I bought a 2017 left over. Touring 2.5 /w 6 spd manual. Best FWD I've ever driven. Fun! It feels like when I going into a corner, the front end digs in. And instead of going wide, feels like the front wheels are pulling front end around the turn. Almost uncanny. I'm getting much better tires as I have Michelin Ice for winter. I can imagine ditching the OEM Dunlaps is the key to really making this car handle. And, I've got newly mounted Firestone Indy 500s ready for this spring. Should be very interesting. Can't wait!
Quite possibly the best car in its class, quite possibly even the best car under $30K. We have a 2014 3 Sport in the family and it's held up extremely well over the years, very fun to drive and bulletproof reliability. It fired up every cold winter morning, even those days where it dipped under -25.
Don't be like a Chevy spokesperson equating initial quality with long-term reliability. Not saying Mazda3 is unreliable, but your claims hold very little weight in an era of reliable (initially) cars.
phil chao I've already had a customer with 200,000 km, she drives a lot for work related things with her skyactiv mazda. Idk where you get the idea that they are falling apart.
Bought this very model late last year. It's my daily driver and I love it. I'm a former Volkswagen guy and you're right, you get a lot of car for the money. Looking forward to the next generation though.
misamisatv Ah ha! So you do understand the kind of resentment I have (though against Mazda). ;) I had a VW before the Mazda. Also junk in its own way, but actually probably better. I seemed to have less problems with it, surprisingly enough now that I think about it.
Yeah, VW has done some ethically reprehensible things lately. But I was reading recently that the shit might hit the fan for BMW and Mercedes with their diesels too and that they may have been deceiving the world also with their diesel results.
This is a good vehicle especially as priced. It has good reliability and above average for its class. I did test drive one though and its OK at best, its simply not a hot hatch if thats what you want to be in , maybe on the refresh coming up but not now. I personally hate the screen on the dash, the HUD is a total dollarama joke, the cabin is a bit noisy, small rear seats and poor vision out the rearview mirror. Still though for someone looking for a reliable semi fun to drive vehicle that has low maintenance costs and overall good owner satisfaction this is still a good choice and hard to go wrong.....personally I hate them but I still give credit where its deserved and it is in this case.
Couldn't agree more love my 2 mazda's but you forgot to mention the 3year unlimited km warranty and the 5 year unlimited km warranty! A feature both mazda and reviewers never mention and should be a big selling feature for high km drivers like myself
I like the 3 , but the problem is rear seating has no leg room for adults, I sat in one and it was pretty nice and fun to drive , but as soon as I sat in the back , my legs were seriously cramped in long drive
I just took a test drive at the local dealer and I can tell you it's pretty much like driving my current Hyundai Elantra. I just found a few things I didn't like about Mazda. Switching from Trip A to Trip B and back to total miles is controlled by a cheap looking skinny plastic knob, almost a size of a toothpick. Has any Mazda owner broke it yet? Also, What's up with those buttons in horizontal position placed next to a coffee cupholders?, that's just a diseaster waiting ahead. How the hell do you clean it? Any feedback on that from Mazda owners? I have a chance to get 2018 Mazda GT hatch with 3000 miles, for $17 000 OTD, is this a good deal?
Works for me not problems, although I don't use it that much since the steering wheel switches and console switch are so convenient but it works when called upon.
i agree that this car is really driver's car it is really great to drive and really handles really well, just the Apple Carplay that needs to add up or update in Mazda's infotainment and that so sound excellent combination
I honestly considered this car, but the interest rate and the cost of borrowing added $4000 to the price. I ended up buying the Kia Forte which has the same features, slightly worse fuel economy, and was a lot less money.
The Kia will most probably outlast the Mazda by quite a few years ( if you keep your cars for a while ) - as you say there is a bit of a fuel penalty but dollar for value it's very hard to beat Kia...
You didn't get a zero percent loan from the bank, but through the auto maker's financial services. Come on, you think I was born yesterday and don't understand how things work?
My dad owned a Mazda 6 he bought new, and treated it the same way he treated the various Toyotas he has owned throughout his life. That is to say, very little. Well, the Mazda blew up at 170000 km. I hope my Kia lasts longer. I always baby my cars, enjoy doing maintenance and feel pretty confident I'll still be running strong with the car in ten years. My only concern is how to prevent rust. Torn between Krown or simply opening the door panels and pouring in mineral oil to protect the seams.
I got zero percent on my Kia, it was Toyota who was charging 8% interest. It has nothing to do with your credit rating, but what promotional offers are on tap.
I'm comparing the prices to Poland, where I live. A basic Golf costs here about 25 thousand CAD after conversion from Polish currency. And with this Mazda we're talking about a GT machine, so this price seems shockingly low to me - the price of a regular Fiat Tipo in Poland. It seems the prices are a lot higher here while the wages are a lot lower. I guess you're just lucky to be living in Canada.
