We got lucky my freshman year with an AWESOME bassoonist who I was friends with…she cried when we first got the music and said “my bassoonist barely playing lungs won’t be able to handle this” and she rocked it
So apparently my band director thinks that our all freshman band can play this. The entire flipping thing is one big bassoon solo! And I’m the only bassoon. I’m terified
I’m a 7th grade bassoonist… and the first time I saw this piece, it gave me the biggest anxiety- but now, I absolutely LOVE this piece ; probably one of my favorites I’ve played so far!
Sorry I wasn’t that clear, I had to learn bassoon and be my band’s bassoon player because my director wanted to play this song. We had a base clarinet and some baritones. I just happened to be the person who had the easiest time picking up new instruments.
@@ejmartin5515 He would've been better off letting the euphonium play it. They don't do much in this song anyway. Unless they were a T.C euphonium and not.a B.C
This is one of the few pieces i always return to, I remember playing it in All-State Honor Band my Sophomore year and even though I don't really play anymore, I'll always remember this piece and the fun I had playing it
I love this song, my high school concert band played this song. I played baritone but we didn't have a bassoonist, so I got to play the bassoon part. By far the most fun I've had with a piece in concert band.
Coming from a French Horn player currently playing this with her band, god bless the people with the melody honestly they work so hard to make this song so beautiful props to them. Ngl the French horns are kinda unimportant in this song 😂😂 Edit: Honestly I think my part is absolutely impossible in this song, but compared to the melody people it’s child’s play! Haha
This recording is AMAZING! Far superior to the one I have with the "Teaching Music Through Performance" CD. Great stuff! One of my all-time favorite band pieces.
Played this my junior year of high school on the vibraphone, and had a great time! I kept on wanting to play with the marimba though at first, and thought that I came in the wrong time all the time 😂. On measure 119, I had a hard time joining in the entrance of the vibes with the flutes, because of all the voices playing at once in different times, thankfully I did well during the concert though 😂.
so my band teacher told our band that we might play this next year for 8th grade. which is us in a couple months :))) cant wait! practicing now for it! :DDDDD
Everyone's talking about the bassoon part, but can we take a moment to look at the french horn part 119-141 Rhythm nightmare not because of the rhythm, but because we play everything the trumpets play, but 4 counts earlier And I'm the only horn in my band yay.....
Played this in high school senior band (or maybe grade 11? I honestly don’t remember) and had so much fun playing it. We had one bassoon player, and he rocked it! Played tenor sax and it really scratches that musical performance itch. An under appreciated song for sure.
My band director almost gave us this piece, but me and the other bassoonist were in two different bands. He was in wind ensemble rather i was in symphonic band. This year there's two of us in symphonic so I'm hoping we get it this year
I played percussion 1 back in sophomore year and this is by far the most fun I've had as a percussionist of 6 years. Me and my percussion 2 counterpart had so much fun going back and forth. Our director didn't let us perform it, though, because "it wasn't practiced enough." Maybe you should have given us some practice time, then, Karen!
I wish I could play this again but the expectations for the band I’m in now are much higher so my band director probably wouldn’t let us…also the low brass would end up wanting to quit band probably

angel. 3:28 makes up for it :). it’s so iconic

This is the pain that french horns normally feel.

as a bassoonist, this gives me great anxiety, but i love playing it
my band has two bassoons and i'm one of them and if we played this we would go absolutely crazy in a good way
Lily B we were practicing this in class for an honor band and I was going crazy sightreading it
Me and my other bassoon just got this piece today they gave me 1st part 😅 I’m screwed but I’m so excited
We recently got this piece for my senior band for play. I’m the only bassoon in the senior band, so it’s my time to shine 😎

@@leetlemouse497 yuh
It's just me and one other bassoon, we just got this piece today and we are completely scared.. But I'm always up for the challenge 😃

Same. He just me (who started bassoon 5 months ago) and a senior and she’s excited but me....not so much😬
When there are no bassoons and the euphonium is forced to play it
This song killed me for that reason
when the bassoonists are so quiet the euphoniums have to play it anyways

For bassoons, this piece is a challenge.
For trombones this piece is so mind mumbling easy.
Just gotta count. Thats it. Just wait for the song to end the the trombones did a great job. So boring.
I have never heard a good performance of this song... only the recording.
I'm playing this in my middle school band class. I play oboe and it is extremely fun and the basso9ns are having a blast
middle school?? dude i’m a sophomore and the other two bassoons in my class are juniors and we’re all struggling with it

When you're a flute/piccolo that's forced to play the bassoon part and having a solo when you don't even play the instrument yet
How small is your band thatv you get the flute to play the bassoon part? No bass clarinets? Euphonium? Bari sax?

It feels so amazing to see so many bassoon players in this comment section since we are a rare breed of band kid
I played this freshman year after switching to the bassoon- probably my favorite piece I have ever played. Its so fun.

When the trumpets are so loud that the flutes and clarinets can't be heard.
