talented. She really has a beautiful voice. That is her real mom in the video. I love how different she is , she's so unique! She is Awesome!
"She is so unusual" was the very first album I bought from my allowance when I was a kid. I loved that album so very much. It is still one of my favourites after all those years .. I have it on my Ipod since today. My favourite song from the album is "Witness" .. + "money changes everything"
Cyndi Lauper just posted this on her Facebook page loving all over it! Congratulations!! I first heard this song when I was a teenager and have loved it ever since.
I fell in love with Cyndi's voice as soon as I heard it. And I love New York and this video. She's such a positive and talented woman. She genuinely loves people and it shows.
This came out in my senior year in high school and it nearly broke the radio. It was played night and day and we never got tired of it. I saw her in concert the year she released this album and was the best thing I have ever witnessed! Her energy, originality, and humanity, like nothing I have ever witnessed before! This is an anthem that will live into the centuries, as long as there are girls and gay guys in the world. She is a treasure and not just for her songs, she is also an Emmy-Winning, and Tony-Winning actress/writer/producer! Never-Ever another Cyndi!
In the 60's, we sang about social issues. In the 70's, we were recovering form the Vietnam War and morale was at an all-time low. In the 80's, we just wanted to have fun, get on the dance floor, and let it all go with crazy colors and styles. It was a decadent "about me" decade because we were just tired of fighting everything for the last 20 years.
It's not Orbison's song. It was written by a couple of song writers who first offered it to Orbison. When he did not show interest in releasing the song, they gave it to Lauper instead. She released it in 1989 and it was a big hit. Roy's version (which sold much fewer copies) was released posthumously in the 90s.
Interesting footnote: Cyndi's band in this song, and on her album "She's So Unusual" is The Hooters, who also had several very popular hits in the 80s.
Cindy was the 80's, and this is the 80's in a single video. The clothing, the hairstyles, the instrumentation, the tune. One of my favorites to blast the windows out every saturday.
I love this reaction video ! It’s so cool watching other generations enjoying cyndis music . Cyndi has been an an icon all throughout my life since I was 13 back in 1984. Her live concerts are amazing seen her 8 times .here are some live concerts u can watch. U won’t regret it. Cyndi live in Paris. Cyndi Lauperl live at last. Another good like one is live in Yokohama japan 1991.
My mother is 80 and still loves this song. I remember her dancing with the vacuuming in her hands as she cleaned the house in her 30s. When this song came out in 1983 they played it to death on the radio all day! every day! 😳 😝😝😝
Casting my mind back over sixty+ years of popular music I can honestly say I don't remember a better pop record. Forget blues, (old style) R&B, which I love. This is what POP is all about. Brilliant, and still making me smile at 71 (and a half).
You’re a joy!! Thank you for making the world a little happier after work for me! I love music so much and it’s so fun to see other people react to the greats!