Am enquiring about the cx5 not Mazda 3 as both share the same engine, so was wondering if it has the same problem as the current cx5 , 2017/2018s which are having cold start issues, and are being looked at by Mazda Canada, fir which a fix or recall is expected soon
I've never thought much of Mazda but the interior is nice, the exterior design isn't as good but it's above average. I think it'd be a good deal to buy this one at a discount when the new one comes out.
I drove a mazda with electronic assist steering, and it doesn't feel as good as my hydraulic assist from 05 tsx. Why reviewers say it's good? Is it b/c compare to other cars in its class?
+Liam Ross they weren't bitching, they were asking a legitimate question. They probably aren't familiar with electronic steering.why are you so rude dude
Liam Ross only the 2018 Subaru WRX STI is left using Hydraulic steering. We are at the end of an era. Soon, all new cars would not have any mechanically connected steering column, its like playing video games.
Corolla has the safety features standard. Mazda and Civic doesn't you'd have to buy the higher trim AND pay for the safety features. Also Mazda and Civic has a hump on the rear floor. Corolla doesn't But yeah Corolla isn't as Cool
True but its not like we are talking about german cars, they are all japanese and will surely last. Toyota gives you perhaps the best reliability at the cost of old technology and bad handling.
My 2004 Mazda 3 died at 145,000 km because the steering rack rusted out and the value of the car was so low due to the body being a rusty piece of shit that it wasn't worth repairing because the repair cost more than the car was worth. Furthermore, it broke a lot, especially the garbage suspension and brake components. Some say that was due to Ford at the time--I don't know for sure about that.
Rust is a concern with mazda but thats a concern with every japanese manufacture (the subject of the thread you are replying too). You should have taken some steps to protect your car from rust. 2004, first generation is quite different from a 2014 and yes many parts were from ford. Ford focus from that era had motor mounts that went bad constantly but bullet proof engines. Take a guess which part was made by ford and which was made by mazda? I have done more work on my 2014 than most people have (rebuilt the front end), and I was impressed with the engineering. I was coming from a 96 accord (possibly the best accord generation ever made) which I also did extensive work on.
Ivan Vojt you’re looking at and touching a screen while driving? Great, another moron on the road. Is the dial too hard for you to use? It has 3 movements. Can you learn 3 simple movements? Raise your left hand. Noooo, that’s your right.
The centre dial control is taking up valuable space IMO. I would rather have a larger storage console since everything could be done with the touch screen or through the steering wheel.
1. Mazda 3 base model doesn’t have AC unless you purchase a 1500 package while its competitors (Corolla, Jetta, etc) have AC 2. I am not convinced that Mazda 3 handles better than the civic 3. I find both 2.0 and 2.5 engines to be sluggish 4. Highest trim on Mazda is more expensive than an Audi A3 or Mercedes Benz CLA (base model).
Mazda3 GT sedan with Premium and Technology packages, and premium paint, has a MSRP of $30,466.99 Canadian including freight and PDI. Mercedes CLA250 base MSRP is $35,700 plus freight.
Scott Badcock i just built one on Mazda.ca and the sticker price was 36000ish including taxes and freight. Personally, I would prefer paying an extra 1000 or 2000 and drive an Audi A3. Otherwise, I would get a Honda Civic because it has so many standard options (LCC, lane departure warning, turbo engine, etc).
Rida Al Osman You have to be fair and compare apples to apples. The most basic A3 front wheel drive with no options stickers for 32,800 plus 2095 freight and PDI . That’s almost $5000 more plus taxes. I doubt they get cross shopped much as my local Audi has never seen one that basic. The ones they stock usually start at around $40,000 plus. The same thing with the Mercedes.
Mazda still holds the edge in handling FEEL, but Civic (especially the hatchback) has it beat in terms of objective handling #s (source: Car and Driver). Mazda will still "wins" in the handling department because of their decade-long marketing push. 2.0L engine is indeed sluggish. 2.5L is one of the best in class, and a good alternative to turbo Civic or Golf. Yes, GT trim Mazda 3 (with premium package) is overpriced in the segment. Last little tip bit, Mazda is still not offering Android Auto/Apple Carplay; something a significant portion of the consumers want. People give a lot of crap about Honda's infotainment offering, but Mazda's system is even more outdated. The saving grace is their knob control that APPEARS to be more premium than others.
Fine prints: all the goodies mentioned would require you to buy the top GT trim AND premium package; making the MSRP over $30K CAD pre-tax. Equally fun and/or well-packaged cars at similar or lower price point include: VW Golf/GTI (well... it's somewhat cheating to hunt from previous year models), Hyundai Elantra SPORT/GT, Honda Civic, and Subaru Impreza. Mazda3 GT is still competitive, but the GX/GS and laughable SE are losing its luster - cramped, under-powered and unrefined.
Offer more for the same price? That's a joke. I'm also from canada (Québec). I cross shopped the mazda 3 and golf. For 21 500$, i had apple car play, heated seats, electric seats and mags in the golf. For 21 300$, i had none of the above in the mazda 3. Then comes the test drive, the car was dead on the highway, no kickdown, badly insulated. The golf was much faster and felt much more premium. I gave them their chance and it's not on par with a golf.
Socially Normal You want him to say Mat-zuda?. That's the proper pronunciation according to the Japanese, but Mazda is the globally accepted term. So deal with it

