  • WARNING: Graphic content.
French skier Valentin Giraud-Moine has a shocking fall during a downhill race at the German ski resort of Garmisch Partenkirchen on Friday, January 27, 2017. His team later confirmed he had fractured both legs.
Giraud-Moine wasn't the only one to fall. Six other skiers, including the American Steve Nyman and Canada's Erik Guay also crashed. Despite flipping, Guay was somehow able to avoid serious injury.

When skiing goes well we tend to cross the line from bravery to irresponsibility, that's when we fall. Skiing is probably the most enjoyable sports when you're doing well, and also one where you can endlessly challenge yourself.

That video really showed how hazardous that sport is and how they’re living on the edge I think at one minute and 40 seconds that steep drop that sent him into amazing high-speed and then I don’t know if his skis came off or what happened if that caused the crash or something else cause the skis to come off but the scariest part was watching him sliding and then the SKI’s were coming at him at about 70 miles an hour and they’re like razor blades

Spend a few days studying anatomy videos of all the muscles and tendons of the leg, hips and foot. How they all work together to perform movements we take for granted, it's remarkable. Then look at the skiers traveling at very high speeds and the massive forces their limbs can endure at when things go wrong. These can often life be long injuries that never fully heal . These skiers operate at the highest levels. They know the risks and push things to the limit, but might come to regret it later in life.