It changed everything. check the phone action with the cords. A diverse group of girls. this was the 80's. Gold. She's on the cover of the book American Fashion. What a chick. So many hits.
My youngest daughter loves this piece. The first time I heard this song was in 1984.My oldest daughter, who was 7 at the time, always wanted me to dance with her to this song.
My dad was a wedding DJ who specialized in 50's and 60's music, but he would occasionally buy top 10 songs he'd heard on the radio and liked. This was the first song I remember him bringing home on a 45 record when I was 7 years old. I've been a Cyndi Lauper fan ever since. Thanks for the nostalgia!
"Money Changes Everything", "She Bop", "Time After Time", "Girls Just Want to Have Fun-Remix" she did the remix of that song for the soundtrack on a movie called "To Wong Foo. Thanks for everything! Julie Newmar" featuring Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo in drag. If you haven't seen it, it's a cute classic comedy.
Very happy to see this one! This was the start of the Rock 'N Wrestling Connection. Cyndi appeared as Wendi Richter's manager at the first Wrestlemania. Cyndi is long overdue to be inducted in the WWE Hall of Fame. Next up, "The Goonies 'R' Good Enough"...
I love that you are doing Cyndi. I have been a huge Lauper fan forever. There is no other artist like her. She's true, a really good person, fun and endearing, and has a kick ass voice. Please cover some of her other songs too please, like Time After Time, Change of Heart and more.
I can Never watch this cool video without waiting for a glimpse of that adorable Steve Fobert ( Little Stevie Orbit) showing up to the party with flowers!! So sweet....Oh, my...I had such a crush on him!!!
I grew up in a very abusive & isolating adoptive family - meaning I didn't have a voice, didn't have an outlet, didn't have a sense of identity or origin. So music became my outlet, my escape, & empowered me in ways I never could have understood or vocalized at the time. It breathed & spoke life in me. It was healing. It was life changing & life saving. Cyndi Lauper's song, "Girls Just Want To Have Fun", especially justified me, in a lot of ways, because there was a lot of attempted brainwashing & verbal abuse going on. I think without the music I grew up on, I would have succumbed to a lot more , & might have ended my life....
Couple of things: Cyndi CAN SANG (ask Miss Patti Labelle). The lady in the video was actually Cyndi's (real life) mom. And the clothes were from thrift shops (though she probably spends more on rags these days)... lastly this song is practically an anthem for women's empowerment. Classic 80s joint.
You should watch this live on that talk show in the 80s. 1984 Tonight Show With Johhny Carson. Awesome performance allong with the song Time After Time.
Cyndi Lauper is my girl and I have been playing this video for my 2 year old granddaughter since she was just 8 months old. She loves it and loves to dance to it.
Female artists are just always fun to listen to. Girl power rocks! Speaking of girl power, The Spice Girls is a group of female artists I absolutely think you'd love!!
it is her mom. I love this song, it was big when I was a freshman in high school. When I got married last October I used it as the song to toss my bouquet!
Growing up with these artists was something special. The music, the fashion, the carefree I just wanna have a good time and have fun attitude reflected the era in pop culture and there's never gonna be anything like it ever again. It makes me happy to see you enjoying this and what it was a part of. Music these days is such a shame compared to the 80s. I suggest you take a good look at Vixen. They were an all girl rock group and they were AMAZING to say the least. They showed that women could rock out just as hard as the boys did and they did it all on their own. Also check out the bangles, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Pat Benetar, Cher and of course the late great Whitney Houston who got her start in the 80s. All amazing women who played a huge part in the bigger picture that was 80's music. The best ever. Please check out these artists and put up some videos I like your reactions and how real you are and how much your truly enjoying the music.
Just love the 80s, my second decade of my live... Love your reaction from these very old but all time great songs. I'll suggest please to react to Billy Joel ..j just the way you are And Mrs Diana Ross, great stars of the 60s, 70s and 80s. All their songs were all time hits from these Iconic stars.....
I really love to see your reactions. I was a teen in the 80’s. It really was the best time in music history. Keep going, girl! You’re doing a great job!
This is one of my favorite of all your reaction videos. Seeing the joy on your face and the fact that you couldn't even stay in your seat. This song was such an anthem. You should check out the album this comes from "She's So Unusual." It's one of the best albums of the '80s and is just one brilliant song after another.
This was part of the Rock N Wrestling connection, with Lou Albino playing her dad, who was a wrestling manager for WWF/WWE. Cyndi Managed Wendi Richter in wrestling, WRESTLEMANIA number 1... before we knew there was ever going to be another one.
Cindi Lauper was always so underrated for her vocal power.
I’m 70 years old and I still just want to have fun!! 😂
I have a saying for myself, "Girls just wanna have fun......but ESPECIALLY RETIRED girls"!! enjoy your life!🥳💕
Time after time is another good Cyndi song
it's definitely one of her best

Yep. That's her real life mom. She's in several of her early videos.
Lou Albano shows up in a bunch of her videos after this one. That seems like a fun friend group
Lou Albano was also Mario in the Super Mario Bros. Super Show back in the day. #DoTheMario!
Didn't she date Hulk Hogan back then?
Folk singer Steve Forbert is the boyfriend

Funny thing is that it's a girl's anthem but was originally sang and written by a male named Robert Hazard.
Your gonna make me cry lol

You should check out the album this comes from "She's So Unusual." It's one of the best albums of the '80s and is just one brilliant song after another.
This is a Great hit .I like since the firt time When it came out in the 80's I listened to it on the Miami FM
This was part of the Rock N Wrestling connection, with Lou Albino playing her dad, who was a wrestling manager for WWF/WWE. Cyndi Managed Wendi Richter in wrestling, WRESTLEMANIA number 1... before we knew there was ever going to be another one.
I love how you kept jumping up during this song! Such an awesome jam!