Nikiaf GDI engines are prone to carbon buildup. Look it up. I bought this car and am now worried.
stop asking me to change my name! Was that a skyaktiv engine?
stop asking me to change my name! Thanks. Good to know!
Don't be like a Chevy spokesperson equating initial quality with long-term reliability. Not saying Mazda3 is unreliable, but your claims hold very little weight in an era of reliable (initially) cars.

4:52 porsche 718 cayman spotting!
Hell yeah. Drive that instead, right?
This looks better than the all new one, at least on the outside. Everything flows so much better.

Yes 2.5 L I believe 184 HP
and manual

Planning to buy this one. Not in a hurry. Should i wait for the 2019 mazda 3. Any idea when its going to come out?
Roy Pavithran it's going to be announced this November in the LA Auto show. Google it.
Wait until Q1 2019
Hope the next generation Mazda 3 will be based on the Kai concept design.
how do you turn off the fresh air button or does it stay on all the time?
I just took a test drive at the local dealer and I can tell you it's pretty much like driving my current Hyundai Elantra. I just found a few things I didn't like about Mazda. If you hate so much mich of little things go buy a lexus
How was the voice activation? Worked every time?
Basil Akasheh no. It’s infotainment system is very poor
Works for me not problems, although I don't use it that much since the steering wheel switches and console switch are so convenient but it works when called upon.

Are you talking Canadian Dollars?
So how can this car start at under $20,000? That's the price of some of the cheapest regular cars.
I'm comparing the prices to Poland, where I live. A basic Golf costs here about 25 thousand CAD after conversion from Polish currency. If they offered a Mazdaspeed version of their cars I'd be more interested. A GTI is just better in every way.
I just bought that exact colour and model and have driven UBC highway every day just for the buzz. Love it!
Yeah now you can get Apple Car Play at the dealer …. If you wanna pay $450 that is 😳😫🤦🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️
What about cold start issues? The cx5 2017 2018s have been having lots of vibrations and shuddering in Canada
I have a 2015 sport 2.0 It's always parked outside and has started in -26c° temperature with no issues.
Am enquiring about the cx5 not Mazda 3 as both share the same engine, so was wondering if it has the same problem as the current cx5 , 2017/2018s which are having cold start issues, and are being looked at by Mazda Canada, fir which a fix or recall is expected soon

That's true, but the Corolla is about as interesting to drive as a tractor.
Zach please review the new CX-5
2.5 producing less than 200hp, sound quite 1990s
under 30K for a Mazda is ludicrous. Stupid buys for stupid people
No AA or ACP, a no touch in motion touch screen, rear seat legroom sucks. You can keep that infotainment dial.
Infotainment dial is amazing, IDK WTF you are smoking. And yeah no motion touch screen is a bummer but it can be modded.
Ivan Vojt you’re looking at and touching a screen while driving? Great, another moron on the road.
Is the dial too hard for you to use? It has 3 movements. Can you learn 3 simple movements? Raise your left hand. Noooo, that’s your right.
David Tropp - Breaking news, people can touch a screen while driving AND remain safe. I know mind blowing
BoogieDownProduction I still don't get why the dials are hard to use
Ummmmm at 1:34 what is that creamy white stuff to the left of the parking brake? Eeewww
semen i think
The centre dial control is taking up valuable space IMO. I would rather have a larger storage console since everything could be done with the touch screen or through the steering wheel.

Mahz-da.
Mat-su-da
the question is: will it rust like all the other Mazda 3.?
Kia Stinger is my choice.

Cool car to drive. Good on gas. The voice operated NAV is a joke. No android auto or carplay. And it doesn't top out under $30k believe me.
sound deadening sucks
nice try toyota
Hmmm I still like the civic
Too bad it's made in Mexico
Moron it’s built in Japan
There are 2 versions Mexican ones and the Japanese ones. Mine is Japanese
First
Don’t like the front grille, it reminds me of a clown smiling!😝
it's matches the drivers face!!
Pronounce Mazda properly my dude
Socially Normal You want him to say Mat-zuda?. That's the proper pronunciation according to the Japanese, but Mazda is the globally accepted term. So deal with it
What the hell is a Maaz da......sounds like some sheep talking.....
Subaru Impreza is much better and your wallet will thank you when you sell it.
Having owned a 2004 Mazda 3 and a 2010 Legacy, as well as seeing extremely high mileage Outbacks my parents have owned, I vote for Team Subaru all the way! Especially now that they have solved the head gasket problem. I probably wouldn't consider one of the older ones for that reason, though.
I doubt it's any louder than a Mazda. Mazdas are notorious for using very little sound insulation.
Impreza has bad handling compared to this car.
The Impreza has all-wheel drive, therefore it gets the power to the pavement a lot better. I doubt the handling is "bad," since it would actually have more grip.
Being AWD isnt going to making it or break it when it comes to handling. These cars dont have much power so getting power to the ground is not a large concern. Go look at some car review channels that call it boring, then watch their reaction while test driving a mazda3. Put some quality all seasons like the continental DWS 06 and grip isnt a concern
I had a Mazda 3 for years. Boring car that rusted very quickly.
